Here's the latest example of how the 2006 season has been the year of the veteran on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. It's altogether possible that six current or former series champions could wind up among the final top 10 in points following the Nov. 17 finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Four champions currently occupy top-10 spots with Mike Skinner edging into the mix for the first time since the season's second race at California Speedway. (High Sierra Photo)

Bowyer retook the lead, and at times was able to pull away to a half-second advantage. But Skinner had one bullet left in the chamber. Who To Watch in Tonight's Silverado 350 from Texas Motor Speedway -
The Busch Series cars are out for their qualifying session, and the sun has set on the Texas Motor Speedway. The skies are clear and the temperatures are slowly dipping and will eventually slide down into the mid 40s. The NCTS teams have completed their final adjustments and are awaiting the conclusion of the qualifying session to move their trucks to pit road. Most have already set up their pit stalls and are enjoying a little down time before they go to battle at 9 pm ET. Let's preview the race tonight driver by driver:
Clint Bowyer
- First pole, has been strong in both previous NCTS starts this season. Should lead laps here tonight and the MDM team has won here previously.
Mike Skinner
- Beat for the pole, Skinner is blindingly fast on short runs; the more cautions we have particularly early and late will keep the No. 5 in the hunt. (Charles Krall/ TruckSeries.com Photo)

"For our program now, obviously, I was tickled to death to run that fast of a lap. We didn't do a simulated qualifying run in practice, so we really didn't know what it would run. To run that fast was definitely a good pick up for us. We're very pleased with that."

Mike Skinner has been collecting Budweiser pole awards since the second race in Craftsman Truck Series history;Tucson Raceway Park in 1995. He's been racking them up at Texas since his second visit there in November of 2004. This weekend he will be attempting to start from the pole position for the fifth consecutive time at Texas, which would extend his series record. Skinner earned the pole at the June race at Texas to break a tie with Ron Fellows for most consecutive poles at a track. Fellows started from the pole position at Watkins Glen International from 1997 to 1999. In the process, Skinner happened to break the track record for fastest qualifying lap (183.206 mph/29.475 sec). It should come as no surprise that Skinner is the series' leader in career poles. He has started first 31 times, including seven this season. (David M. Vaughn Photo)

"I'm really excited about Texas, but I have learned over the years that you can put too much emphasis on one particular race - and it really doesn't do you any good. You have to approach (going to my home track) like it is any other race in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Every race is important, and you have to go into the race with that mindset."
