Stacy Compton has appeared in two less races than all but one driver ahead of him in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series standings. Yet, the wily veteran still holds a top-20 ranking with five drivers behind him having more starts. His 10th place at Texas Motor Speedway in the No. 21 Bush's Baked Beans Ford last Friday night gave him the second one of the year. Even though the finish and points standing looks great on paper, it still isn't enough to make Compton a happy driver. In typical competitive-driver fashion, the native of Grit, Va. commented on his latest top-10 endeavor; which wasn't for lack of effort on anyone's part. (VPS Motorimages Photo)

The last 2 races for Rick Crawford and his Circle Bar/Power Stroke Diesel by International team have produced the worst finishes of 2007 with some of the team's best trucks. They cut a tire leading the race in Mansfield, then tangled with a lapped truck at Dover running 2nd. That was the bad news, the good news was their Ford F-150 was upfront in both races. The 2007 season had gotten off to a rough start for David Star and his International MaxxForce Diesel team. When they had good trucks they had bad luck and bad finishes. It's been exactly one year and 25 races since defending series champion Todd Bodine celebrated a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win in Victory Lane. His last win came in epic fashion, defeating Mike Skinner at Texas Motor Speedway on the final lap after rallying from a one-lap deficit in the middle stages of the race. Although he earned the series title, Bodine freely admits his team stumbled over the final stages of the 2006 season. Those stumbles are officially history as Bodine drove the No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota to victory in the Sam's Town 400 again in come-from-behind fashion. (Ronda Greer Photo)

Todd Bodine made a remarkable comeback from an early engine problem to win the Sam's Town 400 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race Friday at Texas Motor Speedway. Bodine started from the pole but slowed on the 35th lap and fell from third to 18th. He made several pit stops and his Germain Racing team thought it was a carburetor problem, but were never able to find it. "We think maybe some trash got in the jet," Bodine said, "but we didn't find it. Somehow, it cleaned itself out." Bodine's Toyota had to race from the back of the field in the 1.5-mile track and steadily climbed into the top 10. (VPS Motorimages Photo)

Thirty is an old newspaper term denoting end of story. For Toyota and Todd Bodine, 30 represents a successful mid-point in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competition. Bodine's victory in Friday night's Sam's Town 400 was Toyota's 30th win. Bodine, of course, drives the No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota. (VPS Motorimages Photo)

At the start of the 2007 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season, Tim Sauter felt that his new team at Green Light Racing would be capable of running competitively in the top-15 each and every race. For Joey Clanton, the difference between a Top-10 finish and a 17th-place finish was a flip-of-a-coin decision. A correct guess would have given the driver of the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford a chance to win last Friday night’s Sam’s Town 200 at the Texas Motor Speedway. A bad guess means finishing a couple laps down.

Brendan Gaughan brought his favorite race truck to his favorite race track this weekend in hopes of giving his South Point Racing team a solid finish and a boost in the championship points standings. But once again, bad luck bit the Las Vegas-based race team – and Gaughan left Texas Motor Speedway with a wrecked race truck and a 24th place finish.

They say everything is bigger in Texas and it looked like Travis Kvapil and the No. 6 K & N Filters team were going to come up with a big win. With just five laps to go, Kvapil was leading when his big win turned into a bigger disappointment after Todd Bodine spun him into sixth place and right out of victory lane. (VPS Motorimages Photo)

Matt Crafton hopes the high banks and fast track of Texas Motor Speedway will serve as a turnaround from recent misfortune in the Sam’s Town 400 on Friday night. “It bothers the heck out of you to run well and not have the strong finishes to show for it, which was the case the last couple of weeks,” Crafton said.

Mike Skinner was again the man to beat in Bud Pole Qualifying for the Sam's Town 400 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. But unlike the previous six Truck races, someone was actually able to turn a lap quicker than Skinner in time trials meaning the 1995 series champion's run at his own record for most consecutive poles has come to an end. Todd Bodine, who defeated Skinner here on the final lap to win this race last year, again proved to be the foil by running just 0.081 seconds quicker to earn his first pole of the 2007 season. Bodine was the fastest driver in both practice sessions earlier in the afternoon and backed it up in qualifying. (Ronda Greer Photo)

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is just one of four major racing series that graces the highbanks of Texas Motor Speedway. The Trucks share the stage with the Indy Cars in June, then are the opening act of a tripleheader weekend with the NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series cars in November. Even with all of the racing action that takes place at the "Great American Speedway," the Texas fans continue to turn out and support the Truck Series in what is always one of the biggest crowds of the season. The 60,000-plus people in attendance on Friday night for the Sam's Town 400 can expect some of the hardest racing at some of the highest speeds the series will turn all season long. Joey Clanton isn’t asking for much – just an improvement by one finishing position at this Friday night’s Sam’s Town 400 at the Texas Motor Speedway. Under normal circumstances, that’s not an unusually difficult goal, especially for the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford. But following a second-place finish last week at Dover, Del., an improvement means the Wood Brothers/JTG Racing Ford has to wind up in Victory Lane.
