Michael Waltrip, owner of Michael Waltrip Racing, Incorporated, announced today that former NASCAR champion and three-time Daytona 500 winner, Dale Jarrett, is joining the organization to drive the team’s second Toyota entry in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series beginning in 2007.

Roush Racing announced today that Mexico City native Michel Jourdain, Jr. will drive the No. 50 Roush Racing Ford F-150 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for nine events in 2006. "We're really happy to have Michel driving for us at Roush Racing," said team owner Jack Roush. "He is an outstanding talent with an equally impressive resume. He's a veteran of the Champ Car Series, and he's had some success over there, getting a couple of wins. We're looking forward to helping him make his transition to full-time NASCAR competition."

Joe Gibbs Racing development driver Aric Almirola will make his NASCAR Busch Series debut at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway when he attempts to qualify for Friday night's Circuit City 250. A rookie in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Almirola is coming off a strong top-10 finish at Gateway International Raceway April 29. He will drive the No. 19 Husqvarna Chevrolet for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Busch Series race at Richmond.

K-Automotive Motorsports and driver Brad Keselowski announced today their intention to run a partial schedule towards the end of the 2006 season. “Currently we are searching to find different levels of team sponsorship.” stated owner Kay Keselowski, “We feel like we can be as competitive as ever with adequate funding. We rebuilt our fleet of trucks at the beginning of the season, and we think they are extremely competitive race vehicles. Our history shows that we have the right stuff to get to victory lane, we just need a sponsor that’s willing to join us there.”

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series drivers will be celebrating Mother's Day on Sunday in recognition of the support their mothers have put behind their racing careers. Support, of course, their mothers continue to give whether watching from the grandstand or, in some cases, from pit road. Several mothers are active as owners including Carol Sutton, who with husband Ed fields the No. 02 Team Copaxone Chevrolet driven by daughter Kelly Sutton. "My mother, Carol, is a wonderful lady who is not only my mom but also instrumental in managing the business aspects of Sutton Motorsports and Team Copaxone," said Sutton, whose 44 starts are the most in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series by a female driver. Race teams from around the country are one step closer to the Mopar All-Star Showdown at Concord Motorsport Park, as the official entry forms for the event were distributed by USAC Racing last week. The All-Star Showdown will be held Sunday, May 21, one day after the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup All-Star event. Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s Public Relations Department will be providing weekly construction updates as the speedway undergoes its multi-million dollar facelift, which will result in a new fan interactive garage area, a pit road closer to the grandstands, resurfaced and re-banked racing surface and state-of-the-art media center.

On Friday May 12, Herbert Wayne Gill, Jr , nicknamed "Herbie", was found deceased in his home in Rockvale, TN. Herbie, who had recently turned 40, was the older brother of long time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR Nextel Cup Crew Chief, Danny Gill who currently serves as Competition Director for Bobby Hamilton Racing. Herbie had been a part of the NCTS family from 2000-2004, working mostly for BHR and Morgan-Dollar Motorsports as a tire specialist. He also contributed highly to the team by serving as a spotter when needed. He was serving as Bobby Hamilton Sr.'s spotter when he won his first NCTS race at Martinsville Speedway in 2000. There’s no loyalty like that exhibited by motorsports fans, evidenced by a recent ESPN Sports Poll. NASCAR tops the list as the favorite type of motorsports according to fans polled from January-December 2005. It received 59.5% of the votes compared to the next-highest total of 13.4% for the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).

International Speedway Corporation today announced W. Brett Shelton, President of Michigan International Speedway (“MIS”), will step down from his position at the end of the 2006 racing season at MIS. Roger A. Curtis, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for California Speedway, has been named as Shelton's replacement and will move to MIS to begin working on the transition immediately.

On Thursday May 11th the Nextel Cup transport drivers showed their skills behind the wheel as part of competition for the 2006 Pilot Truck Driver Challenge. Each driver was judged on his ability to navigate a chicane course safely. At the conclusion of the day’s event Jeff Seaberg, transport driver of the No. 10 Evernham Racing team, and Brent Davis of Peak Fitness Racing, showed that they are one of the best in the garage.

A lot of Las Vegas Motor Speedway is being torn down, but very little is being thrown away.
The speedway’s multi-million dollar construction project has created a considerable amount of rubble which might be misconstrued as waste. But quite a bit of what was demolished will be reused.

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Brendan Gaughan knows his way around Texas Motor Speedway - having won at "The Great American Speedway!" four consecutive times in 2002-03. But Tuesday he picked up some special "driving" tips from PGA Tour players. Ten PGA Tour players took time off between last week's Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, Texas and this week's stop at the Bank of America Colonial in Fort Worth to visit Texas Motor Speedway and drive NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series cars in the Team Texas High Performance Driving School. Their special instructor was Gaughan, who won a record four consecutive NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races at Texas Motor Speedway and will compete in the Fort Worth 400k on Friday, June 9. While the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series champion and the rest of the Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup competitors will celebrate on familiar ground at the world-famous Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York at season's end, the top teams in NASCAR's other two national series will be "going to Disney World." It will be the first race that I've been involved in one way or the other with that I have missed since before my Cup career. California Speedway President Gillian Zucker today announced Dave Allen will assume the role of Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Southern California motorsports facility and will directly oversee the superspeedway’s marketing, sales and ticketing departments. Jimmy Hager, father in-law of Mike Hillman, Jr., crew chief of the No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota Tundra unexpectedly passed away Tuesday night. Jimmy, 72-years-old, was a big part of the Germain Racing family and will be deeply missed. Hager's son in-law, Mike Hillman Jr. will not be attending this weekends Mansfield race, as he will be home with his family.

A foundation has been set up for Chris James following an accident on Wednesday night at The Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Injuries stemming from the incident required the amputation of both of James’ legs. James is a regular driver with the Redneck Racing Series and CRASHCar division at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway. He pilots the #38 “Rimer Rocket.”
