South Boston Speedway to Host Craftsman Night at the Races

The holiday fireworks have been shot. The grills have cooled from family cookouts. It's time for some new summer excitement and South Boston Speedway has the answer.

After a weekend off, America's Hometown Track will return to action Saturday, July 9, with the running of the Craftsman Night at the Races.

The first of five events slated as part of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series program Saturday night will roll off turn four to receive the green flag at 7 p.m.

The Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division will highlight the Craftsman Night at the Races program. The highly competitive division recently saw six different drivers pull into Victory Lane over a six-race stretch.

Danville, Va. driver Peyton Sellers motored to a victory on June 25, marking his sixth triumph of the season at South Boston. In the process, Sellers also moved back atop the track's championship point standings and the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division I standings.

Sellers sits 26 points ahead of Drew Herring in the Late Model standings. Jonathon Cash and Ryan Rhodes are deadlocked in third place, while Owen Miller sits in the fifth spot, eight points behind the third-place tie.

The Limited Sportsman Division drivers will also be in action on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval Saturday night. Competitors in the division will be trying to snap a four-race win streak by Justin Snow. A $500 bounty will be placed on Snow heading into Saturday's race.

Despite winning four races in a row, Snow is just two points ahead of Jonathan Bailey in the battle for the division championship. Tommy Peregoy, Brian Pembleton and Charles Barnes round out the top five contenders in the Limited Sportsman title chase.

When the Virginia Army National Guard Pure Stock Division drivers hit the asphalt Saturday, Chuck Watkins will carry a 10-point edge in the point standings with him. Lee Anderson sits second in the standings, but is only four points ahead of third-place Nick Igdalsky. Joey Throckmorton is fourth in the title chase, only two points behind Igdalsky.

Rounding out the Craftsman Night at the Races program will be events for the Grand Sportsman Division and the touring Legendary Flathead Series.

Pit gates will open Saturday at 1 p.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 2:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get the green flag at 5 p.m. as well.

Adult admission for the race will be $8 up to 6:30 p.m. and $10 after that. Youth, ages 10-15, will be admitted for $5 and children under the age of 10 will be admitted free with a paid adult.
