| Roush Racing and Discovery Channel Partner to Find Next Premier Driver
05-25-2005 | TruckSeries.com Report
Calling all adrenaline junkies and speed demons - Roush Racing is teaming up with Discovery Channel to find a driver to join their team, to star in an energy-jammed reality show, and ultimately to compete for the 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship. Discovery Channel will bring the excitement, drama, and rush of this exclusive search for NASCAR's next superstar in a new series premiering this fall. Twenty-five young racers, sharing one dream, will compete on and off the track for one of the most sought after jobs in racing - a fully sponsored ride with legendary racer and team owner Jack Roush. Discovery Channel will go behind-the-scenes of the driver selection process as the candidates are put through a barrage of tests - challenging their physical and mental strengths, not to mention evaluating their media savvy and general fan appeal. Anyone who thinks they've got what it takes to drive with the likes of Kurt Busch, Mark Martin and Greg Biffle is encouraged to submit their applications immediately online at: www.roushracing.com; e-mail to roushride@roushracing.com; or mail to Roush Ride, 4600 Roush Place, Concord, N.C. 28027, Attention Rory Connellan. Online applications are preferred. Applications will be accepted through June 15, 2005. For contestant inquiries, contact Rory Connellan at 704-720-4600. "We found Kurt Busch through a similar program in 1999," said Jack Roush. "He was so exceptional we moved him to NEXTEL Cup in only one year. He has clearly demonstrated he has what it takes to be a champion. Todd Kluever was given a long-term contract last year through this program, and we plan on finding that next talented driver who will fit into the Roush Racing winning tradition." Busch, a 12-time Nextel Cup Series winner said, "This is a great opportunity for a talented up and coming competitor. It promises to be a grueling and intense competition of the next elite athletes and Discovery Channel will be there to document it all. From the closed-door discussions among Jack, his crew chiefs and drivers about on-track abilities, to business meetings about marketing and sponsorship opportunities - racing fans will be welcomed to join the process as Roush Racing searches for the next racing legend." "We're excited about this great opportunity to get behind the wheel of this program and show the world the selection process for this world-renowned racing team," said Phil Fairclough, Acting General Manager & Senior Vice President of Programming for Discovery Channel. "As popular as NASCAR is - no one has taken the time to showcase this type of search and each episode promises viewers one adrenaline rush to the next." "Our unique format captures the best elements from all the aspirational reality shows I've seen* except ours is totally genuine, totally us, conceived to find Roush a champion and not just conceived for TV," said Geoff Smith, President of Roush Racing.
