| Hornaday and WQDR-FM DJ Win "TNT Chevy Make Way for My Segway Challenge"
09-09-2005 | TruckSeries.com Report
Team Wins Inaugural Two-Wheel Segway Race in Richmond Ron Hornaday, driver of the No. 6 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet Silverado, and Marty the One Man Party, radio DJ for WQDR-FM in Raleigh, N.C., won today's "TNT Chevy Make Way for My Segway Challenge" at Richmond International Raceway. The Chevy NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver and radio DJ were one of seven teams competing in the first annual event where participants race Segways (motorized human transporters) along an obstacle course of Chevy HHRs and tires. "That was unbelievable," said Hornaday. "It was pretty cool to do something fun like this and my Segway handled real good through the corners. It's really exciting to be the first winner of this brand new event. "This was a great team effort. If it wasn't for my partner (Marty the One Man Party), we couldn't have done it." Hornaday and Marty the One Man Party beat out the team of Brian Vickers, driver of the No. 25 GMAC/ditech.com Monte Carlo, and Marc Apple, radio announcer for WKLS-FM in Atlanta during the final heat of competition. Following the event, each of the 14 NASCAR driver and radio DJ participants autographed a Segway that will be donated to the Victory Junction Gang Camp, an official NASCAR charity. "I was glad to see the Chevy drivers come out to compete and help donate this Segway to the Victory Junction Gang Camp," said Hornaday. "We had a great time and the Camp is a great cause." Highlights of today's "TNT Chevy Make Way for My Segway Challenge" will be broadcast on TNT prior to the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 on Saturday evening. NASCAR coverage on TNT will kick-off tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET with the Bank of America Countdown to Green pre-race show followed by the race beginning at 7:30 p.m.
