Team Silverado claims four of the five top spots in the World Financial Group 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. David Starr contributed to that success by driving his Team Silverado No. 75 Spears Manufacturing NASCAR Craftsman truck to a 5th place finish after qualifying 10th for the one day event. Starr stayed in the top-10 throughout the action packed race as he battled for the top spot.
"Wow what a race, it was unbelievable," David Starr exclaimed. "I really thought I had the lead back there when I went under Rick Crawford. All of a sudden my spotter came over the radio telling me that Hornaday was on my inside. I don't where he came from but he got underneath me and it was a heck of a battle. Someone got tucked in behind me and got me a little loose. Then they were all around me on the inside and the outside. I was able to recover but needed to get back the spots I lost."
Starr received a lucky break when the caution came out late in the race. The field had not yet taken the white flag which sent the race into overtime. The World Financial Group 200 was to end under green/white/checkered conditions.
"When I saw that it was going to be a green/white/checkered I knew that it as going to be a great finish," Starr said. "I thought, I have one more shot at it and I was going for it. I took advantage of it and grabbed the 5th spot from Ted (Musgrave) right at the end."
Counting points after the second race of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series sends Starr to Martinsville Speedway 9th in overall points. Bringing him right back into the top-10 after an accident in California cut his day short.
"I'll tell you what, I had a fast hotrod tonight," Starr said. "I just wish I would have brought the Spears Manufacturing Chevrolet home in a little better spot. I thought we could win the race. I knew my Silverado was a little better then fifth but we'll take it. It was a good point's night and a real good start to the season. Bringing home some top-5 finishes and keeping up our points will only benefit us throughout the season. I really want to be in the race for the Championship this year. These top-5 finishes will keep us up there. I'm just glad I had the right truck tonight in my Chevy Silverado, the truck was pretty awesome. McCarty (Dave, crew chief) and the guys made good calls on pit road. Overall it was a fun race with a good finish. I look forward to heading to Martinsville to try to put this Spears Manufacturing Silverado in victory lane."
