Kevin Harvick Goes for Three Consecutive NASCAR Major Series Wins

Chevrolet Team Silverado driver Ron Hornaday heads to the 0.526-mile short track in Martinsville, Virginia with the momentum of his exciting victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway.  Hornaday beat Bobby Labonte by a mere eight thousandths of a second in the third closest finish in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series to take his No. 6 GM Goodwrench Silverado to victory lane for the first time in 2005. To win back-to-back races, Hornaday faces the task of not only beating his fellow Team Silverado drivers and the regular NCTS competitors, but his boss, Kevin Harvick.

The April 9, 2005 Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway is the fourth race of the season for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

Labonte will again join drivers, Dennis Setzer, Jack Sprague, David Starr and Hornaday as a member of Chevrolet Team Silverado as the driver of the No. 47 Chevrolet All Star Silverado.  It will be Labonte's second NCTS of 2005 and his second NCTS race at Martinsville Speedway. He finished third behind Setzer in the October 2004 event.

In the Spring 2004 Martinsville event, Sprague won the pole and Team Silverado drivers captured four of the top-ten finishing positions with Setzer and Sprague, finishing second and third respectively.

The Martinsville Speedway is unique to other short tracks on the circuit in that it has long straights and very tight corners.  Of the many descriptions given to the track by drivers over the years, visualizing a paper clip seems to be the most accurate.

"Martinsville offers its own unique set of challenges," said Dayne Pierantoni, program manager for Chevrolet Team Silverado in the NCTS.  "The ability to manage tires and brakes are two of the key components to success at Martinsville.  During our recent testing there, these were the primary focus areas and I feel like our Team Silverado drivers will have what they need this weekend.

"Coming off the great win and second place we had at Atlanta gives everyone involved in our Chevrolet Silverado program great momentum and enthusiasm as we head to Martinsville. Being a short track with such tight corners, there is always the unexpected but we have done our homework and are well prepared going in to the weekend so if we have the appropriate racing luck, we will have another great weekend for Silverado."

The GM Team:
Setzer, No. 46 Chevrolet Silverado driver, will again team with 2000 NASCAR Cup champion Labonte for the Martinsville event.   Labonte will make his second appearance as the driver for the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado All Star Program in the No. 47 Silverado with country music star trio Trick Pony on the hood and Rodeway Inns and Econo Lodge on the rear quarter panels. In 2004, Setzer qualified 10th and finished second in the Martinsville spring race on the way to his second consecutive runner-up season-ending points finish.

Sprague will once again be driving his No. 16 Chevy Trucks Silverado with a cast and protective boot over the injured heel he suffered just prior to the California race.  After two days of testing with the boot, the three-time NCTS champion is ready to improve his third place finish from last year.

Hornaday, driver of the No. 6 GM Goodwrench Silverado, hasn't raced a truck at Martinsville Speedway since April, 1999 when he started sixth and finished 16th.  To win back-to-back races, Hornaday faces the task of not only beating his fellow Team Silverado drivers and the regular NCTS competitors, but his boss, Kevin Harvick.  Harvick, who won both the NASCAR Busch Series race and the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race last weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, will drive his own No.92 Yardman Chevrolet Silverado as Hornaday's teammate.

Starr and the No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Silverado team heads to Martinsville determined to continue their steady climb in the NCTS standings.  Consistency has been the key so far this season for Starr, who currently sits ninth in the standings, and his team with one top-five and two top-10 finishes thus far in the 2005 season.

Practice and qualifying for the Kroger 250 will take place on Friday, April 8, 2005.  The race will take the green flag at 1:15 pm EDT on Saturday, April 9, 2005.  The 250-lap/131.5 mile race will have live flag-to-flag television coverage provided by SPEED.  The race can also be heard on MRN Radio as well as XM Satellite Radio.
