Speedweeks 2008 will begin a week sooner than anticipated for NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series rookie Brian Scott as the Boise, Idaho native has been tapped to drive the No. 75 Bob Schacht Motorsports Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS for the ARCA RE/MAX Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway in Saturday's ARCA 200 at Daytona. "I can't wait for the green flag to drop on Saturday," said Scott, who made two ARCA RE/MAX Series starts in 2007 with Country Joe Racing. "Bob Schacht Motorsports has an outstanding reputation in the garage and I am very fortunate to be behind the wheel of the team's Chevrolet for the ARCA season opener." (BrianScottRacing.com Photo)

The only sure thing to bet on for the season-opening Chevy Silverado 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Daytona International Speedway is intensity. Everything else is pretty much an unknown until the trucks take to the high-banked 2.5-mile track. In eight previous Daytona NCTS races, there have been two three-wide finishes at the wire and a wealth of last-lap passes and nail-biting excitement. Ironically, the one thing this race hasn't provided is an NCTS champion - no driver as ever won both this race and the series title in the same season. That said, this year's Chevy Silverado 250 field features no less than five former NCTS champions: Todd Bodine, Ron Hornaday Jr., Ted Musgrave, Jack Sprague and Mike Skinner. Collectively, the five have earned eight championships, 114 victories and more than $24 million in winnings. Of the five, though, only Sprague has won at Daytona International Speedway.

Erik Darnell captured the newly re-named Keystone Light Pole qualifying award on Thursday evening at Daytona International Speedway, the only driver to break the 176 mph mark. Darnell and his No. 99 Northern Tool + Equipment Ford team will share the front row in Friday night's Chevy Silverado 250 with veteran driver Terry Cook in the No. 60 Wyler.com Toyota that clocked a 51.179 sec. lap at 175.853 mph. "It was a good lap for our Northern Tool + Equipment Ford. I honestly didn't know if we'd have enough for the pole, there were a couple other guys out there in practice that were pretty quick." Darnell said Thursday evening "I wasn't worried about where we started, but more worried about how the truck was going to race and we've got it handling well in the draft. I'm looking forward to the race tomorrow night." (Ronda Greer/NASCAR Photo)

Todd Bodine held off a fierce late-race challenge from Kyle Busch and Johnny Benson to win the season-opening Chevy Silverado 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race Friday night at Daytona International Speedway. It was Bodine's first victory at Daytona. Bodine outfoxed pole-sitter Erik Darnell during the race's final pit stop on Lap 86 to take a lead he would never surrender, bringing his Lumber Liquidators Toyota Tundra across the start-finish line 0.077 seconds over Busch's NOS Energy Drink Toyota. Benson drove from the 35th starting position to finish third, while David Starr was fourth in the Red Horse Racing Tundra, making it an all-Toyota sweep of the top four positions. Rounding out the top five was Rick Crawford in the Power Stroke Diesel by International Ford. "This is my 20th year coming to this speedway," said an exuberant Bodine, who was joined in victory lane by brother Geoffrey, the 1986 Daytona 500 winner. "I came here three years as a crew member, 17 years as a driver. Finished second and third, crashed hard, burned a couple times. Finally!" (Photo Credit: Jamie Squire/Getty Images)
