David Starr and his No. 75 Spears Chevrolet Silverado team will go their separate ways in 2006. Veteran NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver David Starr, concluding his fourth season with Spears, finished 7th in the 2005 NCTS Championship points standings.
Starr has competed in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series since 1998 with 140 starts to his credit. Starr ran the last four years in one of the longest running and most coveted rides in the series; the No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Chevrolet owned by West coast racers Wayne and Connie Spears. Starr scored all three of his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victories in the No. 75 Chevrolet.
"I can't thank everyone enough at Spears for giving me four awesome years in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series," said Starr "Wayne and Connie Spears gave me my first competitive full-time ride in NASCAR. We got some wins and I am grateful for the opportunity to drive for such a dedicated race team." Starr continued, "We had four great years; we talked and agreed to look at other options. I have several opportunities to race in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series next year," commented Starr "I'm looking forward to running for the 2006 Championship."
The California-based, Wayne and Connie Spears-owned team has been in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series since the inaugural race. Spears, whose drivers have included Kevin Harvick, hired Starr for the 2002 campaign, and Starr responded by handing the team its first victory. He won back-to-back Bud Poles and finished fifth in the Championship. Injuries suffered in a testing accident sidelined Starr for four races in 2003. Starr would claim two more victories for Spears in 2004 and finish sixth in the Championship points standings that season.
