Coming off a second-place run at Mansfield Motorsports Park last week, Jack Sprague and the Wyler Racing team were excited about entering Dover, Delaware for Friday afternoon’s running of the AAA Insurance 200, but “The Monster Mile” lived up to its name after a first-lap wreck cost the team a repeat performance.

Ron Hornaday Jr. survived some early chaos, then outlasted his strongest competition to visit victory lane for the second time in three races, winning the AAA Insurance 200 Craftsman Truck Series race at Dover International Speedway on Friday afternoon. Hornaday beat out surprising Stacy Compton by 7.009 seconds in a race where just nine trucks finished on the lead lap. The concrete surface at Dover International Speedway provided the right mortar mix for Terry Cook and his HT Motorsports team as they rolled to an eighth-place finish in the AAA Insurance 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race Friday.

Clint Bowyer started the AAA Insurance 200 from the second position. But, before the drivers could even get a full corner of racing under their belt, Mike Skinner, the pole sitter, lost the handling on his machine, and slid into Bowyer’s truck.

Skinner and his No. 5 Toyota Tundra team have been on a roll so far this season and saw no reason to stop that streak at the series 300th race at Dover’s Monster Mile track this past weekend. Going into the first practice session on Thursday afternoon, Skinner and his Tundra flew straight to the top of the charts.

Dover International Speedway - affectionately known to drivers and fans alike as the Monster Mile - has always been one of Ron Hornaday's favorite tracks. But prior to Friday's AAA Insurance 200, he had never driven into the hallowed grounds of the Winner's Circle at the concrete one-mile oval. But with a resurgent performance over the final 70 miles, Hornaday tamed the Monster and scored his 31st career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win in the series' 300th race. With a modest tone in his voice, Mike Skinner downplayed his chances at scoring his sixth straight NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Bud Pole Award following the conclusion of practice for the AAA Insurance 200 on Thursday afternoon at Dover International Speedway. Kevin Hamlin was the Raybestos Rookie of the Race in the May 26 Ohio 250 at Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Park. Hamlin scored a 10th-place finish, his first top-10 of the 2007 season. He grabbed Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the first time this season.

Johnny Benson started from the top-10 and finished strong in the sixth position at Dover International Speedway. “I really like Dover. It is definitely a get up and go track, but you also can not overdrive the track. You have to get into the corner good where the truck does not slide out from underneath you, and you can not get back into the gas," said Benson.

Mike Skinner led 85 of 200 laps in his first NCTS start in 2004 at Dover. He went a lap down late in the race but still battled back to finish in the top five. “I am looking forward to racing at Dover. It is a very challenging track and your luck can go either way there," said Skinner.

The free NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champions autograph session will take place after truck qualifying, which is now scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 1. Fans can attend the free autograph session from 12:15 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Craftsman display in the Fan Zone, located outside of Turn 4 at the Monster Mile.

Warm, sunny weather, "Welcome Race Fans" banners, and an oversized, hand-carved number "8" are all signs that race weekend at Dover International Speedway is right around the corner. The monster awakens officially for the June 1-3, 2007 race weekend, and NASCAR's brightest stars will soon take to the one-mile concrete oval.
