TrackSideLive!  | Chevrolet Silverado 150
Phoenix Int'l Raceway | November 8, 2002
TrackSideLive! brings you exclusive online coverage of the tough trucks and even tougher drivers of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Check out the TrackSideLive! Archives

Word in the garage is there will be some interesting additions to the entry list for the final NCTS race of the season in Homestead. Many drivers from several different series and divisions were spotted walking the garage area speaking with team owners working on deals for the last race of the season and for 2003. Keep it locked to TruckSeries.com for all of the news leading up to the Championship Shootout at the Ford 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. (7:36 pm ET)

Mike Bliss, #16 IWX Motor Freight/Knights Inn Chevrolet: "We had a first-place truck today. If we don't have an engine problem, we win the race. We were still running solid lap times and finished in the Top-10 despite running on seven cylinders the last half of the race. You could say we were lucky to finish after having an engine problem and you'd be right. Then again, if we don't have the problem, we're right there fighting for the win at the finish. We got a good old fashioned NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points race heading into Miami. We know what we have to do to win. We did it here at Phoenix and had the best truck here. We just didn't get the results we wanted. Everyone is still chasing us. The pressure is still on them. If we just do what we need to do at Miami, we'll be the ones sitting at the championship table at the banquet." (7:31 pm ET)

Steve Portenga, #39 Roto Rooter Chevrolet: "Well, one down, one to go. At least we finished this week. It has been a rough year, and we are looking forward to getting it past us. We will be back in the Southwest Tour next year, and we are going to go out and erase the memories of this frustrations this season has brought us with another championship." (7:30 pm ET)

Jason Leffler, #2 Team ASE/CarQuest Dodge: "I guess I misjudged the No. 4 truck coming off Turn 4 and got turned around. The Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge wasn't as fast as we had hoped today, but we were in line for a decent finish. I hate it for all the guys on the team. They worked real hard to put a good truck underneath me and, unfortunately, we weren't able to capitalize on it." (7:28 pm ET)

Jon Wood, #50 US Navy Ford: "This is about as slippery as I've seen this track. I don't know exactly why or what, but it was difficult to pass. If you got a guy in front of you and took a little bit of air off of your truck and that thing wouldn't turn in a country field. You're fighting an aero-push on top of a slippery track and worn tires, so you just had to baby it around the corners." (7:11 pm ET)

Carlos Contreras, #43 Hot Wheels Dodge: "Well, the truck was pretty good through the first pit today, but only through the first pit. We were a little tight off, but fast, very fast. We were able to take a lot of spots. But when we took the second set of tires we were very bad. We were just way too tight. Those tires were so different from our first set and we were just hoping for a caution, but it just never came. (7:03 pm ET)

Bill Lester, #8 Dodge Motorsports Dodge: "We improved a lot after pitting on that second caution. But then the truck tightened up. That was what we were fighting from center off. It killed our momentum terribly, and I was just a sitting duck out there. It's just going to take some experience with us working together to get it right. But there's no question in anyone's mind, I think, that we're definitely fast when it's right." (7:06 pm ET)

Brendan Gaughan, #62 NAPA Auto Parts/The Orleans Dodge: "Man, that's three straight freaking years that we've been 13th here. But, next weekend will be our final race with NAPA Auto Parts, so we'll be going for one more win there. We were the second Dodge today. I think we would've been damn good. We just got hung up with some lapped traffic, and it took our nose in a little bit. We all know that these things aren't the easiest things to drive anyway, but when you make them real loose it gets even worse. We gave it a shot though. We had great power today-we ran 9,200 all day. Kevin Kroyer builds great motors and Dodge has the power in them." (7:05 pm ET)

Ted Musgrave, #1 Mopar Performance Dodge: "We battled some aero-push that kept us from getting around Kevin (Harvick) at the end there, but that's just the way it is. We tried everything other than taking him out. On the last lap we gave him a shove over and let him know that we were a little quicker. I wrinkled his quarter panel a little bit - what the heck, it's Harvick you know?" (7:02 pm ET)

Jason Small, #07 Small Motorsports Chevrolet: "We had a plug fall out of the oil pump. That is the fourth time we have been on fire this year. I don't think I have been on fire four times in my entire career. Just typical of the way our season has gone, I guess." (6:58 pm ET)

Cory Kruseman, #98 Menards/Agromin Chevrolet: "We had a blast this weekend. I learned so much with Kevin Cram on board, and he helped me improve about 200% since Wednesday. Agromin is really excited about everything, and I think we will be back a few more times in 2003." (6:58 pm ET)

Lance Norick, #90 Express Personnel Services Chevrolet: "We just had some bad luck. There was some sort of electrical problem with the engine and it just shut down." (6:55 pm ET)

Bobby Dotter, #08 Stanley Steemer Chevrolet: "This weather change just messed up the handle and we were never able to catch up to it. The lack of cautions really hurt, because we only had one chance to make a change. But we gained some points on Norick, so that is a positive. We'll take the same truck to Homestead and we should have a good run there too." (6:54 pm ET)

Matt Crafton, #88 Menards/ColorPave Chevrolet: "We didn't want that last yellow. We were probably going to get up to sixth or so. But there is one guy out there that just never gets out of the way. He has his buddies that he moves over for, and we were racing with one of his buddies. He is laps down and stays right in the groove and races us hard like it is for position. But, we had a great run and a good finish. With Paul (Menard) winning yesterday and us finishing fourth in the Tour race, overall it has been a really good weekend." (6:50 pm ET)

Terry Cook, #29 Power Stroke Diesel Ford: "I think we might have finally ditched that monkey on our back. That is the way this Power Stroke Diesel Ford is supposed to run. We will buff it and puff it and take this truck to Homestead. We want to go down there and win the race. Would be nice to tie Bliss for the most wins this season." (6:45 pm ET)

Andy Houston, #15 Billy Ballew Motorsports Ford: "What a day. We had an oil leak, it was leaking out of the tank and out onto the right rear tire and we never knew about it until after the race. We kept tightening it up because it was loose, and it just took away all the grip. It would push real bad and it was really loose, and we had no idea why until we stopped in the pits after the race." (6:41 pm ET)

David Starr, #75 Spears Manufacturing Chevrolet: "We had a motor problem. Then, on that last restart, I went down into turn one and must have had some buildup on the tires and it about flew up into the wall on me. Not the day we were looking for, that's for sure." (6:35 pm ET)

Travis Kvapil, #60 CAT Rental Stores Chevrolet: "I owe it all to my team. Those guys never gave up all weekend. That's five top-5 finishes in a row for this team, and this one all goes to those guys. It is a nice way to wrap up a frustrating weekend." (6:32 pm ET)

Rick Crawford, #14 Circle Car Racing Ford: "Well, we had a decent day, but then again, we didn't win, did we? We aren't happy unless we win. We are going to Homestead next week, and that place is awfully special to us. When we won there in 1998, we didn't have much of a celebration, so we would like to make a dual celebration. Winning the race, and winning this championship." (6:30 pm ET)

Kevin Harvick, #6 Kevin Harvick.com Chevy: "I got my start with Wayne and Connie Spears, and running and winning out on the West coast was always important to them, and that is not lost on me. I am very happy to get this first Truck win out here. We have a lot of family and friends out here, and it is really important to us. We didn't want to see that last caution flag, but we knew we had the truck to beat on that last restart." (6:27 pm ET)

Rick Ren, crew chief, #60 CAT Rental Stores Chevrolet: "We changed springs, bars, everything this morning. We moved a lot of the components off the primary truck onto the backup after the crash on Friday, but the bodies are so different that it didn't really take that setup too well. If the weather stays like it is, it should help with the changes we have made this morning." (1:10 pm ET)

What has affected the teams this morning is the sudden weather change. All the practice and qualifying was run with bright sunshine and warm temperatures. With the overcasts skies and cooler temps, look for many teams to fight a tight condition today. "If it stays like this, we will likely have to make some air pressure changes right before the race starts," says Bobby Dotter, driver of the #08 Stanley Steemer Chevrolet. "We had a slight tight condition in practice yesterday, and the track will be much tighter today. We have some adjustability built into the setup, and can make those changes on the first stop if we need to." (1:05 pm ET)

No reported engine changes so far this morning at PIR. (12:29 pm ET)

The number one pre-race instruction SealMaster Racing will give to series rookie Cory Kruseman this afternoon is to keep all four wheels on the ground during the Silverado 150. Kruseman raced last evening at nearby Manzanita Speedway in the SCRA Western Non-Wing Word Championship sprint car race, and ended on his lid on the second lap. After a brief checkup with the medical crew, Kruseman booked back to the pits where the crew was busy repairing the damage to the car. Just minutes after flipping the car, The Kruser was back on track. It was all for naught, however, as an engine fire eliminated Kruseman just three laps from the finish after he raced from 22nd to 13th. (12:28 pm ET)

Good morning from PIR! Skies are overcast and temps are cool, which should lead to some hot action on the track this afternoon! We will be here with all the news and notes as the teams prepare for the penultimate race of the 2002 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season. (12:10 pm ET)

This concludes Trackside Live! presented by The Orleans from Phoenix International Raceway.  (8:45 pm)

Matt Crafton finished fourth in tonight's Cruise America 125 Southwest Series event.  Crafton's teammate Paul Menard won the race after passing leader and eventual runner-up Ken Schrader coming to take the white flag.  (7:32 pm ET)

The rundown with just two minutes remaining:

    Bliss, Crawford, Musgrave, Starr, Small

    Norick, Cook, Leffler, Wood, Harvick

    Kvapil, Lester, Schrader, Pressley, Gaughan

    Houston, Compton, Portenga, Dotter, Crafton

    Setzer, Hemphill, Gibbs, Contreras, Boyd

    Rose, Cofer, Kruseman, MacDonald, Hill

    Smith, Mallory (4:43 pm ET)

Most teams have not been able to turn many laps in this shortened final practice.  The most so far has been 20 laps by Kenny Schrader. (4:42 pm ET)

The 79 and 63 trucks both were pulled off the speedway by NASCAR officials for not having a spotter in the assigned spotters' stand.  (4:45 pm ET)

The #51 Ware Racing Enterprises Dodge driven by Brian Rose has been black flagged and sent to the pits for evaluation by the NASCAR officials.  (4:38 pm ET)

Happy Hour is underway!  Okay, it's really just Happy Quarter Hour...  The top-10 just into the final 15 minutes of practice:

    Bliss, Crawford, Musgrave, Small, Norick

Kvapil, Lester, Wood, Pressley, Gaughan (4:34 pm ET)

Brendan Gaughan, #62 NAPA/The Orleans Dodge:    "This is one of those tracks where experience will really be key.  It is such an odd deal.  Its really flat in three and four, and one and two are pretty odd.  That little half wall always scares me coming out of turn two.  I think we just slipped here a little this week.  Everytime I let Shane Wilson make the calls, we do okay.  Whenever I start to act like I know what I am doing, we go to hell.  So this week, it is my own fault." (4:07 pm ET)

Carlos Contreras, #43 Hot Wheels Dodge:    "We ran the same we did in practice.  We were tight off the corners, so we can be a little bit faster in the middle of the turns." (4:04 pm ET)

Ted Musgrave, #1 Mopar Performance Dodge:    "The track changed a little bit.  It's not really swamped.  The truck ran faster earlier in the day, but the track was in better shape then.  That was just race stuff we ran on our qualifying lap.  If we can run those speeds in the race, we should be in good shape."  (4:02 pm ET)

Blake Mallory, #72 Mobile Force Refueling Chevrolet:    "The track got a lot more greasy since the last practice. With full sun on the track it is effecting everyone speeds. I ran the second fastest lap of the weekend at 29.859 at 120.587 mph. Hopefully it will be enough to get in on speed, but if not we will take a provisional and race our way to the front." (3:58 pm ET)

Bill Lester, #8 Dodge Motorsports Dodge:    "I am still trying to get over the fact that we missed out on the pole by one one-thousandth of a second.  The lap was one of those that you could say there wasn't anything left on the table.  I couldn't even stand it (watching).  After I saw how much we picked up, I just went to the trailer and waited.  I couldn't even look at the scoreboard.  Needless to say, Crawford got us, and I congratulate him."  (3:54 pm ET)

Terry Cook, #29 Power Stroke Diesel Ford:    "Our flat track program has been on kill mode all year long, but this track has really thrown us for a loop.  We struggled, and struggled, and struggled.  I told Bob Keselopwski before qualifying we were no better than a 20th-place truck and to change anything he wanted.  He put on four new shocks, four new springs, two bars, and it all paid off."  (3:50 pm ET)

Stan Boyd, #89 Checker Auto Parts/NGK Spark Plugs Chevy:    “Because we have one truck, we go to the races with a conservative approach.  If I mess up in qualifying, then I don’t start the race.  Starting the race is important naturally.  All year we’ve worked without a backup truck and have qualified on used tires.  Back home at Auto City Speedway I was the same way.  I would lap the field in the race but only qualify fourth or fifth.  Racing is what I do best.  I was hoping to get a top-15 or top-20 qualifying run and beat my 19th place start from Texas Motor Speedway earlier this year.  We’ll take 21st and try to improve on our start.  If we don’t have any trouble with the truck and the race plays in our favor, then we will finish better than we qualified.”

Six drivers failed to qualify for the Silverado 150:    Clay Collier, Lonnie Cox, Ricky Sanders, Loni Richardson, John Mickel, and Bobby Hillis, Jr.  Hillis did not make a qualifying attempt.  (3:21 pm ET)

Rick Crawford, #14 Circle Bar Racing Ford:    "We gave it all we had.  We knew we had a fast truck, it was fast in practice.  We put a qualifying setup underneath of it and mashed the gas.  We almost outsmarted ourselves on the weather, I tried to play meteorologist, but it worked out." (3:19 pm ET)

With just a few minutes left in NASCAR Busch Series practice, several former NCTS drivers are near the top of the speed charts:    Jamie McMurray (5th), Greg Biffle (6th), Kevin Harvick (7th), Stacy Compton (9th), Ron Hornaday (11th), and Jack Sprague (19th) are all within the top-20.  (1:51 pm ET)

The #20 MBNA Chevrolet of Coy Gibbs made it back out just before practice ended.  (12:05 pm ET)

The session is over...a complete time and speed report will be posted, linked off the main page, as soon as it is available.  (11:55 am ET)

Rundown with just five minutes left in the session:

    Crawford, Bliss, Pressley, Musgrave, Crafton

    Starr, Leffler, Setzer, Lester, Harvick

    Compton, Schrader, Norick, Cook, Smith

    Houston, Wood, Hemphill, Gaughan, Small

    Dotter, Portenga, Kvapil, Contreras, Hooper

    Cofer, Boyd, Ricahrdson, MacDonald, Rose

    Cox, Jones, Mickel, Collier, Kruseman

Mallory, Sanders, Bonifield (11:50 am ET)

Red flag is out for debris in turn one.  (11:26 am ET)

The rundown after 30 minutes:

    Crawford, Bliss, Musgrave, Leffler, Setzer

    Starr, Schrader, Compton, Norick, Harvick

    Smith, Lester, Houston, Wood, Pressley

    Kvapil, Crafton, Gaughan, Dotter, Cook

    Hooper, Boyd, Hemphill, Small, Portenga

    MacDonald, Contreras, Cox, Jones, Cofer

    Mickel, Shepherd, Hill, Collier, Richardson

Kruseman, Mallory, Sanders, Bonifield (11:35 am ET)

Damage report on the #20 MBNA Chevrolet is promising. Looks like the damage was limited to just sheet metal, and the team is busy working on banging the right front fender, hood, and nose back into place.  (11:28 am ET)

With 42 teams entered and track time very limited with three other series on site, many teams have not been able to get a clean run on the track to get a mock qualifying run in.  Traffic in pre-qualifying practice is not usually too bad, but there have been many packs of traffic in this morning's session.  (11:22 am ET)

Thirty-seven drivers have been on the track after 15 minutes of practice.  The rundown:

     Musgrave, Crawford, Schrader, Compton, Setzer

     Starr, Kvapil, Wood, Bliss, Gaughan

     Harvick, Leffler, Smith, Norick, Cook

     Crafton, Small, Houston, Dotter, Cox

     Portenga, Hooper, Boyd, Contreras, Jones

     Cofer, Shepherd, Hemphill, Collier, Richardson

     Mickel, Lester, Kruseman, Rose, Sanders

     Bonifield, Hill  (11:20 am ET)

Drivers not released to practice because they did not have spotters in the stand included Dennis Setzer, Bobby Hillis, and Eric Jones.   UPDATE:    Setzer is on the track, still waiting on Jones and Hillis.  (11:11 am ET)  Jones has been released to practice as well.  (11:13 am ET)

Practice was just underway when Coy Gibbs spun coming out of turn four and nosed into the turn four wall.  The truck has some damage to the right front corner.  "It might be worse than it looks," Gibbs said right after the contact.  No word yet on whether they will go to a backup in time for qualifying.  (11:06 am ET)  UPDATE:    Gibbs' spin and subsequent contact may have been due to cold tires.  The sun is shining and it is warming up here at PIR, but it is still cool as practice begins.  (11:08 am ET)

The NCTS is ready to take to the track!  Practice should begin momentarily, and we will have the news and notes as it develops.  (10:58 am ET)

One interested spectator during Southwest Tour practice was Ryan Hemphill.  Hemphill won a Tour-style Re/MAX Challenge Series event earlier this season at Gateway, and followed it up with an All-Pro win at Nashville.  "This cars are a lot more fun to drive than the trucks," Hemphill said.  "You can drive them a little harder because they are lighter and they run on bias ply tires.  We sold our car earlier this season or we would have brought it out here.  We might build one over the winter and run it in the conjunction races next year."  (10:52 am ET)

Former part-time NCTS competitor Randy Nelson is at PIR to run in today's Cruise America 125 Featherline Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring event.  Nelson ran 8 NCTS races between the 1997 race at Colorado National Speedway and the 1999 season opener at Homestead.  He is starting 13th in today's event.  (10:20 am ET)

Good morning from PIR!  The sunrise over the mountains was spectacular as the NCTS teams are busy preparing to take to the track first thing this morning.  Live coverage of that practice session will begin 11 am ET.  (10:10 am ET)

This concludes Trackside Live presented by The Orleans for Wednesday, November 6. Teams will be back at it bright and early preparing to qualify for the Silverado 150.  With 42 teams on the entry list, it should be a competitive qualifying session.  Keep it locked on to TruckSeries.com for Live! Qualifying presented by Acxiom on Thursday at 2 pm ET.

Cory Kruseman, #98 Menards/Agromin Soil Products Chevrolet:    "We were out there searching for the cushion, that's for sure!  We never jumped it and got into the fence, so that is a good thing.  We are looking for about a half second, and I think the truck has it, and I know the driver has it.  We will make a few changes in the morning and chase after it!"   (8:18 pm ET)

Stacy Compton, #17 Harris Trucking/Melling Engine Parts Dodge:    "We have a good race setup.  I am not as confident in our qualifying setup, but man, this thing is just so consistent in race trim.  I have never been out of the top-10 in this truck, so we should have a good run this weekend too.  We are trying to get a deal worked out that will get the team out here full time and let DW and me share the ride with a fast young kid.  We have some irons in the fire, hopefully one of them catches."  (8:16 pm ET)

Stan Boyd, #89 EVI Chevrolet:    "We have a volunteer crew here this weekend and they were running their tails off today.  We need to add a little gear to it to get a little more speed out of it.  I think we have a 15th place truck, but knowing me in qualifying, we will end up 29th.  But this truck always races really good."  (8:14 pm ET)

Mike Cofer, #04 North Texas Aircraft Services Ford:    "I ran a Southwest Tour car here, but that was back in 1994.  It took me a little bit to get used to it, but it's like riding a bike.  After a little bit, it all comes back to you."  (8:13 pm ET)

Terry Cook, #29 Power Stroke Diesel Ford:    "We knocked the new off of it on the first lap on the track.  Just grazed the wall a little and rubbed some paint off it.  Overall, the truck isn't that bad.  We should be alright this weekend."  (8:11 pm ET)

Mike Bliss, #16 IWX Motor Freight/Knights Inn Chevrolet:    "It was a little tight.  The biggest problem was the sun getting in your eyes into turn one.  It was hard to get a clean lap because everytime you went down into one, you just couldn't see." (8:10 pm ET)

David Starr, #75 Spears Manufacturing Chevrolet:    "It was a little loose and a little tight at the same time.  This place is a real challenge to get around, but it is a lot of fun at the same time."  (8:06 pm ET)

A full rundown with times and speeds will be posted, linked off the main page, as soon as it is available from NASCAR.  The session is now over, with Bliss turning the fastest lap at 125.905 mph.  (6:20 pm ET)

With mere seconds left in the session, your full field rundown:

    Bliss, Musgrave, Crawford, Starr, Pressley

     Setzer, Norick, Harvick, Leffler, Kvapil

     Cook, Gaughan, Lester, Wood, Schrader

     Houston, Hemphill, Crafton, Gibbs, Compton

     Smith, Dotter, Small, Hooper, Shepherd

     Portenga, Contreras, Boyd, MacDonald, Cofer

     Cox, Jones, Rose, Hill, Kruseman

     Sanders, Collier, Mickel, Mallory, Richardson

     Hillis (6:18 pm ET)

Travis Kvapil has just pulled the backup #60 CAT Rental Stores Chevy on to the track.  (6:13 pm ET)

Red flag again out as there are reports of oil on the frontstretch and into turns one and two.  Reports have the oil coming from the #05 of Bobby Hillis, Jr. (7:02 pm ET)  UPDATE:    NASCAR officials have said the Hillis truck is "clean underneath, just a few drops".  Cleanup crews have inspected the surface and trucks are back on track. (7:05 pm ET)

Twenty-five minutes remain in practice...the rundown:

    Bliss, Musgrave, Crawford, Starr, Pressley

     Setzer, Leffler, Kvapil, Harvick, Cook

     Gaughan, Lester, Norick, Wood, Schrader

     Houston, Crafton, Gibbs, Compton, Smith

     Hemphill, Dotter, Small, Hooper, Shepherd

     Portenga, Contreras, Boyd, Cofer, MacDonald

     Cox, Rose, Jones, Hill, Sanders

     Kruseman, Collier, Mickel, Mallory, Richardson

     Hillis (6:55 pm ET)

Pierre Debris is back!  This time, in turn 2, slowing the session for the fifth time.  (6:54 pm ET)

Kvapil looks to be back out on the track before too long, but the team is busy removing some of the parts from the crashed truck and putting them on the backup. The team is working on transferring shocks and brake ducts.  Kvapil has been released from the care center and is walking back to his pit stall.  (6:52 pm ET)

Ricky Sanders grazed the frontstretch wall coming out of turn four, but has continued on in the #19 Billet Products/Pitboxes.com Ford without stopping practice.  (6:50 pm ET)

NASCAR instituted a new rule here after the Kvapil incident.  It used to be that if a vehicle could be driven back to the pits/garage, the driver did not have to make a visit to the care center.  Now, NASCAR has the discretion to send a driver for a precautionary checkup even after a minor contact with the wall.  Series director Wayne Auton was in the Kvapil pit stall and asked track medics to take Travis in for a quick checkup.  (6:48 pm ET)

Travis Kvapil, #60 CAT Rental Store Chevrolet:    "I just lost in in three and four, and it got up into the fence with the right rear.  It slapped the right side pretty good.  Looks like we will have to go to the backup."  (6:45 pm ET)

Travis Kvapil has backed the #60 CAT Rental Store Chevy into the turn four wall, bringing out the fourth red flag of the session.  There is some damage to the rear of the truck, and the team is now starting to evaluate the damage.  More on this situation as it develops.  (6:40 pm ET)

A full forty-driver rundown:

    Musgrave, Bliss, Starr, Pressley, Crawford

     Leffler, Kvapil, Harvick, Schrader, Setzer

     Norick, Gaughan, Cook, Wood, Crafton

     Compton, Smith, Dotter, Houston, Lester

     Gibbs, Shepherd, Hemphill, Small, Hooper

     Boyd, Cox, Portenga, Jones, Contreras

     Cofer, MacDonald, Sanders, Rose, Kruseman

Hill, Mickel, Mallory, Hillis, Richardson (6:38 pm ET)

Forty of the forty-two drivers entered have been on the speedway.  Only Clay Collier and Phil Bonifield have not made an official lap in practice.  (6:35 pm ET)

Hearing that Bobby Dotter could be making a sponsorship announcement for the final two races sometime tomorrow.  (6:25 pm ET)

Practice has been extended due to the late start, and will end at 7:20 pm ET.  (6:23 pm ET)

The trucks are out on the track under a yellow flag condition to help blow the oil dry off the surface.  The track should go full green in a few moments.  (6:21 pm ET)

The top-20 (all that is available) as of the latest red flag:

    Musgrave, Pressley, Crawford, Bliss, Leffler

     Kvapil, Starr, Harvick, Schrader, Setzer

     Gaughan, Cook, Smith, Compton, Dotter

Crafton, Lester, Shepherd, Wood, Small (6:20 pm ET)

Many teams have reported oil on the track in turns three and four, so NASCAR has waved the red for the third time in the session.  Reports are the #0 of Loni Richardson has developed an engine problem, causing the oil slick.  (6:12 pm ET)  UPDATE:    Jon Wood apparently hit the oil coming out of turn 4 and nearly clipped the wall, precipitating the red.  The oil runs from the dog leg on the backstretch through turns three and four and all the way down the frontstretch.  (6:13 pm ET)

The rundown after 15 minutes of practice:

Debris has again brought out the red flag...this time, the elusive Frenchman was spotted loitering in turn two.  (5:54 pm ET)

Green flag back out...first on to track are Kvapil, Bliss, Wood, and Leffler.  (5:53 pm ET)

Just one minute after practice started, the red flag is out for a quick spin by Bill Lester.  No damage to the truck and Lester has pulled it into the pits.  (5:50 pm ET)

The green flag is out at PIR!  First on to the track was the #8 Dodge Motorsports Dodge of Bill Lester followed by the #93 TheGoal.com Chevrolet of Randy MacDonald.  (5:49 pm ET)

The Trucks are rolling down pit road, awaiting the green flag to begin practice.  The track crew is performing a quick track inspection and the Trucks should be on the track momentarily.  (5:46 pm ET)

Drivers entered in the NCTS Silverado 150 that made qualifying attempts for the Southwest Series Cruisin' America 150 include Kenny Schrader (qualified 2nd) and Matt Crafton (qualified 9th). (5:41 pm ET)

NCTS Practice is set to begin in just a few minutes.  Southwest Tour qualifying is wrapping up, and as soon as it ends, the Truck Series will take to the track for 90 minutes of practice leading up to tomorrow's qualifying.  (5:37 pm ET)

Jason Leffler is a late add to the double duty list, replacing Casey Atwood in Jim Smith's #7 Sirius Satellite Radio Ultra Motorsports Dodge for the final two races of the season. (5:12 pm ET)

Lance Hooper is another driver doing double duty, attempting to qualify the #47 Lucas Oil Products Ford in the Cup race as well as the #86 Red Line Oil Chevrolet in the NCTS.  Hooper has a great Phoenix story, coming here in 1994 to qualify for the Southwest Tour race with a one-man crew, himself.  He picked up some volunteer help in the infield, and talked the Goodyear man into a set of tires to qualify on. "I had no money with me, so I had to make a deal with him," Hooper said.  "If I qualified on the pole, he had to buy my tires for the race.  He said 'yeah, okay, you win the pole and I'll buy your tires.'  I went out and broke the track record by two tenths of a second and he bought me the tires for the race.  We ended up finishing seventh, but after that, we got to do a lot of tire testing for Goodyear."  (5:07 pm ET)

The #6 KevinHarvick.com/Snap-On Tools Chevrolet of Kevin Harvick is sporting a new paintjob this weekend.  The truck now has a sharp and distinctive black and red pain scheme this weekend.  (5:01 pm ET)

John Mickel is looking to mark a milestone here this weekend by becoming the first Englishman to start an NCTS event.  Mickel, 27, is a 19-year veteran of oval track racing in Great Britain, and has won 17 championships in various divisions ranging from the British equivalent of sprint cars to their version of ASA or Southwest Tour cars.  His sponsor for the weekend is RS Capp, a satellite communications company based in England.  Mickel put in 60-70 laps at Mesa Marin before coming to Phoenix.  "I had to stop early because I got dizzy going around there so fast," he joked prior to qualifying.  (4:53 pm ET)

Phoenix is the favorite track for Bobby Hamilton Racing, and with good reason.  In 1989, Bobby Hamilton made his NASCAR Winston Cup Series debut in the famous Days of Thunder car.  In 1996, he earned his first Cup victory driving the #43 STP Pontiac for The King.  In 2000, Joe Ruttman scored BHR's first NCTS victory here in the Chevy Trucks 150.  "We expect big things when we come here," said BHR team spokesman David Pepper.

Also at Irwindale on Monday...the #29 Power Stroke Diesel Ford was at the track to shoot a commercial for Power Stroke.  No word yet on when the commercial will hit the air.  (4:41 pm ET)

Cory Kruseman is preparing to run his initial NCTS event, and in doing so, tested his #98 Menards/Agromin Chevrolet at Irwindale Speedway on Monday.  Kruseman logged 150 laps at the half-mile oval, his first time in a NASCAR-style vehicle.  By the end of the session, "The Kruser" was only 0.2 seconds off the fast lap set by SealMaster Racing's regular driver, Matt Crafton.  Kruseman did get his rookie stripe, so to speak, when he grazed the wall on the last lap of his first 25-lap session.  While at the test, Paul Menard, a Re/MAX Challenge Series, NASCAR Touring veteran, hopped in the truck and took a few laps as well.  (4:40 pm ET)

Matt Crafton is running double duty this weekend, participating in Friday's Silverado 150 NCTS event in the Menards/ColorPave Chevrolet as well as running the Cruise America 125 Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring event on Thursday.  Crafton is the 2000 NFSS champion.  (2:32 pm ET)

Good morning (or afternoon back on the East coast) from Phoenix International Speedway!  It is sunny and warm in the Sun Valley, and the teams are busy preparing the Tough Trucks for first practice session for the Silverado 150.  Stay locked on to TrackSide Live! presented by The Orleans for all the news and notes from a very busy PIR as they develop.  (2:22 pm ET)
