According to a team statement, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Jon Wood was treated and released from a local hospital this morning following a single vehicle accident on his way to work. Wood's pickup truck has a modified suspension system with pneumatic air bags on the chassis. Eyewitnesses reported that shortly after 8:00 a.m. this morning they witnessed a failure of his right front air bag, causing the truck to veer off the roadway into the woods. He was treated for a cut on his head and a bruising on his arm, but was released shortly thereafter. (VPS Motorimages Photo)

At the mid-point of the 2007 season, one thing is crystal-clear as far as the championship race is concerned. To become a champion, a competitor will have to beat a champion - here's why: Four former titleholders - Mike Skinner, Ron Hornaday Jr., Travis Kvapil (No. 6 K&N Engineering Ford) and Todd Bodine (No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota) occupy the first four spots in the point standings. While there are dozens of officials working at each and every NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, few are as visible as the chief starter. From the waving of the green flag to start the race to bringing the winner home with the checkered and everything in between, the individual perched in the starter's stand outwardly controls the flow of the race. From 2003 through the first 12 races of 2007, the individual in charge of waving those flags over NCTS races was Dennis James, a long-time NASCAR official and a close friend to virtually everyone in the garage. To many, a Cowboy conjures up memories of the OK Corral, gunslingers, rustlers and cowpokes. Even today, the fading image of the Marlboro man that cleverly marketed tobacco products around the world has waned under changing social standards. The face of the Cowboy is due in large part by the influence of advertising and Hollywood. Cowboy characters made famous by actors like John Wayne. Like so many things Hollywood, there tends to be more more fiction than fact. Enter a new era for the Cowboy. (PRCA Photo)

Fresh off his second win of the season, Travis Kvapil, driver of the No. 6 K&N Filters Ford F-150, is eager to get back to racing on July 14 for the Built Ford Tough 225 presented by the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers race at Kentucky Speedway. Kvapil participated in a teleconference in Monday, and discussed, among other things, his recent success.
When things are going well for you, as they are for you right now, with a break in the schedule, wouldn't you rather be in the truck?
"For sure. Let me tell you what. Earlier in the year, people are familiar with the truck series; the schedule is really broken up."

Some guys will do anything to get into racing. For Milt Bishop, team transport driver and raceday spotter for the No. 9 Team ASE Toyota Tundra driven by Ted Musgrave in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, that meant getting down and dirty at a very early age. "I could see The Milwaukee Mile from the roof of my house," said Bishop, a Wisconsin native who now lives in Mooresville, NC. "I kept hearing the cars and when I was around eight years old, I wound up finding a way into the track through the water displacement tunnels, which is a nice way of say I crawled through the sewers. The No. 6 K&N Engineering Ford team, one of three Roush Fenway entries in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, definitely was underachieving through much of the early season - at least compared to Mark Martin's achievements in 2006. June, however, has seen a huge turnaround for the Mike Beam-led unit. Kvapil's O'Reilly 200 victory was the Wisconsin veteran's second in three races. Kvapil's performance marked his sixth consecutive finish in the top 10, compared with just one finish - third at Daytona - higher than 13th in the season's first six races. (VPS Motorimages Photo)
