| Rain Didn't Dampen Daytona Test for Roush Truck Teams
01-18-2005 | TruckSeries.com Report
Although it took longer than expected to get on track due to rain, once Ricky Craven and Todd Kluever hit the high-banks of Daytona the Roush teammates knew their trucks would be tough competition. Both drivers spent Sunday evening and most of Monday preparing their trucks for the season-opening race of the Craftsman Truck Series. "We made a lot of progress working on how the truck drives," said Craven, driver of the No. 99 Superchips Ford F-150. "We ran about 100 laps on Monday alone. We made some really good changes to the truck from Sunday to Monday that took some time but they were well worth it. I think we learned a lot about the truck. "It was really windy while we were there so that was good that we were able to test under those conditions. It's a different sensation drafting with the trucks than with the cars because the trucks seem to move around more. We had a good test and I'm really looking forward to going back for the race in February." Kluever also had a successful test during his first trip to the famed superspeedway. He will drive the No. 50 Shell ROTELLAâ T Ford F-150 at the Daytona race. "I think the test went very well," Kluever said. "The truck was really loose on Sunday night and we made some changes that tightened it up, but also slowed it down. Monday we changed it back to the loose set-up and spent time working on tightening it up without losing speed. I think we found a pretty good balance. "I did quite a bit of drafting and Ricky (Craven) was great helping me with that. He worked with me a lot and I feel like I learned so much in those two days. I can't wait to go back for the race. Hopefully it will be dry so we don't have to wait an extra day to race like we did to test." Roush Racing is a subsidiary of Livonia, Mich., based Roush Industries that operates 10 motorsports teams; five in NASCAR Nextel Cup with drivers Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards, three in the Busch Series with Martin, Kenseth and Edwards, and two in the Craftsman Truck Series with drivers Ricky Craven and Todd Kluever.
