Bodine's Championship is Family First 11-21-2006 3:44 pm
Bodine's Championship is Family First The strategy and the finish wasn't what Todd Bodine (No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota) was looking for, but a conservative run in the Nov. 17 Ford 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway wrapped up the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship. Bodine, keeping rival Johnny Benson (No. 23 Exide Batteries Toyota) in sight through much of the race, prevailed with a 21st-place finish when Benson's truck was caught up in another competitor's mishap. The final point margin was 127 - third largest in series history. The title ended a Bodine family drought of more than 25 years as brothers Todd, Geoffrey and Brett pursued a NASCAR national touring series crown. Bodine's success came in the trio's 1,853rd start. "For what this family's gone through (in racing) … it's very special for us," said Bodine, the series' sixth consecutive different champion and seventh in nine seasons. "I told my mom (on the cell phone) 'we finally did it.' It's the first time a family member has done something so important." (David M. Vaughn Photo)

The No. 23 Toyota Tundra squad has been the team to beat in the second half of the 2006 season, and after last year's third-place performance in Miami, the team was confident in its chances to win the Ford 200. Hamilton Jr. Posts Best Finish of the Season at Homestead Bobby Hamilton Jr. and his No. 18 Fastenal Dodge saved their best for last. Hamilton Jr. posted his best NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series finish of the 2006 season, a strong fourth place showing, at the season's last showdown, the Ford 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Friday night.  "We had a really good run tonight in the Fastenal Dodge," Hamilton Jr. said in the garage area after the event. "The truck was really hooking up in that high groove and there was just a ton of grip up there. It made for some really good racing. A lot of guys were finding a place where their trucks could run competitively. On the next to last run of the night our truck was really, really fast. I was hoping we would have something for the leaders at the end. Hopefully this helps the No. 18 Fastenal Dodge team build something for next season. Over the past four races or so this truck has been really competitive so I think that bodes well for next year." (Steve Keller/TruckSeries.com Photo)

Bodine Adds Name to History Books as 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion 11-18-2006 1:46 am
Bodine Adds Name to History Books as 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Champion The Bodine family has been a part of the NASCAR community on a full-time basis since 1981. First on the scene was the oldest of three brothers, Geoffrey, who not only drove every lap like it was the last, but he also helped usher in performance and safety innovations that helped elongate the driving careers of many of the eras most famous names. Next on the scene was the middle brother, Brett, whose analytical mind brought along with it a college diploma and a never-say-die attitude. The last of the three brothers to reach the big time was the youngest, Todd, whose aggression - some said - often led to hurt feelings and hurt racecars but always gave people reason to talk. After a quarter of a century at the sport's highest levels, the talk still centers around the youngest of the brothers. Only now, it is not about sponsor deals gone bad, or rides being lost, or even about who caused what incident on the racetrack. The buzz around the youngest Bodine brother centers around one word: champion. (David M. Vaughn Photo)
