"This is just incredible. We struggled a little bit at the beginning of the race because my truck was really, really loose -- it was hard to drive. But, Mike Hillman Sr. (team manager) and Mike Hillman Jr. (crew chief) made some great calls getting the truck tightened up with the right adjustments. At the end (of the race), I was running wide open all the way around the track. I was just lifting a little getting into (Turn) Three, but the truck was so good -- even if those other guys came in for tires, I wasn't coming. How can you go much faster than wide open? Our truck was that good. As it played out, they stayed out and Mike (Skinner) got racing. I don't know who it was with Mike behind me, but they got racing hard and gave me a big break. It was great. Everyone at Toyota and TRD has done a great job, and I can't thank them enough."
How about the restarts? "It's about not spinning the tires and getting good forward bite on the restarts. It's so easy to spin the tires when they're hot and slick. And, the guy in second has such a disadvantage because as soon as the guy in first goes, he wants to go -- and just spins the tires. That's what happened to Mike (Skinner). It's just one of those deals."
What about moving into third-place in the points? "It's very important for everyone at Germain Racing and Toyota and TRD. If we would have been together since the beginning of the year -- we'd be right there with Dennis and Ted battling for the points lead. We're in a battle with Ron Hornaday, Jr. for third-place, and we're not worried about it because if you're not in first, you're just the second or third loser. That's how we look at it. We're going for third in the points. We're going to keep on digging, keep our heads down and elbows up."
NOTE: Bodine ran the first ten races of the 2005 season with the Fiddle Back Racing team in a Toyota. He rejoined Germain Racing at the Milwaukee NCTS race (June 24).
