Hamilton Racing "Freak," a Proven Daytona Winner
TruckSeries.com Report Printer Version

  Discuss

Tough Trucks, Tough Series: "Every chance we get to show the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series to new fans, it is a bonus for us.  A lot of people really rally around the Nextel Cup level, but often say I watch the Craftsman Truck Series to see real racing.  Once upon a time our series was built on tough trucks beating and banging on each other and we have lived up to that reputation.  I wish everyone would watch one event, and then they would be hooked.  We had a successful year last season, but the championship wasn't won on a few good runs.  It was the consistency that got us the title.  Over the off season we looked at a stat book from when Ron Hornaday and Greg Biffle were hot picks in the truck garage area.  We figured they would be about a 15th-place truck now.  The competition has jumped up that much in the past few years.  It is stout, so you can't let your guard down for one minute without someone taking advantage of it.  That is how it is supposed to be.  This year will be tough trucks and tough racing, but the championship will be even tougher."

People Count: "Racing today is not only about the drivers, but it's about the teams too.  This is such a people business and my deal at BHR is no different. What happens in the Craftsman Truck Series is a lot of these guys don't have a lot of turnover so their people dwell together more and become as one. You can have the best motors in the world, the best downforce and if you don't have good people it just doesn't work for some reason. The driver has handcuffs on. The minute the people start coming alive, it makes it a lot easier."

Notes:

  • Hamilton is racing "Freak" this weekend.  Joe Ruttman and Robert Pressley both won at Daytona International Speedway in this particular truck.
  • Hamilton is the current NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion.
  • Hamilton will also run the IROC race on Friday before the NCTS race begins.
  • Two out of five Daytona NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races have been won by a BHR Dodge.

IROC Series:  "One of the best things about winning the championship was the fact that I was asked to run in the IROC Series this year.  It is something that I've always wanted to do, so it is a whole new experience for me in racing.  I've been at the track already testing them and really enjoyed driving the IROC cars.  They feel great. It reminds me of the Cup cars a couple of years ago when we had the wickers on like the ones on the IROC cars today.  It is fun. There are four practice cars and I got to drive every one of them. I got to mess around out there with Danny Lasoski and Sebastien Bourdais along with the Sauters and Dave Marcis. I'm glad I came over here to test them because the cars are different than Craftsman Truck and Busch cars. I'm going to keep testing as much as I can and get more time in the cars before we race on Friday."
