Skinner Hosting 11th Year of Race Week Celebrity Golf

Its pretty normal for NASCAR driver Mike Skinner to challenging his fellow competitors on the race track every weekend, but this time the challenge is on a different course - the golf course!

Race Week Celebrity Golf will host its 11th annual charity tournament on June 29th at LPGA in Daytona Beach, Florida. This will mark Skinner's third year hosting the event. In 2004 the tournament raised $118,000 for a local teenage boy with cancer and gave additional proceeds to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital.

This year the dollars raised will again benefit The Victory Junction Gang Camp and the brand new 400,000 square-foot hospital dedicated to women's and babies services that has been named the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies.  The hospital was named after Mr. Palmer's late-wife Winnie and will be located across the street from the existing Arnold Palmer Hospital. When the Winnie Palmer Hospital opens the current Arnold Palmer Hospital will remain open and become a dedicated children's hospital.

Skinner was excited to give the money last year to a local friend suffering from a form of bone cancer and, he is equally excited to donate this year's proceeds to The Victory Junction Gang Camp after his wife Angela visited the facility in May.

"Angela came home after attending the camp's first year birthday party and was ecstatic about raising money and volunteering for the camp in the future. She could not believe the depth and heart that Patty Petty put into the children's camp geared toward children with life threatening illnesses. After I saw the excitement in her eyes, I knew we were raising money for the right cause."

This year Skinner decided to add a new twist to the celebrities attending - each NASCAR star that plays in his tournament will get to choose a partner and then battle the other celebrities playing in a 2-man scramble. This enables the tournament players to have their game and the celebrities to have their own challenge. "We all know that NASCAR drivers are a little competitive. I think a few are even rounding up some professional golfers!" claims Skinner.  The winning celebrity team will get $10,000 toward their favorite charity. NASCAR celebrities attending are as follows: Dale Jarett, Kurt Busch, Tony Stewart, Benny Parsons, Kevin LePage, Brett and Geoffry Bodine and Allen Bestwick.  Skinner will also have good friend and pro-wrestling/feature film star Bill Goldberg as his special celebrity guest.

The tournament will begin with registration at 7:30am on Wednesday, June 29. Tee off will begin at 8:30am with a luncheon and live auction to follow. Celebrities can be interviewed from 7:30-8:15am.

This year's tournament will be sponsored by Walgreens and Walgreens Home Care. Mike Skinner was very grateful for their involvement. "Walgreens came in to save the day this year for our golf event with a very generous donation. My friend Tony Stewart and his Tony Stewart Foundation also gave the organization a helpful amount to make this year's tournament a large success. The first year of Race Week Celebrity Golf raised $5,000, ten years later these girls are giving over $100,000 to well deserving charities annually. So thank you Walgreens for making sure this tradition continued in 2005! I know our friends at Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital and Kyle and Patty Petty will feel the same way when we write them a well deserved check."
