The 3rd Annual Chevy Bodine Bobsled Challenge presented by Whelen Engineering will be aired on SPEED January 20th and 27th. Boris Said has been bobsledding longer than any of the other drivers at the 3rd Annual Chevy Bodine Bobsled Challenge presented by Whelen Engineering, but he's still learning new tricks. He utilized some of what he picked up Saturday morning to successfully defend his title. In his second championship run, Said shaved more than 1.5 seconds off his time to beat L.W. Miller and three other finalists. Said's two runs were 52.12 and 50.53 seconds, for a total time of 1:42.65. Miller, the 2007 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion, posted the fastest first run time at 52.11 and finished second overall at 1:43.37. (Todd Bissonette/rtbphoto.com for NASCAR Photo)

Boris Said used a borrowed sled to prove he's still the man to beat at the 3rd Annual Chevy Bodine Bobsled Challenge presented by Whelen Engineering. Said topped the time charts for the two qualifying runs, which set the lineup for Saturday's championship runs. The field of NASCAR and NHRA drivers practiced Friday morning and then took a pair of qualifying runs Friday afternoon. The combined times of those two runs ranked the drivers, with Saturday's order going from slowest to fastest. It means Said will be the last one out of the gate. He was ninth-fastest in his own sled during the first qualifying run. He borrowed the sled of NHRA driver Morgan Lucas and posted the fastest time of the day at 53.23 seconds - beating Lucas' second-fastest time of 53.96. Said's time converts to 94.48 km/h. Richard Johns won't be disappointed if there aren't many gifts for him under the tree this holiday season - not after securing a seat in the No. 60 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series entry for the 2008-2009 seasons late last week. "They say dreams come true during the holidays, but this is way beyond anything I could have wished for this year," said Johns. "It's like when I got my first go kart as a kid. At first you can't believe it, then you can't wait to drive it." Johns got the opportunity to wheel the Wyler-RacingToyota Tundra this season thanks to a solid NASCAR Nationwide Series campaign last year and a productive off-season that allowed the Lawrenceville, GA driver to bring sponsor MY HAVE FUN - America's Family Internet Portal www.havfun.com to the table. Willie Allen, the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) Rookie of the Year, will not return to the #13 ThorSport Racing truck for the 2008 NCTS season. ThorSport Racing has terminated their agreement with Allen for 2008. "We are currently looking for other opportunities for next season," explains Allen. "We had a successful year with ThorSport Racing but I'm hearing another driver is bringing in a substantial amount of money. I have a letter exercising ThorSport's option on my contract for 2008, so I don't know how this could happen. I hope that we can put something together with a team in one of NASCAR's top three divisions very soon." (Worth Canoy/VPS Motorimages Photo)

Sears' Decision Will Create Branding Opportunity With One Of NASCAR's National Series -
The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing has begun marketing entitlement sponsorship of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series beginning with the 2009 season. This follows a decision by Sears that its Craftsman brand will forgo its sponsorship rights following the 2008 season. "Craftsman has been a great, longstanding partner and intends to remain in the sport," said Steve Phelps, NASCAR Chief Marketing Officer, in a joint announcement with Sears. "The current series name will continue through the 2008 season with the same great commitment Craftsman has demonstrated throughout its 13-year history as the series' entitlement sponsor." "The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series represents some of the world's best racing; the season championship has been determined in the final race of the year in 12 of 13 seasons - including 2007," Phelps said. "The series continues to attract some of NASCAR's most avid fans because of its intense, side-by-side competition." (Steve Keller/TruckSeries.com Photo)

Jim Pedley with The Kansas City Star is reporting that Craftsman will be out as title sponsor of NASCAR's truck-racing series beginning with the 2009 season, The Star has learned. No new title sponsor has been found to replace Craftsman, but a search will soon be getting under way, said Steve Phelps, marketing director for NASCAR. He said he believes NASCAR will have little problem finding a new title sponsor because of the increasing popularity of the series. "We haven't started a search, per se," Phelps said. "But what we want to try to do is identify companies that we believe would be a great fit for the series and a great fit for the fan base. So we'll get out there in 2008, the new year, and start discussions with new companies. No real timelines on when it's going to get done. But it will obviously get done."

With an average Total Viewer count of 686,000, the Truck Series also saw impressive growth in younger demos, posting its best numbers in Men 18-34, Men 18-49 and Men 25-54. "The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series continues to be one of the true cornerstones of the SPEED motor sports lineup," said SPEED President Hunter Nickell. "The series always delivers great racing, cool storylines and great championship battles. To have champions like (Mike) Skinner and (Ron) Hornaday taking it down to the last race of the season in such dramatic fashion was what we've come to expect from this series and we're committed to its continued growth on SPEED."
