Todd Kluever, No. 50 World Financial Group Ford: "I thought we could be better than that. I'm just not very good here and it frustrates me. I feel bad for my guys. They're working hard and I think the truck is pretty decent. It's just one of those places that I struggle at. It is what it is and I'll have to do what I can but I thought the lap was a little bit better than that. It doesn't look like that's too bad right now. I qualified awful here in the spring and maybe we'll step up a little bit from that. I think we'll race well. I have a hard time running this place by myself. They preach to you about being smooth and hitting your marks and not overshooting anything and not getting real aggressive to go faster on this place. I think I get too mellow. It's hard to figure this place out."

Have you been to a track like Martinsville before? "No. Back home where I grew up racing we don't have a lot of real flat places like this and if we do they're bigger and rounder and not so narrow. I grew up on racetracks where it reward you for driving it in the corner real deep and picking up the gas real early and real aggressively and this is definitely not one of those places so I struggle here. We'll keep going here and eventually maybe I'll figure it out."

If you try to be too aggressive you might burn up your brakes. "With the brakes that we have today, and our race being 200 laps, I don't think you can burn them out of a truck. You'd have to really, really be working it hard. When you get to the NEXTEL Cup Series and stuff that will probably be a factor, but here it's not so much of an issue."

Do you just need more laps here? "I think it's an experience deal. This is one of those places where I look at my fellow Roush guys and they all struggle here. I don't know if this is one place that you ever figure out. I just haven't figured it out yet."

Timothy Peters in The No. 4 Bailey's Dodge was the Top Raybestos Rookie Qualifier at Martinsville
Notes:
Peters will start eighth, his third top-10 start in 14 races this season. "We ended up eighth and our Bailey's Dodge is pretty respectable as far as race run conditions. I wish it could have been a little bit better, being my hometown, because I knew we had just a little bit better truck than that. Everybody on the crew did an awesome job, working with testing here and in practice this morning. We're just going to try to keep all the fenders on it and the nose on it and hopefully by the end of the day maybe we can get our second victory here in our Bailey's Dodge."

Did the late draw help you? "I really don't know. It looked like when Setzer went out, he was the first one to go, and it really didn't bother him. I think we had a good truck if we went first or last; that's how much confidence I had in the truck. We've got a good race piece. We ran some respectable times on some real old tires this morning. When the green flag drops I'm looking to go to the front."

Did you focus a lot on race runs during practice? "Most of the morning we did and then later on in the afternoon we tried to make two qualifying runs and we got one in but the other we wasn't able to get a hold of. I'm really pleased the second time here at Martinsville. I love what Clay Campbell and Mike Smith do here at this track. Hopefully we can get our Bailey's Dodge up front tomorrow. It would be special to run well here. It means a lot to me."

Peters Press Conference

"Our Bailey's Dodge was decent today in practice as well as qualifying. I slipped a little bit coming off four trying to get all I could to see if I could knock Rick off the pole but he definitely laid down a good lap. What an awesome feeling it is to come back after winning the big Bailey's late model race two weeks ago and what a feeling to be in victory lane here at Martinsville. It's an honor for the opportunity that Bailey's and Bobby Hamilton Racing have given me this year in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. I love Martinsville. It's home for me, my hometown track. I get to see a lot of my family and friends here so to come back in my second go-round from where I made my debut in the spring to qualify eighth is awesome. Hopefully we can move forward tomorrow."

You've won three NASCAR weekly series championships in a row. How do you feel about your chances here on Saturday? "That'd be awesome, especially here at Martinsville in front of the hometown crowd. This place is special to me. The late model deal kind of worked out good. Since we started with Bailey's in 2002 we finished fourth, third, second and first. Maybe the second go-around here at Martinsville will be a lot better in the Craftsman Truck Series. We have a lot of momentum for myself as well as the team, especially after we tested a couple of weeks ago and this morning the way we ran. I'm really happy to qualify eighth and I'd like to say thanks to Bailey's for giving me the opportunity and Bobby Hamilton."

How special was it to win the clock at Martinsville? "It was cool. I moved to Tennessee to be closer to the shop and go there every day to help the guys out. Bobby's big clock is setting there and it kind of raises the hair on the back of my neck to see that clock. It's not with me in Tennessee. My mom picked out a nice little place over in the corner for it. It's pretty special."

Do you drive the truck the same as a late model? "I had an opportunity to test a Cup car this year. The horsepower is definitely different. There are a lot of things that are a little bit different from a car to a truck that I did notice. Congratulations to Denny Hamlin. We were running door handle to door handle here last year and now he's getting top-10s in the Cup series. There is a little bit of difference between the truck and the Cup car, but they're both pretty fast."

Did you race a little bit conservatively here in your debut in the spring? Will you be more aggressive this time around? "We definitely had to be conservative in the spring so I could get cleared to go to a mile track because that was the next one to go to, to get my speedway status up. I've definitely learned a lot trying to be careful. There's five races left and I'm scheduled to run three. I won't get too aggressive unless I have to but I still want to gain the respect of these guys. I want to let them know that even though I have that Raybestos Rookie stripe on the back that they can race with me week in and week out."

How will racing here a few weeks ago help you? "As far as being on the racetrack and learning what to do during the race, that's definitely helped me out with the truck playing around a little bit. As far as the feel wise, that's about it. Nothing can change over from the late model to the truck."

Your truck has a new paint scheme. "Our Bailey's Dodge is looking real good. They flip-flopped the colors on us to run here, Atlanta, and Homestead. What a way to debut that paint scheme, to qualify in the top-10. Hopefully we can finish in the top-10 tomorrow."
