  Discuss

• This is Toyota's 2nd season -- and 27th race --- in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS).
• A Toyota Tundra has captured the pole 6 times in 27 NCTS races (2004-05).
• Mike Skinner's pole here today is the first for Toyota in 2005.
• Mike Skinner also captured the pole driving a Toyota at Las Vegas and Texas last year.
• In his NCTS career, Mike Skinner has 18 pole positions.  That ties him for 2nd-place on the all-time
 list with Mike Bliss.
• Mike Skinner was the inaugural NCTS champion in 1995 and he has 16 career NCTS victories.
• Brandon Witt (El Cajon, Calif.) recorded the best qualifying effort of his NCTS career when he was the 5th
fastest today.  His previous best qualifying effort was when he was 6th fastest at Miami in 2003.
• David Reutimann (Atlanta and Texas) and Travis Kvapil (California) earned the other poles for Toyota
 in 2004.

MIKE SKINNER, Bill Davis Racing, No.  5 Toyota Tundra:  HOW WAS QUALIFYING?  "It was a good lap.  When David Starr put that lap up there I thought no one's going to beat that.  It was pretty awesome and I saw that he ran wide open through (turns) one and two.  I said; 'If you're going to have a shot at him you're going to have to run wide open through (turns) one and two.'  We did that and it was really, really loose coming off (turn) two.  I don't know if I got the tires spinning a little bit and carried momentum.  My Tundra was pretty frree and I said; 'I hope I make it back around.'  When I got to (turns) three and four it was a little better.  We ended up getting through (turns) three and four and got back to the start finish line and I stopped.  I said; 'That's enough for me.  I can't hold my breath any more!'  I'm glad to be driving that Toyota Tundra -- the thing has a lot of steam."  HOW IMPORTANT IS THE POLE?  "In a way I don't think it's important, but then it's also important for the perfomance of the team.  It shows the performance of your race team and how you are working together.  This is only the second race together as a group with Jeff (Hensley) as the crew chief, so we're still learning about working together."  BILL DAVIS'S FATHER.  "A tragic thing happened yesterday with Bill Davis's father (Jake Davis, 79) dying.  Bill and Fletcher (Lord, Bill Davis Racing truck team manager) had to go back home.  So, we're really running on seven cyclinders right now.  It was a tragic thing and I just want to send my condolences to the whole Davis family and Bill and Gail.  I hope that we get through this weekend and some positive things happen."  HOW DOES IT FEEL TO DO WELL AT HOME? "I've got so many home towns I don't know which one to call home.  I was born just a few miles from here in Ontario.  So, this is kind of my hometown.  I also call Northern California (Susanville) my hometown and now I call Daytona Beach my home.  But, it all started right here and I have a lot of fans in Southern California and people that have stuck behind me."

BRANDON WHITT, Clean Line Motorsports, No. 38 McMillin Homes/Cure Autism Now Tundra:  "Yesterday, we were missing a little bit of speed in the second practice and we weren't sure where it went.  So, last night we sat down and thought about what we should do and we made changes to the truck.  What a difference it made to our Tundra.  We ran a lot faster than we did yesterday, and it handled a lot better too.  Now, as long as it will run like that for 100 laps we'll be perfect."  WHAT DOES IT MEAN QUALIFYING IN THE TOP-5?  "It's a great accomplishment for the entire team.  In just our second race with Toyota -- to have a top-five in qualifying is a big deal.  We have a truck that we feel confident of going into to the race and qualifying is definitely a confidence booster for the whole team."
