SPEED Channel has signed veteran motor sports broadcaster Bob Jenkins to co-anchor the network's signature weekend racing news program, SPEED News.
"Bob is one of the pre-eminent motor sports journalists," said SPEED Channel Sr. Coordinating Producer Frank Wilson. "He has a strong association with NASCAR and all forms of racing. His is one of the distinctive voices in the sport, and it's great for SPEED Channel to have someone of his stature on our team."
Jenkins, who spent nearly 30 years as a motor sports announcer for ESPN and ABC, has received many honors including the Tony Hulman Award, given by the National Association of Auto Racing Fan Clubs for unselfish devotion to motor sports, the Roger McCluskey Award from the United States Auto Club in recognition of his standards of excellence in the sport of auto racing, and the Henry T. McLemore Motorsports Press Award which recognizes outstanding motor sports journalism in the field of writing, broadcasting or photography. A permanent plaque with his likeness is in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in Talladega, Ala.
"I've been a race fan all my life, so it seems only natural that I work for the network that obviously cares about and is devoted to speed and motor sports," said Jenkins, the only announcer to anchor coverage of the three events held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway -- the Indianapolis 500, NASCAR'S Brickyard 400, and the U.S. Grand Prix Formula One race. "I'm thrilled to be a part of the SPEED family."
