Bobby Hamilton, Truck Owner, No. 4 Bailey's Dodge:
You must be proud of this accomplishment. "You know, it's weird but I never thought of it . That is a pretty big deal and it's a neat statistic actually because I was one of the originators of the diversity program. I had Willie to start off with and Bill Lester and we worked real close with NASCAR on that. I feel like I've been a part of it the whole time. I just thought it was somebody else's turn for a while then Deborah come along. She's local [from the Nashville, Tenn., area] and it's worked out real well and she's been a blast to work with. We tested Erin the other day at Nashville and she just told them what she wanted to do with the truck. She is a sharp cookie and knows exactly what she's doing and I think Ray wants to give her some more seat time to teach her how to race a little better. She's going to be pretty good."
How has good or bad has this season been for Bobby Hamilton? "It's been a little off but I knew it would be. We won the championship last year and we were a very good race team. We're still a very good race team but we knew that we were getting caught up with so we had to go out on a limb this year as a building year again to try to upgrade our stuff and we stumbled on some stuff and hurt ourselves on some stuff. The engineers and crew chiefs kept their eye on it and said they could always go back and say 'No that hurt us the next two races and let's do this.' It's been somewhat of an R&D season for us but it's going to have us in great alignment for next year."
Is everything set for Timothy Peters for next year? "Yes. I don't know about the sponsor yet. I don't have anything signed but I have a verbal commitment from him and he has one for me that he'll be with us next year."
It appears that you keep getting young talented drivers at BHR. "I'm getting old . Timothy's a very good fit. I love the kid to death. Forget about the racing end of it, he's a very good fit for all the people around there and he gets along with every single person there. He's doesn't have to put the effort out. He's one of those guys that does that and he's very appreciative of the opportunity and we're very appreciative of the effort that he puts out. He's got a work ethic that you just don't see in a kid these days. It's very abnormal to see it. I appreciate that very much in him so I'm proud to have him a part of it."
Is there pressure on this team to win? "I don't do that. We won the biggest race of the season and turned right around and won our second race. Obviously, we won four last year and we've not done that this year but there's two things. We got off a little bit because we're trying to get better and the competition has stepped up another 18 percent or so if you look at the numbers. So that means us getting behind, plus the competition is very easy to be in that position but we're still probably one of the most consistent race teams out there. We should not be fourth or fifth in points right now and still have a mathematical chance of winning the thing if worse things could happen to Ted and Dennis. I don't wish that on nobody. I'd love to see Ted win it. But we're still in the middle of it."
