Starting Positions For Sale 01-25-2006 6:33 pm
Starting Positions For Sale If you want to become a new team owner in NASCAR and have an unlimited budget, you can guarantee yourself a starting position in the first four or five races of the season. That guarantee usually becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you make the first five races, you gain points on the teams that did not. Therefore, you are almost assured your team will stay locked into a guaranteed starting position all season long. My question to you is, "Do you think that is right?" If you ask me that same question, my answer would be a resounding NO! Years ago, the starting line up for a NASCAR race was set by straight-up qualifying. If there were 43 starting positions available, the 43 fastest cars made the show. The slower cars from 44th and back packed up and went home. Sounds like a very radical plan in today's "Were putting on a show" NASCAR. (SPEED Channel Photo)

Preseason Thunder Comes to a Close; Speedweeks Up Next 01-15-2006 8:42 pm
Preseason Thunder Comes to a Close; Speedweeks Up Next The final day of the three-day Preseason Thunder test sessions for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series has come to a conclusion, and the teams now head for home with the opening race of the 2006 season now just weeks away. With as many as 13 rookies on the grounds, NASCAR officials wisely allowed the teams to work in the draft on each of the three days allowing the newcomers to get as much experience as possible before they come back for real for the start of official practice for the Florida Dodge Dealers 250 on February 15. There were two different approaches evident during the three-day session, one of which saw teams locked into the field by NASCAR's qualifying procedure concentrate on race setups in the draft. The other saw the dozen teams at the track trying to make the field for the race based on their qualifying speed work intensely on single-truck runs trying to find as much speed as possible in qualifying trim. By any measure, Germain Motor Co. will field a “super team” during the 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season. Lead driver Todd Bodine won the final three races of 2005 and can set a series record for consecutive victories if he captures the Feb. 17 Daytona 250 at Daytona International Speedway. Just a few days before this week’s NASCAR Jackson Hewitt Preseason Thunder at Daytona began at the 2.5-mile superspeedway, the organization added 2005 champion Ted Musgrave to its stable.
