Three-Truck Tangle Puts Us Under Red

05-25-2007  2:20 pm

Three trucks tangled just moments ago to put us under the red flag. Rick Crawford and Tim Cowen all got crossed up in turns three and four and Willie Allen came to a stop at the bottom of the track to expertly avoid a crash. None of the drivers involved had any damage and all drove off to the attention of their crews.

Pop up Shower Ends Final Practice

A shower popped up just west of the track and has arrived here, dropping some rain and forcing the premature end of the final practice. Mike Skinner, Jack Sprague, Ron Hornaday, Johnny Benson, and Matt Crafton were the top five in the final session. We'll have a complete results sheet posted to the event bot on the main page soon.

Dry at MMP

05-25-2007  4:17 pm

After that brief shower that ended practice about 10 minutes early, we've been clear and dry here at Mansfield. There is a chance that a stray shower could appear again before qualifying, but as of now the track is dry and we are a go for Live! Bud Pole Qualifying at 6:30 pm ET.

Another Popup Shower Dampens MMP

05-25-2007  4:47 pm

There is still about two hours before we roll for the pole for the Ohio 250, but another brief shower has damped the track surface and sent teams and fans scrambling for cover. The showers that have popped up have been very brief and have moved through very quickly. All we need is a brief window for Live! Bud Pole Qualifying, which in the past has run for about 45 minutes.

Good Morning from MMP

05-26-2007  9:30 am

Good morning from Mansfield Motorsports Park! The fans are pouring into the speedway for the annual Fan Walk down on the track as the teams start their preparation for today's Ohio 250. The skies are overcast but it is dry for now and everyone has a positive attitude that we will race today. There is a 30-percent chance of small pop-up showers, but no real chance of any day-long soaking rain. We'll preview the race and then your's truly will participate in pre-race ceremonies including driver introductions and a very special presentation on behalf of Mansfield Motorsports Park and TruckSeries.com.

We'll have all the action during the Ohio 250 as well, so stay with us.

Ohio 250 Race Updates 1-10

05-26-2007  1:09 pm

10. Lap 15 - Restart. Skinner leads. We are green for one lap before rain starts to fall. Second yellow of the day is out.

9. Lap 14 - One to go signal given.

8. Lap 9 - Musgrave spins in two and Smith spins to avoid. Caution out for the first time. Skinner lead Benson, Crawford, Bodine, Kvapil, Cook, Fike, Darnell, Hornaday, Crafton, Sprague, Bires, Rogers, Schrader, Clanton, Setzer, Allen, Kreyer, Fontaine, Starr, Butler, Mathews, Kinser, Hamlin, McCumbee, White, Sauter, Pope, Gaughan, Bjorklund, Riethmeyer, Lester, Musgrave, Bell, and Cowen. Smith is the only driver one lap down.

7. Lap 7 - Skinner catches Cowen to put the first truck one lap down.

6. Lap 3 - Bell spins in turn 2, no yellow.

5. Skinner leads on the start as Benson and Crawford dice for second.

4. Field is now joining into 18 rows of 2. Skinner will elect to start from the outside on the initial start.

3. The field is rolling. All trucks have moved from the grid. We will set the 35 mph pit road speed. The No. 49 of Bradley Riethmeyer is showing some smoke from the pipes as he makes his first pace lap.

2. The jet blowers are ready for the last sweep around the track before we roll. Ohio Attorney General Mark Dann will wave the green flag.

1. Engines have been cranked and 36 trucks are ready to roll from the grid for four pace laps around the Mansfield Motorsports Park halfmile.

Ohio 250 Race Updates 11-20

05-26-2007  3:30 pm

20. Still 23 laps on the board. Running order is Skinner, Benson, Crawford, Bodine, Kvapil, Cook, Fike, Darnell, Hornaday, Crafton, Sprague, Bires, Rogers, Clanton, Schrader, Setzer, Allen, Kreyer, Fontaine, Starr, Butler, Mathews, Kinser, Hamlin, McCumbee, White, Sauter, Pope, Gaughan, Bjorklund, Riethmeyer, Lester, Musgrave, Bell, Cowen, and Smith.

19. Engines have been refired on pit road. Jet dryers are finishing up their last lap around the bottom of the track to ensure the groove is as close to racing condition as can be. Skies have brightened considerably and we might have a chance at getting some green flag running in.

18. Word from NASCAR control is we are about five minutes from the command to refire engines. That command should come at about 5:45 pm ET.

17. If yesterday's qualifying is any indication, the early laps once we go back to green flag racing should be filled with slipping and sliding. The jet residue on the track combined with a green track and hard tires will mean a handful for the 36 drivers.

16. The track is about 80 percent dry, with just the bottom groove still damp. The drivers have been called to their trucks and we should refire the engines shortly.

15. We are under red flag conditions. The rain has been heavy for the past 20 minutes, but radar shows there is little precipitation behind the current shower. The track and NASCAR are committed to getting the race in today, and the lights are already on so once the rain stops we can get the track dried and back under way as quickly as possible.

14. Lap 22 - No one has come to the pits. Running order is unchanged from prior to the red flag.

13. Lap 20 - Trucks are rolling. Red flag time is 2 hours, 10 minutes, 55 seconds.

12. Engines have been refired. The trucks will roll back on to the track to assist in finishing the track drying process.
