Dennis Setzer maintained his position a top the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point standings after bringing the No. 46 Chevrolet Z71 Silverado to the checkered flag in 11th position in the O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway.
Setzer and the Morgan Dollar Motorsports team, coming off consecutive victories at Michigan and Milwaukee, kept their focus and team determination working for them all day at the 1.5-mile oval just west of Kansas City, Kansas.
Starting in 12th position, on the outside of row six, Setzer was content to fall in line at the start of the race. He reported he was loose so during the first pit stop under caution on laps 30-33, the crew made adjustments to tighten up the truck.
Setzer slowly worked his way to the top-10 by lap 40 of the scheduled 167-lap race but continued to report he was loose and needed more side grip in the No. 46 Chevrolet Silverado. The Eric Phillips led crew made further adjustments during the next pit stop during the lap 68-73 caution period.
Setzer had a solid top-10 run going until late in the race, the Newton, NC native was lined up behind Ron Hornaday's No. 6 Silverado for a restart. Hornaday's truck failed to accelerate trapping Setzer behind him and dropping him back in the order, out of the top-ten.
Setzer was able to regain several positions landing back in the top-10 but the handling of his Silverado continued to be an issue. Setzer, fighting a loose truck without the grip he needed to pass, survived three more cautions flew forcing the race to end under green-white-checkered conditions on lap 170 to settle for 11th in the finishing order.
"We were pretty fast but the Chevrolet Z71 Silverado was just a little too loose all day," said Setzer. "Eric (Phillips, crew chief) made some changes early in the race but we thought maybe as the race went on, we would tighten up so much but we didn't Thought we could get a solid top-10 today but on one of those late restarts, Ron Hornaday was right in front of me and for some reason he couldn't go so we both backed up quite a few spots. With more cautions and then the red, we just couldn't get through the corners well enough to make up any ground. My guys had excellent pit stops as usual so they gave me good track position all day, we just missed it a tick and in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, you just can't be off because the competition is so strong. We will head for Kentucky and try and get us one there. We did ok points wise so we are still on the right track."
Setzer currently holds a 38-point advantage over second place in the standings, defending series champion Bobby Hamilton.
