Coming away from Daytona International Speedway with an undamaged racecar and a solid top ten finish is enough to make anyone smile, but for Mighty Motorsports, it felt as good as a win. In their first ever Craftsman truck Series event, driver Wayne Edwards avoided several major incidents to bring home the Chevrolet Silverado with a 9th place finish in the Florida Dodge Dealers 250 season opener.
After starting the race from the 35th starting position, Edwards used patients and some timely pit strategy to work his way into the top ten before the checkered flag fell. After the race the team was extremely excited, but also very relieved. "I guess you can't ask for more than that in your first race", said team owner Rob Ferguson. "We came here and tested back in January with hopes of just making the race, and now we have our first top ten."
Wayne Edwards, a resident of Simpsonville KY, climbed as high as seventh place only to get shuffled back out of the draft, and having to work his way up to his finishing position. "The truck was good, we had good pit stops, and I am really looking forward to next weekend in California", said Edwards.
After race one of the scheduled 25 events, Wayne Edwards currently maintains the 10th position in driver points.
The next stop for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is scheduled for Friday, February 25, 2005 at the California Speedway. Start time for the race is 9:00 E.T., and will be broadcasted on the SPEED network and MRN Radio.
