Mike Skinner drove the No. 5 Bill Davis Racing Toyota to his 16th career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series pole at the California Speedway for tonight's American Racing Wheels 200. Skinner turned a lap of 40.400 seconds around the 2-mile speedway, which translates into a speed of 178.218 miles per hour. Skinner is now tied for third on the all time NCTS pole list with Joe Ruttman.
David Starr continued his strong performance this weekend with a lap of 40.461 seconds which is good enough for an outside front row starting position. David Reutimann will line up third, with Robert Huffman and Brandon Whitt rounding out the top-5. Four Toyotas will start in the top-5, with only Starr's Chevrolet breaking the TRD dominance at the front of the field.
Jimmy Spencer will start sixth, with top Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender Todd Kluever lining up seventh. Johnny Benson was the top qualifier of the 8 drivers that were forced to time their way into the field and will start eighth, with Terry Cook and Matt Crafton rounding out the top-10.
Two drivers missed the field in qualifying; Derrike Cope and Jason Rudd were not quick enough to make the field on time. One driver, Wayne Edwards, relied on owner's points to make the field.
The American Racing Wheels 200 is scheduled for a 9:15 pm ET start tonight, and can be seen live on Speed Channel. TruckSeries.com will have comprehensive pre- and post-race coverage leading up to and following the race.
