Bobby Hamilton Makes History at Phoenix Fielding Two Female Drivers
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series owner Bobby Hamilton will make NASCAR history at Phoenix International Raceway during the November 11 Chevy Silverado 150.  Hamilton will field entries for Deborah Renshaw (under his umbrella at BHR2) and Erin Crocker (driving the No. 4 Dodge), becoming the first owner in NASCAR history to field entries driven by TWO female drivers in the same race.

What and Accomplishment: "That is a pretty big deal and it's a neat statistic actually because I was one of the originators of the diversity program.  I had Willie to start off with and Bill Lester and we worked real close with NASCAR on that.  I feel like I've been a part of it the whole time.  I just thought it was somebody else's turn for a while, then Deborah come along.  She's local [from the Nashville, Tenn., area] and it's worked out real well and she's been a blast to work with. We tested Erin the other day at Nashville and she just told them what she wanted to do with the truck.  She is a sharp cookie and knows exactly what she's doing and I think Ray wants to give her some more seat time to teach her how to race a little better.  She's going to be pretty good."

Evaluate Your Season: "Our season has been a little off, but I knew it would be.  We won the championship last year and we were a very good race team.  We're still a very good race team but we knew that we were getting caught up with last year, so we had to go out on a limb this year as a building year.  We needed to try to upgrade our stuff and we stumbled on some good things and hurt ourselves on some others.  The engineers and crew chiefs kept their eye on it and said they could always go back and say, 'No that hurt us the next two races and let's do this.'  It's been somewhat of an R&D season for us but it's going to have us in great alignment for next year."

Notes:

  • Hamilton will be racing Beavis in Phoenix.  This is the third time that Hamilton has raced this particular truck this year.
  • Timothy Peters has raced this same truck several times this season.
  • The Tennessee native finished seventh after passing three wide in one of the turns last year at Phoenix International Raceway.  He qualified his Dodge in the eighth spot.
