The Kansas City area's official proposal for hosting the NASCAR Hall of Fame departed from Kansas Speedway at approximately 1 p.m. today.  Leaders of the public-private partnership organizing the bid were on hand as a thinkKC branded YellowRoadway truck rolled out of the Speedway en route to NASCAR offices in Charlotte, N.C.

"Kansas City is the perfect place for the NASCAR Hall of Fame," said Mayor Joe Reardon of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas. "The Hall of Fame will build on the continuing success of the Kansas Speedway and will be a welcome addition to the booming Village West shopping and entertainment district at Interstate 70 and Interstate 435."

The Greater Kansas City area is one of five cities vying for the $100 million plus NASCAR Hall of Fame. Proposals from all bidding cities are due May 31.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame at Kansas City committee consists of a number of regional and national partners who have put in hundreds of hours of work to build a strong case for Kansas City to win the project. These partners include Kansas Speedway; Kansas City Area Development Council; State of Kansas; Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas; Kansas City Board of Public Utilities; Wyandotte Development, Inc.; Greater Kansas City Sports Commission; Zimmer Real Estate Services, Inc.; VML, Inc.; HOK Sport + Venue + Event; J.E. Dunn Construction; Turner Construction; PTK; DMCD, Inc.; Johnson County Partnership; Stifel, Nicolaus & Company; Stinson
Morrison Hecker LLP; Gilmore & Bell; Grant Thornton LLP; Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce; and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

"As NASCAR broadens its reach into a North American sport, Kansas City's central location will become a logical place for showcasing the past, present and future of one of the continent's most popular past times," said Bob Marcusse, president and CEO of the Kansas City Area Development Council.

After NASCAR officials review proposals, cities will then be selected for detailed tours. Kansas Speedway President Jeff Boerger says that's when Greater Kansas City would really stand out from the competition.

"Besides the world-class team we have putting this together, Kansas City has the distinction of being at the Crossroads of America," Boerger said. "I can't think of a better place than Kansas City to build a monument to a sport that is truly an American institution than right here in the middle of the country."
