Good Morning from Gateway!

04-29-2006  9:06 am

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Entry List: Gateway Good morning from the banks of the Mighty Mississippi here at Gateway International Raceway! There are 39 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series teams on hand to compete for 36 starting positions for tonight's Dodge Ram Tough 200, round number five of the 2006 season. TruckSeries.com will have all of the action from practice, qualifying (weather permitting, of course - afterall, we are at Gateway in the spring!) and tonight's 160-lap clash. Check back regularly for updates, pictures, and of course, garage audio from all of the newsmakers.

Gateway Weather

04-29-2006  9:13 am

Well, if it's late April in Madison, Illinois and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series teams are at Gateway International, that must mean we are fighting some of Mother Nature's wettest. If you guessed we'd be socked under heavy cloudcover and dealing with some rain, you'd be right!

As of 9:20 am ET, there are some rain drops falling here at the track and radar shows we will be dealing with the wet stuff for a few hours yet.  However, if things keep moving the way that they are, we could be looking at a break in the weather in plenty of time to get in practice, possibly qualifying, and tonight's race.

Here is a look at the radar shot, image courtesty Weather.com:

Entry List Updates

04-29-2006  9:19 am

There have been some changes to the routine weekly entry list here at Gateway this weekend. Here are the changes, as we see them:

Robert Richardson's truck has changed from a Dodge to a Chevrolet starting this weekend in St. Louis. Also, the owner of his truck has changed from Jim Smith to Robert Richardson, Sr.

Kelly Sutton is back, healed up from her Atlanta injuries, and behind the wheel of the No. 02 Chevrolet.

Scott Lagasse is back behind the wheel of the No. 04 Dodge.

David Ragan slides behind the wheel of the No. 6 Ford for Roush Racing, the first of 11 races he's scheduled to run in that truck in substitution for Mark Martin. Martin continues to lead the driver points, and Roush leads the owner points category with the No. 6 truck.

Justin Martz hops in the No. 07 Chevrolet for Green Light Racing, while Boris Jurkovich takes over the team's No. 08 Chevrolet.

Mike Bliss is here in the No. 16 Chevrolet as usual, but instead of the normal red colors the truck is bright blue and decked out in TKO Graphix livery.

Nick Tucker is entered in the No. 31 Brevak Racing Dodge, the first time that combination has been with us so far in 2006.

Ryan Moore is entered in the No. 40 Key Motorsports Chevrolet, scheduled for practice and qualifying, while Chad Chaffin is participating in today's Busch Series race in Talladega. Moore may have a chance to race if Chaffin doesn't make it back.

Kraig Kinser has used a couple of numbers so far in 2006, and adds a third one this weekend at his team switches over to the No. 46 on his Chevrolets.

J.R. Patton is here in the No. 63 Mittler Bros. Ford.

John Stout is also entered in the No. 91 Stellar-Quest Racing Chevrolet.

Condolences to the Keselowski Family

04-29-2006  9:32 am

While the Keselowski family and the No. 29 K-Automotive Fords have not been with us since the second race of the season in California, they are still very much a part of the NCTS community. Their family lost its matriarch this week with the passing of Roberta Keselowski, mother of Bob and Ron Keselowski, and grandmother to the next generation of Keselowski racers Brian, who races in the ARCA REMAX Series, and Brad, who has raced in the NCTS. Roberta passed on April 25 at 84 years of age. The funeral will be held today (4/29) at the Church of the Nazarene located at 16 Mile Road and Van Dyke Road.

Jet Dryers on Track

04-29-2006  10:00 am

A break in the rain has given NASCAR and GIR officials reason to fire up the jet dryers and start the track drying process. The wind has kicked up, and if the weather pattern holds we might see some trucks on track in a couple of hours.

Hearty Fans in the Stands

04-29-2006  10:09 am

Even with a dire forecast for the immediate future here at the track, there are some hearty (crazy?) race fans in the stands. A quick unofficial count has 10 people in three groups staking out their seats for today's action.

Craftsman for a Cure Event Update

04-29-2006  10:20 am

Craftsman for a Cure - May 23, 2006 Three more NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers have committed to be part of the 'Craftsman For a Cure' on Tuesday, May 23 at NASCAR SpeedPark in Concord, N.C. Tickets are on sale now.  Kasey Kahne, Brian Vickers and former NEXTEL Cup champion Kurt Busch have been added to the driver lineup which already includes a variety of drivers from the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck Series.  'Craftsman For a Cure' - a charity event hosted by Craftsman Motorsports and Bobby Hamilton Racing - will give race fans the opportunity to meet and race fender-to-fender with some of their favorite NASCAR drivers while also helping out two very important charities, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and the Victory Junction Gang Camp.

Streak Ends for Sutton

04-29-2006  10:39 am

Today marks the first time in Kelly Sutton's career that her father and team owner, Ed Sutton, has not been in attendance. Ed is recovering back in North Carolina from the knee replacement surgery he recently had, and his wife Carol (Kelly's mother) also did not make the trip.

This the second streak that has ended for Team COPAXONE in 2006, as Kelly's knee injury during practice at Atlanta resulted in her missing a race for which she had qualified for the first time ever. This weekend's event at Gateway will be Kelly's first race since California in late February.

Rain Returns at Gateway

04-29-2006  11:56 am

Track drying efforts have come to a halt as the showers have returned at Gateway International Raceway. The wind is swirling around the speedway, changing directions so it's difficult to pinpoint where the weather is coming from and where it's going. We'll keep the weather updated.

Who Needs to Race In?

04-29-2006  11:58 am

Here are the nine drivers that need to make the field based on speed:

No. 1 - Robert Richardson
No. 06 - Chad McCumbee
No. 25 - Boston Reid
No. 31 - Nick Tucker
No. 40 - Ryan Moore
No. 46 - Kraig Kinser
No. 59 - Steve Park
No. 63 - J.R. Patton
No. 91 - John Stout

If we don't have a chance to qualify this afternoon, Tucker, Patton, and Stout would be the teams to miss the field due to qualifying attempts. Every other team has attempted each race on the schedule, while Tucker and Stout are attempting their first races of the season. Patton's MB Motorsports team has attempted three races, but would still miss the field.

MB Motorsports Averts Disaster in Fire

04-29-2006  12:04 pm

A fire at the Mittler Bros. compound destroyed a building used race shop space and for storage recently. The NCTS equipment was not kept in that building, but one of the crew members stored his late model equipment and lost three cars and all of his pit equipment in the fire.

"We were lucky," said Bill Politsch. "We told him as it was happening, look, it least it's not your house. You can go home tonight. It's all insured. Since the fire he's had offers to come drive for other people, and it looks like even though it was a real bad situation, something good will come of it."

More Teams Moving Towards Evernham's Structure?

04-29-2006  12:09 pm

Ray Evernham has been very vocal about his switch in team structure that has three people in charge of each of his teams, each overseeing one aspect of the team's operation.

Kevin Harvick Inc. will have two people on top of the pit box here this weekend calling the shots for Ron Hornaday. Lance Deiters, the team's shop foreman, and Stacy Johnson, director of competition, will be atop the pit box making calls in tonight's race.

Sights and Sounds

04-29-2006  12:41 pm

Look to the Sights and Sounds Box for updated TruckShots from the garage area, including some pics from last night's pit road autograph session.

We have tracked down several drivers, which on a day like today can be a real challenge.

Kerry Earnhardt, No. 13 Chevrolet: "We ned to get on the track to see what we have. We have some new shocks and stuff we'd like to try out. I wish it wasn't raining so we can get this race in tonight..."

Mike Bliss, No. 16 Chevrolet: "It's tough. We have a brand new Chevrolet Silverado, and we'd like to make sure there are no bugs. If we have to go cold turkey, I'd like to get in..."

Kelly Sutton, No. 02 Chevrolet: "It's a great feeling. It was tough to sit out. The knee is feeling better..."

Nick Tucker, No. 31 Dodge: "It's a little bit of heartbreak right now because we think we have a good truck. We were in the top 20 and we'd like a chance to improve on it..."

Qualifying Scrubbed

04-29-2006  1:48 pm

NASCAR just announced that Bud Pole Qualifying for the Dodge Ram Tough 200 has been canceled. The field has been set with rookie David Ragan on the pole due to the NASCAR rule book. We'll have a full field lineup, including DNQ's, shortly.

Track Drying Underway

04-29-2006  1:55 pm

Track drying efforts are again underway here at Gateway International Raceway.  Jet dryers and a fleet of safety vehicles are out circulating, doing their best to get the track in shape for some practice before tonight's Dodge Ram Tough 200.

Track Schedule

04-29-2006  2:34 pm

With the weather still in a state of uncertainty, there is no hard-and-fast schedule to update as of this time.  NASCAR continues to hold out hope for a short practice prior to the start of the race, but as of this update there is not so much as a tentative start time to report.  With track drying underway for approximately 30 minutes, we are still likely another 90 minutes away from any track activity.

Tarps Up; Engines Rumbling to Life

04-29-2006  2:39 pm

The teams have started to raise the tarps serving as protective garage doors to keep out the wind and the rain, and the engines are rumbling to life in the garage area.  The wind has really kicked up, which should help track drying efforts and the teams obviously anticipate on-track activity sometime in the near future.

Dodge Ram Tough 200 Qualifying Fast Facts

04-29-2006  2:41 pm

Bud Pole Qualifying was rained out for the first time in 2006; in each of the last two seasons five qualifying sessions were lost due to rain...David Ragan will start from the pole for in the No. 6 Scotts Ford; Ragan has one previous NCTS start at Gateway finishing 19th in 2004...defending race winner Ted Musgrave will roll from second in the No. 9 Team ASE Toyota; Musgrave has two wins at Gateway, both coming after starting from the pole...the last qualifying session lost due to weather was August 5, 2005 at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Pits Being Set Up

04-29-2006  2:44 pm

With qualifying scrubbed, the teams are now moving all of their pit equipment into their pit stalls. With hopes for a short practice prior to the race still very high, there is suddenly a lot of activity here at the speedway.

Spotters Reporting to the Stand

04-29-2006  3:12 pm

The team spotters are slowly making their way across the speedway and up to the spotter's stand.  The stiff breeze has helped track drying efforts as even areas not touched by jet dryers have started to dry as well.  We should see trucks on track very soon.

Practice Schedule Set

04-29-2006  3:25 pm

NASCAR has announced practice for the Dodge Ram Tough 200 is set for 3:45 pm through 5 pm ET.

Trucks Moving to Track

04-29-2006  3:37 pm

The teams have finished their preparations and are now ready for practice to begin.  The first trucks are rolling down pit road and waiting for the green lights to flash on.  We'll have complete coverage of all the action right here on TrackSideLive!

Trucks on Track

04-29-2006  3:53 pm

Virtually the entire starting lineup is out on pit road lined up awaiting their turn at practice laps.  The first trucks have made their way on to the speedway, led my polesitter David Ragan, Erik Darnell, Todd Bodine, and Ted Musgrave.  We'll keep you abreast of all the action as it happens, right here on TrackSideLive.

Quick Red for Debris

04-29-2006  3:56 pm

NASCAR has put out a quick red flag for debris spotted in turn one.  With extremely stiff winds blowing in the faces of the drivers down the frontstretch and down their back on the backstretch, blowing debris could be a problem here the rest of the afternoon and into the evening.

Helmet Problems Slow Park

04-29-2006  4:09 pm

Steve Park was ready to roll out for practice when suddenly he killed the engine and dropped the window net. One of his crewman raced up with a spare helmet which he quickly donned before buckling back up and clamping the window net. Apparently radio difficulties necessitated the last-minute swap.

Red and Black Flags in the Air

04-29-2006  5:18 pm

An uneventful practice session has come to and end as the red and black flags have waved just seconds ago. Skies have darkened considerably in recent moments, and we may have to deal with a brief line of showers prior to the start of the Dodge Ram Tough 200.

Jack Sprague led the session with fellow Toyota driver David Reutimann second. Rick Crawford broke up the Toyota dominance by throwing his Ford into third, with teammates Ted Musgrave and Todd Bodine rounding out the top five.

A complete speed and lap report will be posted to the event box of the main page shortly.

Drivers Meeting Done

04-29-2006  7:09 pm

Pit road speed is 45 mph, the pace truck speed is 50 mph...pit speed is in effect 215 feet before the first box and runs through 75 feet past the last box...the restart point is the double red lines outside turn four...minimum speed is 38.88 seconds...there will be a mandatory caution at lap 25...all trucks must enter the pits in turn three and exit in turn two, using the pit access lanes.

One Last Band...

04-29-2006  7:45 pm

One last band of rain is expected, and it's blowing through right now. There are safety vehicles out trying to keep heat in the track. No word on if the start has been pushed back. The rain that is coming down is not hard, and it doesn't look it will last long.

Good Luck Lance

04-29-2006  7:50 pm

TruckSeries.com wishes all of the best to Lance Davin as he retires from his position as medical liaison for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Lance will spend his weekends at home while spending his working hours in the OR at Halifex Medical Center in Daytona Beach. Best of luck in your new endeavors Lance!

Edwards Sporting a Broken Wing

Wayne Edwards is here this weekend helping Green Light Racing, but he's here sporting a bum shoulder. Edwards had an accident on his dirt bike last week which left him with a separated shoulder. The normal 1/4-inch gap between the shoulder and the collar bone has extended to 1 and 1/4 inches, which will require surgery at the end of the season.

Dodge Ram Tough 200 Race Updates 1-10

04-29-2006  8:03 pm

10. Lap 29 - Bodine takes the lead just before a solo spin off turn two by Sutton.  Caution is out for the third time.  Pit stops are expected by much of the field under this caution.

9. Lap 24 - The field has strung itself out around the track single file, but we should be approaching the mandatory competition caution NASCAR has announced on lap 25. Ragan, Crafton, and Setzer race three wide into three, with Crafton picking up the spot from Ragan.

8. Lap 19 - Restart.  Musgrave still leads Bodine, Sprague, Reutimann, Starr, Crawford, Darnell, Ragan, Skinner, Crafton, Setzer, Benson, Hamilton, Bliss, and Cook the top-15.

7. Lap 16 - Chaffin bounces into the turn one and two wall, flatsiding the right side of his machine. He is the only truck involved and continues on, but the second caution of the night is out.

6. Lap 11 - Restart. Musgrave continues to lead. Bodine now sits second with Sprague third and Reuitmann fourth. Starr makes it a Toyota sweep in fifth.

5. Lap 8 - Park and Peters come together in turn four, with Peters coming out worse for wear. He has heavy right side damage after contact with the wall. Caution is out for the first time tonight.

4. Lap 4 - Ragan has fallen down to 8th from the pole. Sprague is on the march and takes fourth from Darnell. Former winners Cook and Gaughan race side by side for 15th.

3. The wind is still blowing stiffly from turns one and two up through turns three and four. The pace truck pulls in and David Ragan takes the field to the green. Musgrave gets the jump into one and leads off turn two. The field scrambles threwe wide down the backstretch into three. Musgrave leads Reutimann, Darnell, Bodine, and Starr.

2. Charlie Daniels has given the command. Engines have started. Once the trucks roll, we will have at least four pace laps prior to the green.

1. The jet dryers are out on the track trying to keep heat in the surface as it appears we are closing in on the back side of this latest brief ran shower. There is a considerable window once it stops and we should be able to get this thing in tonight.

Dodge Ram Tough 200 Race Updates 11-20

04-29-2006  8:49 pm

20. Lap 84 - Bodine has retaken the lead past halfway.  We are past the official point of the race should weather hit.  Darnell is second with Sprague third. Crawford, Benson, Lester, Musgrave, Reutimann, Setzer and Starr are the rest of the top 10.

19. Lap 68 - Krisiloff and Ambrose drove back to the pits and are okay.  Skinner climbed from his ride and is in the care center, but appears okay as well.  Reutimann continues to lead back under greeb with Bodine, Darnell, Lester, and Crawford the top five.

18. Lap 61 - Pileup on the frontstretch involves Ambrose, Skinner, Krisiloff and Martz.  Ambrose has had the right side ripped off his machine, and Skinner remains parked alongside the inside wall.  Caution six is out.

17. Lap 57 - Reutimann leads as Darnell and Earnhardt scrap it out for second.  Richardson has been looked at and released from the care center.

16. Lap 47 - Reutimann leads with Earnhardt, Darnell, Crocker, Park, Lester, Almirola, Setzer, Bodine, Ragan, Crawford, Sprague, Skinner, benson, and McCumbee on the restart.  Big crash on the restart as Richardson is hard into the inside wall.  Caution is out for the fifth time.

15. Lap 45 - The competition caution comes out.  Reutimann leads lap 45 at the line.  Pit road is a very busy place as only a handful of trucks stay out on the track.

14. Lap 41 - Bodine pulls out to a three-second lead as Musgave, Sprague, and Crawford fight for second.

13. Lap 35 - Sprague dips under Musgrave on the frontstretch and pulls Crawford into a three way battle for second.

12. Lap 34 - Restart.  Bodine and Musgrave start to inch away.  The front four have opened up a significant gap on fifth place.  NASCAR has rescheduled the competition caution to lap 45.

11. Lap 31 - Pit stops are the order of the day.  It's a quicky yellow, so all trucks can come to pit road.  Reutimann is the first driver to come down, with the bulk of the field following.  Bodine and Musgrave stay out.  Bodine leads Musgrave, Sprague, Crawford, Starr, Skinner, Crafton, Benson, Hamilton, Cook, Hornaday, Krisiloff, Ambrose, Lagasse, Gaughan, Reid, Kinser, East, Reutimann, Bliss, Setzer, Martz, Lester, Ragan, Jurkovich, Almirola, Earnhart, Darnell, Richardson, Park, McCumbee, and Sutton as the lead lap trucks.

Dodge Ram Tough 200 Race Updates 21-30

04-29-2006  9:41 pm

30. Lap 141 - The three leaders are nose to tail.  Bodine is hard on Reutimann's bumper.  Caution out for a record extending 12th time this evening.  Jurkovich did a quick 360 in turn four and continued on without making contact.

29. Lap 134 - Bodine is on the march to the front.  He's up to third, passing a handful of trucks since the restart.  Reutimann leads Crawford, Bodine, Musgrave, Cook, Almirola, Hamilton, Sprague, and Benson.

28. Lap 128 - The green comes out, but stays out only for 3/4 of a lap as Park does a snap 360 in turn three after a tap from Hornaday.  Caution 11 is out.

27. Lap 122 - Kinser flat sides his ride coming off turn four.  Green stays out.  A few sprinkles are felt, but nothing serious as of yet.  Ragan pops the fence going into turn one and the caution is out for the 10th time, setting a record for cautions in an NCTS race here at Gateway.

26. Lap 116 - Reutimann, Crawford, Cook, Almirola, East, Crafton, Reid, McCumbee, Jurkovich, Hamilton, Park, Bodine, Musgave, Sprague, Ragan, Benson, Gaughan, Starr, Bliss, Lagasse, Hornaday, Martz, Setzer, Sutton, Crocker, and Kinser are the lead lap trucks.  Restart.  Reutimann leads.

25. Lap 111 - Reutimann leads after pit stops.  Setzer pits at the drop of the green with a soft right rear tire.  He rejoins the race just in front of leader Reutimann and is running hard to stay on the lead lap.  His big break is Crocker's bad break as she smacks the turn one wall.  Crocker was 17th at the time of the crash.  She has serious damage to the rear of her truck and is driving it back to the garage.  Kinser also had a piece of that action, doing some damage to the right side of his ride.

24. Lap 104 - Darnell and Lester get tangled up going into one and crash.  Darnell's truck is severely damaged and he appears to be done for the night.  Lester has driven away from the scene but he has serious damage too.  As the field bore down, Ragan and Earnhardt got together sending Earnhardt into the wall as well.

23. Lap 100 - Bodine leads by nearly seven tenths of a second over Sprague.  Benson sits third in front of Darnell and Musgrave who are locked in a side by side duel for fourth.

22. Lap 91 - Caution 7 is out for debris.  Bodine leads Darnell, Sprague, Benson, Musgrave, Starr, Bliss, Lagasse, Gaughan, Hornaday, Lester, Setzer, Crawford, Reutimann, Cook, Almirola, Hamilton, Crafton, Reid, and Earnhardt the top 20.  Green is back out.

21. All drivers were okay, but the trucks of Ambrose, Krisiloff, and Skinner are done for the night.

04-29-2006  10:36 pm

32. Lap 153 - Late race troubles again strike Crawford as he loses the right front and he pops the turn three wall.  Crawford was running fifth at the time.  Bodine leads Musgrave, Reutimann, Sprague, Benson, Cook, Hamilton, Starr, Bliss, Setzer, Almirola, Lagasse, McCumbee, Gaughan, and Crafton are the top 15.

31. Lap 146 - Bodine blasts into the lead on the restart, bringing Musgrave past into second.  Reutimann falls back to third.  Sprague takes fifth from Cook, while Hamilton pushes Almirola for seventh.

Post-race Audio Up

04-30-2006  12:30 am

We met up with almost half the field after the race tonight and got a lot of great interviews for your listening pleasure.

We have winner Todd Bodine talking about his second win of the season and his team's dominant start to the year. Ted Musgrave talks about racing hard for the win with a teammate, and David Reutimann shares with us the frustration of racing against two guys you know are quicker.

Terry Cook finished sixth and talks about building momentum for the summer stretch, while Aric Almirola tells us about driving all night without being able to communicate with your crew. Chad McCumbee was credited with 13th when we talked to him, but was moved to 11th in the unofficial results, which will make him even happier than he was post-race. Matt Crafton thought he was 11th, put still talks about a decent night for his team in which he needed longer green flag runs to be more of a factor. Bobby East talks about knocking on the door for top tens, and Brendan Gaughan, never at a loss for words, talks about another long night of coming from the back.

We have clips with Kyle Krisiloff, Mike Skinner, Marcos Ambrose, and Erik Darnell, all talking about the incidents that took them out of the race early on. We have Scott Lagasse wondering what he did wrong to get knocked out of a top ten spot on the last lap.

There's a ton of it there, and a lot of pictures for you to check out as well, and it's all found to the right side of the page in the Sights and Sounds Box.

Bodine Takes Two in St. Louis

04-30-2006  12:37 am

Todd Bodine led a Toyota sweep of the top-five finishing positions in Saturday's Dodge Ram Tough 200 at Gateway International Raceway on Saturday night.  Bodine started his No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota from the third position, but was forced to come from deep in the field after divergent pit strategies came into play late in the race.

Bodine was forced to endure an NCTS track record 13 caution flags on his way to victory.  Those cautions worked to his advantage late in the going, keeping the field bunched closely and allowing him to make up positions rapidly as he was able to pass trucks as quickly as he caught them.  One of those late race cautions put him on David Reutimann's back bumper, and he wasted little time in snatching the lead on the restart.

Once in front, Bodine cruised to victory, leading his Germain Racing teammate Ted Musgrave to the line by 0.433 seconds.

"We were definitely great on the long runs here tonight," Bodine said in victory lane.  "I knew I had a good truck, and I was just trying to get good restarts without making a mistake.  I knew we had a shot to get by (David) Reutimann.  This why I wanted Teddy on the team - he's such a great driver and he has so much experience. He knew what to do at the end, I didn't have to worry about him and we ended up with a 1-2 at the finish."

Musgrave, for his part, would have liked to have been the one to cross the line first, but was glad to do his part to ensure a Germain Racing sweep of the top two positions.

"I talked with Todd on the radio at the end and we talked about what we were going to have to do to get by David," Musgrave said.  "Todd was just a tick better than me and I couldn't get by him in the end.  It's another top five for me and another win for Germain, but I really would have liked to get my third win here."

Reutimann led from lap 110 through lap 146, but faced the daunting task of keeping a fast closing Bodine behind him for the last 14 laps.  On the final restart, Bodine made quick work and blasted past Reutimann on the outside going into turn three.

"Those guys were a lot faster than me and I let them go," Reutimann said.  "At one point we had a glimmer of hope that we could hold them off.  I'm proud of my guys for taking a truck that wasn't very good at the start and turning it into something a whole lot better.  It was a good night for us and a good night for Toyota."

For Toyota, it marks the first time the manufacturer has swept the top five finishing positions in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race.  Behind Bodine, Musgrave, and Reutimann at the finish were fellow Tundra drivers Jack Sprague and Johnny Benson.  While not ever picking up all five of the top finishing positions, Toyota has notched four of the top five positions on four occasions, most recently at Fontana earlier this season.

Former Gateway winner Terry Cook was sixth, ahead of Bobby Hamilton, Jr., David Starr, Mike Bliss and top Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender Aric Almirola.

It appeared that Erik Darnell would continue his dominance in the battle for top rookie honors as he ran in the top five for a considerable part of the early stages.  However, he was tangled up in a crash with Bill Lester on lap 106 and forced to watch the end of the race from the sidelines.   Darnell was credited with 31st at the finish.

In all, there were a record 13 cautions for a record 50 laps.  Nine cautions were for incidents on the speedway, the most serious of which involved Mike Skinner, Kyle Krisiloff, Marcos Ambrose, and Justin Martz off turn four.  Skinner had a right front go flat exiting the turn and pounded the SAFER barrier before bouncing back into traffic.  Krisiloff and Ambrose piled in, with the right side sheet metal being peeled back on Ambrose's truck.  Only Martz was able to continue on, soldiering on to a 20th place finish in his series debut.

Others involved in the numerous incidents included Timothy Peters, Steve Park, Robert Richardson, Kerry Earnhardt, Erin Crocker, Kraig Kinser, David Ragan, and Rick Crawford.  Crawford was involved in the final caution of the night on lap 154 as a right front tire went down while he was running in the fourth position.

Bodine's average speed was 84.966 miles per hour, with the elapsed time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, and 14 seconds.

Bodine unofficially leads the championship point standings by 12 markers over Musgrave heading into the next series event in Charlotte in three weeks.
