"Some people hit the setup just right and some missed it. We had a great truck. I had a good setup and I felt comfortable and fast all night long. My hat's off to Cowboy and the whole crew for setting it up. It ran good since we tested it at Chicago last week and it ran good since we landed here. It's a brand-new truck, so it's now got one under its belt, but it deserved a better finish than that."

Although Dennis Setzer headed to Lowe's Motor Speedway for the sixth race of the 2006 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) 25-race season looking to take a trip to victory lane, the hard work he and the team put forth got the No. 85 Shell ROTELLA T Silverado a very solid seventh place finish. Equally as important, Setzer is continuing his methodical climb in the standings, now sitting eighth in the order. (Ronda Greer Photo)

The pressure to qualify on time for a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver can sometimes be more than one can handle; but that didn’t prove to be true for Rookie of the Year candidate, Boston Reid. In only their second race together, Reid and newly appointed crew chief, Mark Nelson made vigorous changes to their No. 25 Red Rocks Café truck following their final practice; and it paid off in huge dividends.

Todd Bodine raced to an impressive third place finish despite having to overcome a loose race truck early on in Friday's Quaker Steak & Lube 200 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. It was not a typical weekend for Bodine, as his No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota Tundra started in the 26th spot. "We had a pretty good night," said Todd Bodine. "We basically started out last." Busch Goes Back to Back in Charlotte
05-19-2006 | Charles Krall, Trackside Editor
Kyle Busch is a big fan of the movie Days of Thunder, so much so that he painted his No. 51 National Land Liquidators Chevrolet to look just like the car of his favorite character, Rowdy Burns. Rowdy Busch came back to the scene of his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win and backed it up with his second straight win in the Quaker Steak and Lube 200 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Busch, who was forced to a backup truck after a crash in a test session on Thursday, started from the 20th position and charged virtually unimpeded through the field and was in the top ten within the first 25 laps. Busch took the lead for the first time on lap 37 and made a shambles of the field from then on, only losing the lead on pit stops. "I can't thank Billy Ballew enough for letting me come and race his truck," Busch said in victory lane. "We had a tire go down in the test yesterday and lost our primary truck. The guys worked hard to get this truck as good as the primary was." We scuffed the side of this one in the test yesterday too, and they took that setup right out of it and put in the one from the primary and it really worked well." Busch said he had no problems at all working his way through the field.
For the second consecutive year, Busch beat Terry Cook's No. 10 Power Stroke Diesel Ford to the stripe. Cook's team made a gutsy call to take just right side tires on his final pit stop, and it paid off as track position allowed him to race with the leader the rest of the way.

David Starr would have liked nothing more than to get a win at Charlotte. Drivers agree that Charlotte has become the Mecca of racing. "I would rather win at Charlotte than to win at Daytona" Starr said before the race Friday night. Unfortunately victory lane would not be the final destination of the No. 11 Red Horse Racing Toyota.
|
|
|
Erik Darnell brought his No. 99 Woolrich Ford F-150 home in the tenth position on Friday night, rebounding from a 33rd place starting position to score his third top-10 finish of the 2006 season. Darnell was forced to miss most of the allotted practice on Friday after making contact with the outside wall in the first practice session. "We had a really good truck tonight, all things considered," said Darnell." (Ronda Greer Photo)

|
David Ragan fell victim to an unfortunate early incident on Friday night at Lowe's Motor Speedway by getting tangled up in a wreck on lap four. Trying to avoid the incident, Ragan brushed the outside wall with his No. 50 Ford, resulting in suspension damage that would plague his Ford F-150 for the rest of the evening.

Spins, Tires And Distributor Problems Make For A Long Night
- Jack Sprague hasn’t had good luck at Charlotte in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races since his return to the Series in 2004. Unfortunately, that string of bad luck didn’t change during Friday night’s Quaker Steak & Lube 200.

Getting back to business after several weekends without racing, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series headed to Lowe’s Motor Speedway for the running of the Quaker Steak and Lube 200 Friday evening. Johnny Benson and the Toyota Certified Used Vehicles team struggled a bit in the first practice session of the day, but stepped up when it counted, qualifying in the sixth position and finishing 12th.

Aric Almirola and the No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Silverado team were fast in practice for the Quaker Steak and Lube 200 at Lowe's Motor Speedway (LMS) and when the green flag dropped, they were fast in the race as well. Almirola scored his second consecutive top-10 in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competition Friday night with a ninth-place run to the checkered flag. (Ronda Greer Photo)

Orleans Racing kicked off the nine-race summer stretch with a hard earned top-15 finish at Lowe’s Motor Speedway that once again saw them ranked as best in class when the checkers fell. Like his fellow competitors, Brendan Gaughan was faced with the challenge of handling a new harder Goodyear tire on a new racing surface. It was a combination that proved to be treacherous for many but not so for Gaughan who guided his brand new Dodge through the 134-lap event and emerged without a scratch.

|
|
A cut right front tire in the early stages of Friday night’s Quaker Steak and Lube 200 relegated NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor Bobby Hamilton Jr. to a 21st place finish. Hamilton Jr.’s Fastenal Dodge was forced to make a green flag pit stop on lap 12 for two right side tires putting him almost two laps down.

Mike Skinner led three times for 38 laps to win the WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race Award in the Quaker Steak and Lube 200. Skinner started from the pole but dropped out with engine problems after completing 115 laps. He was credited with a 33rd-place finish. Skinner is tied with Todd Bodine for the lead in the WIX Filters Lap Leader standings in the Craftsman Truck Series.

Mix a brand-new asphalt surface with a Goodyear Wrangler tire hard enough to figuratively produce sparks and what do you get? A lot of slipping and sliding but - ironically - the cleanest NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race of the four run at Lowe's Motor Speedway. A couple of trucks wound up in the wall, more from close racing than anything to do with tires and grip. (High Sierra Photo)

The truck number was different but everything else stayed the same. Kyle Busch, who became the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series' youngest winner at age 20 in 2005, returned to Lowe's Motor Speedway Friday night and this time put an exclamation point on his second winning performance in the Quaker Steak & Lube 200. Busch, whose Billy Ballew-owned and Richie Wauters crewed National Land Liquidations Chevrolet wore the No. 51 instead of Ballew's familiar No. 15, spotted the 36-truck field a 20th-place start. Qualifying was just a warm-up for the Las Vegas competitor. Before a crowd estimated at 45,000, Busch sped through the field to overhaul Budweiser Pole winner Mike Skinner on the 37th lap around the 1.5-mile superspeedway then easily left his rivals in the rear view mirror. He wound up leading 96 of the 134 laps. (High Sierra Photo)

After two strong test sessions in the last 10 days, Mike Skinner and the No. 5 Toyota Tundra team were excited to return to Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Skinner felt like he had a strong truck from the time they unloaded and knew if they had any sort of luck the team would have a strong showing at the newly paved racetrack.

|
Dodge Motorsports driver Timothy Peters made the most of a tough situation in Friday night’s Quaker Steak and Lube 200 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Peters suffered a cut right front tire during an early morning practice session which forced his Dodge hard into the wall and required him to go to his backup Dodge Motorsports Dodge.
|
|
|
Dodge Motorsports driver Scott Lagasse Jr. had a rough night in his first showing at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. On lap 110 he was attempting to move over to allow lead lap trucks to pass when he hit the wall bending the right front fender. Over the next five laps the fender rubbed against the tire and on lap 115 the tire let go sending Lagasse Jr. into the fence in turn four

Kyle Busch scored his second consecutive NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory in the Quaker Steak and Lube 200 at Lowe's Motor Speedway behind the wheel of a Chevy Silverado. It was the first victory of 2006 for the Bowtie brand in the highly competive NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Five Chevy Silverado drivers scored top-10 finishes in tonight's 134 lap/200 mile race, the sixth event of the 25-race 2006 season.

Aric Almirola in the No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Chevrolet was the Raybestos Rookie of the Race at Lowe's Motor Speedway -
"We didn't have a very good truck at all, to tell you the truth. We were a lot better in practice. We just got way, way too tight tonight. The Spears Chevy was pretty good, just not good enough to run how we needed to. In practice I thought we had a truck that was capable of winning the race."

|
"I don't know what to say. The Ford Power Stroke Diesel by Int'l crew built us a new race truck and we debuted here. Last year we built a new race truck and debuted it here, and finished second behind Kyle Busch. It's two years in a row that he's won and it's two years in a row that we've finished second. Just a great effort by the entire team. Goodyear brought a tire here that was extremely hard. It chattered pretty much the entire race.

"In the beginning, I had some patience on some lapped trucks, I had all the patience I could take to get around them. My Tundra was pretty decent. We got tight on the long runs. At the end there, I was running hard with Terry (Cook). I was a little faster than him, and slipped in turns one and two, and slipped and got up high and lost some ground. With five laps to go I wans't going to make it up."

Following a script that unfortunately has become all too familiar this racing season, the Key Motorsports Chevrolet once again generated a time fast enough to qualify for Friday night’s Quaker Steak & Lube 200, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte but still failed to make the race.

"My guys have worked so hard all weekend and I am very happy with my Silverado crew for what they have done. With the new track surface, the new tires and all the support from Chevrolet, this is just awesome. I tried so hard the second lap, that is put us where we are but it was a great lap and a great weekend so far and for a good cause, Cystic Fibrosis. I am happy to have them on the side of our Silverado."

Mike Skinner will start from the pole for tonight's Quaker Steak and Lube 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race after barely nipping a surprising Erin Crocker for the top spot. Skinner's No. 5 Toyota Tundra Toyota turned a quick lap of 30.104, which translates to 179.378 miles per hour around the freshly repaved Lowe's Motor Speedway. Skinner won the pole last year with a much quicker 29.500 second lap, but that was on a much softer compound tire. Skinner will start inside the front row with Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate Erin Crocker on the outside. Crocker's No. 98 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge turned a lap of 30.170 seconds/178.986 miles per hour, making her the highest starting female ever in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The previous best start by a female was third back in 1997 by Tammy Jo Kirk at Portland. (Jenna Wolford/High Sierra Photo)

"I am really, really excited about tonight, I think we have a shot to win tonight. I have never experienced this before, so I am pretty excited about this. I love this race track, this is a cool place, and it would be awesome to run well here, in front of the hometown people. I moved here two years ago, and have made a lot of good friends here, and I am excited about racing in front of them."

You have raced at the "old" Lowe's Motor Speedway; how different does the surface feel?
"Smooth, that is for sure. We started out with a green track and then everyone is loose, until the rubber gets built up, then everyone is tight, so we just got tighter and tighter. The tire is extremely hard, pretty ridiculous actually, but what do you do."

On his way to Charlotte, NC Brendan Gaughan visited his favorite track, Texas Motor Speedway. Gaughan’s visit had him sharing "driving tips" with 16 PGA golf pros. The program, "Drive For Show", had Gaughan giving driving tips to the golfers, and the golfers tried to give their driving tips to the four-time TMS winner. The event was lots of fun for all involved, however Gaughan left TMS still needing a great deal of work with his golf game.
