Todd Kluever, No. 50 World Financial Group Ford:
Are you still sore from the crash at Atlanta? "Everything is good. I had a sprained right ankle and obviously a sore neck the next morning, but that's it. It's a testament to my guys and what they do in the shop to build those trucks and keep them safe. When we got home and took a closer look, that thing was absolutely destroyed. It came me safe and did its job. Those guys do good work there in the shop. It's a new week now."
Did you have any problems in the truck during practice this afternoon? "No. This is my old trusty-truck, my favorite truck. It was good to get back in it. We were just a little off but I've come to learn over the last couple of weeks that as long as I'm patient and telling my guys what it needs, Mike Beam and Hal Ralston, and all the guys will get it figured out. And they sure did. Our World Financial Group Ford is getting better and better every time I drive it. I think we'll have a good race truck."
You have excelled on the 1.5 mile tracks this season. "We've done really well at the places that I've never seen and never tested at, and the mile and a half stuff and the short tracks, too. I'm really excited about this place. I'm really excited about going to Phoenix. That's a place that I've never driven on, never tested or anything. I've got a truck with a new body; one of my main workhorses through the summer and it's a really good truck so I'm excited about that. And then we get to go to Homestead which is another fast, big track like this. I'm really excited because we have run good on these this year. At the beginning of the year I struggled at places like this but I've got to give these guys credit for giving me the right setups in these trucks. The mile-and-a-halfs have been one of our better things."
Recently, your future at Roush Racing has been mapped out. Does that make it challenging for you to focus on the Truck Series? "When that was first all coming out, yeah, I thought a lot about it and that was during that three weeks off that we had. It was probably good I had those three weeks off at that time. That's every thing that I had ever dreamed of my whole life and of course it's the biggest news of my life. The fortunate part for me is that I still want to win races and that's in the future and that's coming and there's nothing I can do to speed it up so I might as well win as many races as I can until then. These guys have been so good and we've been so consistent over the last nine or 10 races since we made the crew switch. Compared to the 30 truck, I think they've been the best truck the second half this season consistently and we've probably been the second or third best truck consistently the second half of the season. I'm really excited every time we come to the racetrack. Every time we come here I feel like we have a shot to win and generally we do or we can run top-five most of the time or top-10. It's exciting to come and right now I'm worried about winning a truck race before my truck career is over and next year I'll be worried about winning Busch races and in '07 Cup races. That's the future and I can't do anything to speed it up. I want to win a truck race before I leave."
Do you just need a little racing luck to win? "We just haven't had any. IRP was ours to win, door-to-door with Dennis with eight laps to go and going by him for the lead and the caution comes out at the wrong time. We were running second at Memphis and had a real good shot to win there and had to pit under green. A lot of bad stuff, stupid stuff like that has happened to us this year. I don't think anybody in the garage area will tell you that we haven't been close to winning or capable of winning. It's not going to be a fluke when we do it. We'll get it all to hit on every cylinder one of these weekends. I've come to the realization we're going to win. It's not that we can't win. We can win. When we win, we win and if it happens, it happens and if it don't, it don't. It's not a lack of effort and it's not a lack of resources. We're not missing anything. We just need for everything to fit together."
