Event Schedule
Good Morning from Atlanta
03-16-2007 8:44 am
Good morning from Atlanta Motor Speedway. It is a gray and wet morning with last night's rain turning into a steady drizzle this morning. It is very wet here at the track and with practice slated to start in less than 30 minutes, it is obvious to everyone here we will be delayed. NASCAR has not indicated what the schedule will be once the weather does clear, but it is anticipated that the weather will make a turn for the better in the late morning/early afternoon. Based on previous experience, with just 35 trucks on site, it is a likely possibility that if the scheduled practice is washed out this morning that qualifying will be canceled and the teams will be given an hour of practice in its place. We'll be here throughout the day to track down the stories in the garage while we wait out the rain and cover all of the action on track once we get started.

Today's Original Track Schedule
03-16-2007 9:28 am
We are just two minutes away from the scheduled start of practice. It is still raining, so that will obviously not happen. Here is what the track schedule for the NCTS looked like before weather threw a monkey wrench in our plans:
9:30 - 10:30 am ET: NCTS Practice
11:50 - 12:20 pm ET: NCTS Rookie Practice
12:30 - 1:30 pm ET: NCTS Final Practice
5:15 pm ET: Live! Bud Pole Qualifying

Jet Dryers on Track
03-16-2007 9:43 am
The rain has come to a stop (for now) and the jet blowers have fired up and made their way onto the speedway. The radar shows one more small band of light rain coming, but it has been dissipating as it's moving in closer to AMS. While we are behind schedule, if the rain stays away and the track dries we could be on track in as little as 90 minutes.
Skies Darkening
03-16-2007 11:03 am
The jet dryers are on the track and are making significant progress, however the skies have darkened considerably in the last few moments. We'll update the weather shortly, and we're still trying to get an update on the schedule updates due to the weather.
Bodine Under the Weather
03-16-2007 11:40 am
Defending race winner and 2006 series champion Todd Bodine is under the weather here this weekend. Bodine is suffering from a head cold, and is taking it easy in the team transporter while we are under a weather delay. The best cure for a racecar driver not feeling well is to get behind the wheel, so no doubt Bodine is wanting to get buckled in and get after it.
Rain Moving Out of the Area
03-16-2007 11:50 am
Weather.com forecast for Hampton, Georgia
The radar shows all of the showers in the area have finally moved east of the racetrack and the jet dryers are still hard at work trying to get the speedway ready for the first on-track action of the day. Weather forecasts call for the clouds to dissipate as the day goes on, but the temperatures will drop from the low 60s throughout the day and into the 40s come race time.
Headed to the Garage...
03-16-2007 12:00 pm
We are going to head back to the garage to get some more TruckShots! images and to see if we can poke our heads in some of the transporters and get a word with some drivers as we sit out this weather delay. We will return shortly with more updates...
Practice Slated for 12:30 pm ET
03-16-2007 12:07 pm
NASCAR has just informed us in the media center that Truck Series practice will go off at 12:30 pm ET. We will update the rest of the schedule as information is made invailable.
Ballew Team Mourning
03-16-2007 12:22 pm
Billy Ballew Motorsports is mourning the loss of Ronnie Swann, a close friend of team owner Billy Ballew. Swann's family will be joining the team for the race this evening.
"Ronnie was a good friend of mine since 1981 and a big support of this team," Ballew said. "He will be missed this weekend. We are racing tonight with him in our hearts and dedicate our race tonight to him."
Revised Schedule
03-16-2007 12:26 pm
Here is the revised schedule for today's NCTS activity at AMS:

7:15 pm ET: NCTS Driver and Crew Chief Meeting
8:45 pm ET: NCTS Driver Introductions

Practice Underway
03-16-2007 12:32 pm

Travis Kvapil leads Todd Bodine, Ted Musgrave, Matt Crafton and Clint Bowyer in the early moments. We will continue to have updates throughout practice, and we'll talk to as many of the top runners as we can afterwards.
Red for Debris
03-16-2007 1:07 pm
NASCAR has spotted a piece of debris in the second turn and has dispatched the safety crew to pick it up. After a quick check of the track, the trucks are again rolling out onto the speedway.

Off to the Garage...
03-16-2007 1:50 pm
Plans changed with the quick start of practice earlier, but we're going to make a post-practice run through the garage to get the skinny on what happened on the track and get the opinion of some of the quickest in the abbreviated session. We'll return with more updates shortly.

Look to the right side of the TrackSideLive! page to the audio player and click on it to listen to our exclusive audio from the garage area here at Atlanta. We met up with Rick Crawford this morning and talked about his 250th career start and racing here at Atlanta, then followed it up with a conversation with Steve Park who tells us he is actively looking for a ride in the Truck Series. After practice concluded, we met up with Mike Skinner and talked about how good his truck is here in practice, and if he can keep it on during the race this evening. We also talked to Dennis Setzer, who has been under the radar so far in 2007 but looks to break out here this weekend. We also talked to Georgia resident and top finishing rookie at Daytona Joey Clanton and talked about how his truck is here so far and what he's been up to while not driving full time the past couple of years.
SPEED Preview
03-16-2007 3:29 pm
Also in the audio player is our weekly SPEED preview with Ray Dunlap. We talk to Ray about what to expect tonight on the racetrack and also what we can expect during the SPEED broadcast, which starts this evening at 8:30 pm ET.
Coil Binding Keeps Bliss Off Track
03-16-2007 3:31 pm
Mike Bliss only made a couple of laps on the track in the practice session, his track time limited due to issues with the coil binding setup tried by crew chief Barry Dodson.
"I tried to coil bind and it didn't work so I just called a time out and brought him in," Dodson said. "We're going to go back to a conventional setup. We have a pretty good notebook here and Mike won here last fall so we should be okay once we get to the first pitstop. We're going to have to fix the splitter, but the guys can get it done."

Lafferty Motorsports to Test Matt Poole
03-16-2007 8:54 pm
Lafferty Motorsports, owned by Chris Lafferty of Concord, is proud to announce that Matt Poole has successfully completed his first test with our organization. Lafferty Motorsports fields an entry in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck series as well as the ARCA Remax series. Lafferty Motorsports is a subsidiary of Lafferty Engine Creations a nationally recognized leader in combustion technology. LEC is known for being one of the best engine building companies in NASCAR.
Lafferty Motorsports, through the guidance of Chris Lafferty and his crew is giving Matt Poole his introduction into racing through their Driver Development program. Matt Poole is “living his dream” of being a race car driver, with a unique approach to the opportunity. Matt is honoring the memory of loved ones lost. His mother, Peggy Poole passed away from a sudden heart attack in January, 2003. More recently, in May of 2005, one of his dearest friends, Tonya Schultz, was brutally murdered by her husband, who killed her in front of their two young children. After enduring these tragedies in his life, Matt began to actively pursue his dream of racing. He has dedicated any potential race winnings to be donated to the American Heart Association in his mother’s memory, and to the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Tonya’s memory. The donations will be made on behalf of Matt, and his car owner Chris Lafferty, and potential sponsors.
“These tragic events are what have given me my drive and determination” said Matt. “I always told Mom as a kid that I wanted to be a race car driver, but I went different directions in life and never got the opportunity until now. I wanted to honor their memories, and not let them be forgotten, so I decided to actively pursue my dream and do something to help others. I had a lot against me, with experience being the biggest barrier to face, but I was not going to give up on my dream. I can’t thank Chris Lafferty enough for giving me this opportunity.”
After several sessions with a driving school, Matt’s desire and drive to race was at an all time high. After coming across Matt’s website Chris Lafferty expressed an interest in helping Matt achieve his goals. On February 3, 2007, Matt traveled to Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, NC for his first test in Lafferty’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck. Lafferty was impressed with Matt’s first test session.
“Our development program is very rigorous, most people really do not understand what it takes to be a NASCAR driver.” Chris added, “ I would like to see Matt achieve his goals and dreams, he is an honest hard working guy.” Later Chris added that he was very impressed with the way Matt listened on and off the race track. Chris Further added that while Matt was accepted into the driver development program he would soon be in jeopardy of not meeting the criteria for becoming a full fledged development driver if he was not able to continue to come to North Carolina for testing. We are pleading with sponsors to help Matt with the costs of coming to North Carolina for testing.
“My only concern, I obviously have a lot of preparation to do in my future, but I feel in time and with the leadership of Lafferty’s organization, we will be able to proudly promote a sponsor. I will not be happy until I raise that trophy and look up to the sky and say “Mom and Tonya, this is for you…I did it” That will be the culmination of my racing dream coming true”
Potential sponsors are cordially invited to visit Matt Poole’s website, w
ww.crossbowmotorsports.com
, or contact Matt Poole at (410) 251 – 2877. You may also contact Chris Lafferty at Lafferty Motorsports in Concord, NC at (704) 795 – 5375 for more information on how your company can go to Victory Lane with Matt Poole.
DavidStarr.com Back Online
03-16-2007 8:59 pm
A new team, a new teammate and a new sponsor meant it was time for a new web site. Davidstarr.com has become one of the most popular stops on the web for NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series fans and after being down for a couple of weeks is now back on line. The new site is loaded with new features, including the most up to date pictures and stories of David and his new MaxxForce by International Diesel Team. Just like Starr’s team the site is “always performing” - 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In order to know more about the team you’d have to be on the team. Log on and give it a test drive.
