NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series owner Dave Malcomson announced today that rookie driver Chad McCumbee will pilot his MRD Motorsports No. 06 Chevrolet Silverado in an effort to capture the 2006 NCTS Rookie of the Year Award.

"I am extremely pleased to have Chad as our driver," said Malcomson. "I have known him since he was a teenager and watched him race at many of the legendary short tracks throughout the southeast".  Malcomson also added, "Chad has the ability, desire and commitment to not only be the best in the Craftsman Truck Series, but ultimately become a star in the NEXTEL Cup Series.  With Chad on board, the entire team feels that we will be greatly improved from last year. At our Daytona test, the communication between driver and crew chief was fantastic and everyone is looking forward to this season."

The 21-year-old McCumbee is coming off an extremely successful 2005 season with a 4th place finish in ARCA Re/Max Series points.  The 2005 ARCA season was another step in Chad's impressive racing career that has spanned 10 seasons, which includes two Karting Track Championships, several World Karting National event victories and back-to-back Allison Legacy Series National Championships.  McCumbee has seen another side of the racing industry with his acting role portraying Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the hit movie "3" The Dale Earnhardt Story.  Chad followed up his acting debut in 2005 as a stunt driver in Will Farrell's NASCAR comedy scheduled for release this summer.  "Being involved with the Earnhardt and Farrell movies were great opportunities for me but my main goal is to build upon my racing career and eventually make it to NEXTEL Cup" said McCumbee the Supply, NC native.

Although McCumbee will be visiting many of the tracks for the fist time, he feels he will adapt quickly with the support and experience of the entire MRD team.  "This is something you dream about, getting the opportunity to drive in one of the top NASCAR Series," McCumbee says.  When asked about the level of competition he will face in the upcoming season McCumbee added, "there are a lot of big name drivers and really well funded teams in the Truck Series.  I am looking forward to the challenge of racing veteran drivers like Ted Musgrave, Mike Skinner, Todd Bodine and Bobby Hamilton."

Malcomson is looking to secure primary sponsorship for the full 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season. It is a task that he hopes will be aided by his addition of McCumbee and their pursuit of the 2006 Raybestos Rookie of the Year Award.  Sponsorship information can be obtained at the teams website http://www.teammrd.com.
