Huffman Targets California to Showcase Tundra
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

Being sidelined at Daytona four laps before the checkered flag, fuels Robert Huffman's drive to become the sixth different NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victor at California Speedway.

"To win at California would be huge for any Toyota driver because the track is essentially in TRD's back yard," said Huffman. "Todd (Bodine) found that out last year. TRD's Costa Mesa facility is not far away from the track and it powers Toyota's American racing programs. Also, their corporate headquarters, Toyota Motor Sales, is in Torrance. I'd like to be the top Toyota driver at California this year, because I have a long-standing relationship with Toyota."

After starting 16th last October, Huffman led five laps under caution the first half of the 100-lap event eventually finishing in 17th-place.

"It felt good to be atop the leader board the first time racing there," said Huffman. "We were on a different pit sequence than everybody else and that helped position us up front. We ended up having a decent finish. I'm looking forward to going back because I know David (Reutimann) and his guys ran well out there. I know Darrell Waltrip Motorsports will put together extremely competitive trucks for both of us. I'll have a better package than I did last year."

Huffman's expectations with the Darrell Waltrip Motorsports team exceed his six top-10 finishes collected last season in 24 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts.

"I didn't know what to expect last year, but this year I have a list of goals to achieve in the No. 12 Toyota Tundra," said Huffman. "We had a great showing at Daytona and we are moving forward to California with the same objectives. I think we are only going to get better as the season progresses. This Darrell Waltrip Motorsports team means business and I'm glad to be a part of their organization."

Before racing at California, Robert Huffman and other Toyota-powered NCTS drivers plan to visit Toyota's corporate headquarters this Wednesday for Motorsports Day.

"Toyota's Motorsports Day allows their senior management and employees to meet and become familiar with all of the Toyota drivers," said Huffman. "Toyota knows how to maximize their program and they do such a great job. Both David and I are looking forward to being a part of this event."

This Friday, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series revisits California Speedway for the ninth time. The American Racing Wheels 200 begins at 9:00 p.m. live on SPEED Channel. MRN Radio will broadcast the 100-lap event.
