Could Kevin Harvick take off the rest of the 2006 NASCAR Busch Series season and still win the championship? Almost. Harvick has a near insurmountable 729-point margin over Carl Edwards with five remaining events. If he can leave the next race in two weeks at Charlotte with a 760-point margin, he’d clinch the title and wouldn’t have to race in the four remaining events.

With his first full season of NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competition coming to a close, Robert Richardson will attempt to make his career-first NASCAR Busch Series start at the Lowe's Motor Speedway this Friday, October 13th in the Dollar General 300. Richardson is also scheduled to compete in the O'Reilly Challenge NASCAR Busch Series event November 4, 2006, at his home track of the Texas Motor Speedway. "I'm really looking forward to some time behind the wheel of the Busch car this weekend," Robert Richardson said. "This No. 80 Chevy is pretty stout so I think we will have a good chance of making the race. But our main focus for Charlotte is seat time and preparation for Texas. We want to use this weekend for a test to see what we need to work on for the race next month at TMS. The tracks are similar enough in size to use as comparison. Mark Martin, driver of the No. 6 AAA Ford Fusion, came out of Talladega third in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup points. Martin was this week's guest on the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series teleconference. How optimistic are you about your title chances? "We're in the best position we've been in in many, many years. We have a really strong team. Our cars have been fast most of the time this year and we're sitting better than we have been in any other time than I can remember. There are still six races to go, although I do feel much better getting Talladega behind us, I've done this long enough to know it's quite a chore to pull one of these things off, so we have to go out and continue to run really well and we have to hope that things that we can't control don't bite us. If those things go our way, then we ought to be knocking on the door."

Past Title Runs Boost Benson's Confidence as Truck Series Hits Stretch Run
- After building a dominant advantage early in the season, Todd Bodine is now faced with a serious challenge for the 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship. Bodine, whose best year-end point result in a nationally-touring NASCAR series is second in the Busch Series in 1997, holds a 79-point lead over Johnny Benson. Benson is no stranger to making a championship run, having earned the 1993 ASA championship and the 1995 NASCAR Busch Series title. Bodine scored three wins early in the season, but Benson has come on strong in the middle and late portion of the schedule. Since scoring his first Truck Series win at Michigan in June, Benson has followed with three additional checkered flags. (David M. Vaughn Photo)

With only three races remaining in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season, the road to a championship looks custom built for Todd Bodine. Bodine, who leads second-place Johnny Benson by 86 points, is the defending champion at all three tracks the series will visit in November. Bodine won at Texas Motor Speedway, Phoenix International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway to wrap up an impressive 2005 season. He finished third in the standings in his first full-time season in the series. A win at Texas on Friday will do more than propel the team's championship hopes, however. Bodine currently has three victories at the 1.5-mile track, one short of the series record for wins at one track. Ironically, that record is held by Brendan Gaughan, who captured four consecutive wins at Texas in 2002 and 2003. While Bodine's three Texas wins were not consecutive, he has won three of the four races he has attempted at the track. (David M. Vaughn Photo)
