Richmond Sells Out 28th Straight NASCAR Nextel Cup Race

While there is time left for hopeful NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers looking to break into the top ten before the "Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup," time has run out on fans who need seats for the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway.

Track President Doug Fritz announced today that all 107,097 seats will once again be filled for the Chevy Rock & Roll 400, set for Saturday, September 10 "under the lights."  The race marks the final opportunity for drivers to gain a spot in the second "Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup."  Last year, Jeremy Mayfield made history when he won at Richmond and earned a berth in "The Chase."  The track's sellout streak of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events is now at 28, spanning 14 years.  Nearly 2.5 million fans from all 50 states and dozens of foreign countries have attended NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series events at Richmond International Raceway during that time.

In addition to hosting the final race that will set the field for the second "Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup," the entire race weekend will again have a Rock & Roll theme, with artists like legendary rockers KISS, Green Day, Three Doors Down, Nickelback, Gretchen Wilson and Big & Rich appearing on specially designed Chevy racecars.  Chevrolet and track officials will also announce in the coming weeks a Rock & Roll concert that will be part of race weekend.

"Last year's Chevy Rock & Roll 400 proved to be one of the most memorable and dramatic races ever-not only in Richmond, but in NASCAR's long history," said Fritz.  "We are honored to hold such a prestigious spot on the schedule and to once again have our great partners at Chevrolet bring back the popular Rock & Roll theme to Richmond.  Drivers and fans agree that Richmond International Raceway is the best track to decide who is in and who is out for the 'Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup.'  Just like 2004, the upcoming weekend will be remembered by fans for a long, long time."

Although tickets for the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 are no longer available, fans still have the opportunity to catch the always-exciting NASCAR Busch Series Emerson Radio 250, set for Friday, September 9 at "America's Premier Short Track."  Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Greg Biffle, Dale Jarrett, Matt Kenseth, Jamie McMurray, Bobby Labonte and Johnny Sauter are among the list of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series regulars who plan to enter the Emerson Radio 250.  Those drivers will have their hands full with NASCAR Busch Series contenders Martin Truex Jr., David Green, Reed Sorenson, Clint Bowyer and double-duty driver Carl Edwards, along with Virginia natives Stacey Compton, Jon Wood, Denny Hamlin and Ashton Lewis.

Fans won't want to miss the doubleheader Thursday, September 8 at Richmond International Raceway.  First, the Crown Royal IROC Series takes to the track for the third of its four races this season.  Mark Martin, Kurt Busch and Kenseth are just three of the 12 drivers competing for the $1,000,000 series prize. The night continues with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series 200.  Stewart, Harvick and Sauter are preparing to work triple-duty, as they plan to run trucks, in addition to their NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and NASCAR Busch Series rides.  Will Stewart be able to take his third NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series checkered flag at Richmond International Raceway, or will the stiff competition from series regulars Dennis Setzer, Ted Musgrave, Bobby Hamilton and Ron Hornaday prove to be the best on the track?

Tickets are on sale now for the action-packed Crown Royal IROC Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series 200 doubleheader on Thursday, September 8. All seats are general admission and are only $30.  Tickets for the thrilling NASCAR Busch Series Emerson Radio 250, which includes FasMart Pole Qualifying for the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 on Friday, September 9 are also available.  Reserved seats are just $45 and general admission seating is $35.  Children 12 and under are admitted free in general admission seating with a ticketed adult Thursday and Friday nights. Tickets are available online at www.rir.com or by calling 1-866-455-RACE (7223).
