Toyota Race Notes: Phoenix
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

  • This is Toyota's second season, and 49th race, in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS).
  • A Toyota has captured the checkered flag 12 times in 48 NCTS races since the Tundra's debut in the Craftsman Truck Series at the beginning of 2004.
  • This year, Toyota has eight NCTS wins.
  • Todd Bodine's win tonight at Phoenix is his second straight NCTS win.
  • Todd Bodine's NCTS win last Friday night in Texas (Nov. 4) was the most recent win by a Toyota.
  • This year, Bodine has four NCTS wins and he has six career NCTS victories. All six of his wins have come in the No. 30 Germain Racing Tundra.  Bodine's wins this season -- in addition to tonight's win at Phoenix, came at Texas, Las Vegas (Sept. 24) and Kansas (July 2).
  • Along with Todd Bodine, three other Tundra drivers have registered wins this season.  Toyota drivers Mike Skinner (Richmond and Bristol), David Reutimann (Nashville) and Brandon Whitt (Memphis) have all crossed the finish line first in Tundras this year.
  • A Toyota Tundra has started on the pole 12 times this season.  Mike Skinner has registered seven pole positions, at Texas, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Nashville, Texas, Charlotte and California.  Other Tundra drivers who have started on the pole are Bill Lester (Kentucky and Kansas), Brandon Whitt (Phoenix and Memphis) and David Reutimann (Bristol).

TODD BODINE, No. 30 Germain Motor Company Tundra
"Our Tundra was just incredible.  The guys did a great job in the pits getting us out first.  We had to have that 'clean' air, and once we got out front I knew it was going to be good.  I was trying not to spin the tires on the restarts because I knew that Ron (Hornaday, Jr.) is tough on them (restarts). That was just good Craftsman Truck Series racing.  It was fun tonight.  It's a great feeling to come out and get two wins in a row.  I feel like with this team we can win every week."

"This group's incredible.  They felt bad on the one pit stop when Johnny (Benson) got out in front of me after the restart.  Then they made up for it on the last stop, when we beat everyone out and got out in front.  With clean air on this Toyota Tundra they weren't going to stop us.  I am so proud to be part of this group.  I work for these guys, they don't work for me.  Mike Hillman, Sr. (team manager) and Mike Hillman, Jr. (crew chief) do a great job and tonight they made all the right calls again.  This is a great team."

"It feels awesome.  I have a great race team.  Everyone at Toyota and TRD give us everything we need to do this on a weekly basis, and it's up to us to go out and do it.  We've got the team to do it.  We're getting great trucks and the guys are giving me great pit stops -- we've got the whole package and it's nice we can go out and get the job done."

"We knew we had a good truck after practice yesterday.  It was a matter of staying out of trouble and biding our time like we did last week -- and just be there at the end to put ourselves in the right position to win -- and that's what we did."

JOHNNY BENSON, No. 23 Toyota Certified Used Vehicles
"Tonight's run was good.  We had a good run most of the night, and we just needed to be a little better.  All in all everything went great.  We were hoping on that last stop that we would be able to come out in the lead and have that good, clean air that Todd (Bodine) ended up having.  It was a good run for us -- we qualified second and run third.  The truck is in one piece.  It's a brand, new truck and this is the first time we raced it.  I'm real happy that we've come out of here in good shape."

DAVID REUTIMANN, No. 17 NTN Bearings Tundra
"We weren't the best truck by any means.  We qualified really, really bad -- the second worst effort I've ever had in qualifying -- which got us back there at the start.  We had a little problem on the pits stop -- with the jack.  So, the positions we gained -- we kind of lost more back there.  We adjusted all race and made it better.  We needed green flag laps to show how good we were, and there wasn't a whole lot of that at the end.  I'm pleased though.  The guys did a good job.  This place is tough to pass on, and we started 27th and ended up seventh."
