It was destiny once again for Todd Bodine, as he and teammate Ted Musgrave battled Mark Martin to another exciting green-white checkered finish for the second straight week. Bodines No. 30 Germain Motor Company Toyota Tundra was stout throughout the race, leading a total of 11-laps. Bodine and his team had to overcome an early penalty for jumping a restart during an early race caution, which sent him to the back of the field. (High Sierra Photo)

Robert Richardson made his career-first start at the California Speedway Friday night in the racetickets.com 200. Richardson, a 23-year old rookie from McKinney, Texas, qualified his No. 1 WinYourMortgage.com Dodge in the 29th position for the 100 lap race. Richardson would suffer from a flat tire and a loose race truck for the entire 100-lap race before taking the checkered flag in the 33rd position.

Dennis Setzer did what he does best Friday night at California Speedway, run smooth, consistent laps and be a contender throughout the entire race. Setzer brought the No 85 Chevrolet E85 FlexFuel Silverado to the Racetickets.com 200 checkered flag in the 10th finishing position. Starting 12th in the order, the Newton, NC native ran with the lead pack of 10 to 12 trucks working his way to the top-five and ran there for the middle stages of the race. (High Sierra Photo)

Running laps and gaining experience on every track was the goal for rookie of the year contender Aric Almirola set for himself at the beginning of the 2006 season as the driver of the No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Silverado. After the checkered flag flew over the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series field at California Speedway, Almirola climbed from the cockpit with a smile because the team accomplished exactly what they set out to do, run every lap, finish on the lead lap and finish with the fenders in tact.

After a solid start in Daytona, the Circle Bar Race Team posted another top 10 finish in the Racetickets.com 200 at California Speedway. The 8th place finish moved the team up 2 places in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series standings to 6th and has the team's average finishing position still ahead of the pace set by last years Truck Series Champion. Ted Musgrave and his No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota Tundra pit crew once again showed why they are one of the teams to watch, as they took home a third place finish for the second week in a row. "This was another awesome week for the No. 9 Team ASE Germain Toyota Team and Germain Racing. For us to finish third and have Todd finish second is a credit to both teams," said Musgrave. On Friday night, Todd Bodine and Ted Musgrave got the final shot at Mark Martin they were denied a week earlier at Daytona International Speedway. It made no difference. The outcome of the Racetickets.com 200 at California, which also finished with a green-white-checker, found Martin's No. 6 Scotts Ford on top trailed by the Germain Motor Company Toyotas of Bodine and Musgrave. Martin, who led a race-high 63 laps, handily held off his rivals after the eighth caution and won by .131 second - about two lengths of his Ford F-150. In doing so, the 47-year-old Roush Racing hand became the first in series history to capture a season's first two races. (High Sierra Photo)

Jack Sprague once again showed the strength of his No. 60 Con-Way Toyota Tundra as he scored his second fifth place finish in a row on Friday night in the running of the Racetickets.com 200 at the California Speedway. "I had a lot of fun out there tonight, especially when Mark (Martin) and I ran together out front," said Jack Sprague. "Unfortunately we had a loose lug nut during our last pit stop and had to come back down pit road again which put us at the end of the field on the restart."(High Sierra Photo)

Erik Darnell brought the Woolrich Ford F-150 home in the 11th position in the Racetickets.com 200 at California Speedway, scoring top rookie honors for the second time in as many races in 2006. Making his first start at California Speedway, Darnell took the green flag in the 11th position.

After a caution-filled night at the California Speedway, Todd Bodine and the No. 30 team overcame an early penalty and earned crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. the WypAll Wipers Crew Chief of the Race Award presented by Fastenal. Three judges; including Jeff Hood of The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Robbie Reiser, and a WypAll Wipers rep. decided that Hillman's comeback performance was worthy of Crew Chief of the Race accolades. One week after a disappointing finish in the season opening Daytona event, HT Motorsports find themselves with another identical result, despite a grueling effort from driver Mike Wallace and the HT Crew. |
Stacy Compton finished 26th in last Friday's Racetickets.com 200 at the California Speedway. Although he finished on the lead lap, his Ford F-150 was the victim of trash on the grille that forced an unscheduled pit stop. Just like a week earlier at Daytona, Compton had to stop to have a tear-away removed from the grille.

Chad Chaffin and his Key Motorsports, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team ran strong, led Friday night’s Racetickets.com 200 at the California Speedway and posted a solid 18th place finish in their first Series appearance of the 2006 season.
Todd Bodine continues the torrid pace at which he finished the 2005 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season. Friday night's second-place performance at California Speedway was the veteran's sixth consecutive top-two finish. Consider this: Bodine has 12 finishes of third or better (11 top twos) in his most recent 16 starts for the Germain Motor Company Toyota team. Racetickets.com 200 winner Mark Martin has shut Toyota out of the winner's circle so far but it's clear that it's just a matter of time before the Tundra truck hits the top.
David Starr and his Red Horse Racing team laid down another solid performance as they guided their No. 11 Toyota Tundra to a 12th place finish in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at the California Speedway on Friday night. “It wasn’t the finish we had hoped for but we are getting there,” Starr said.

A malfunctioning radio and a loose wheel were two obstacles the No. 04 Hemi Dodge driver Scott Lagasse Jr. had to overcome in his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut. With the help of his Hemi Dodge Racing Team's fast thinking Lagasse was able to salvage a 30th place finish in the RaceTickets.com 200 at California Speedway.

Kraig Kinser posted the 20th fastest speed among 38 drivers, but the former sprint car racer failed to qualify for tonight's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at California Speedway. David Reutimann finished fourth in his No. 17 Team Tundra Racing Toyota after starting from pole position at California Speedway Friday evening. "We led a couple laps at the start, but then when the new wore off of the tires we were bad loose," said Reutimann. "We had to move up and let those guys go. We made adjustments, but we were still way to free on exit. All night long we fought it. We got it a little better, but we just could never overcome it." (High Sierra Photo)

Coming off a strong fourth-place finish in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) season-opener at Daytona International Speedway (Feb. 17), the second race of the season moved the teams and drivers across the country to California Speedway. It was a homecoming for Skinner, who was born in Susanville, Calif.

When Fastenal driver Bobby Hamilton started the Racetickets.com 200 at California Speedway he could barely hang on to his No. 18 Dodge Ram because it was extremely loose. Each pit stop the Fastenal Racing Team tightened up the truck to aid their driver. After the adjustments Hamilton steadily picked up positions throughout the race and finished the event in the 23rd spot.

NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor Timothy Peters fought an extremely loose chassis on his No. 4 Dodge Motorsports Dodge Ram throughout Friday night's Racetickets.com 200 at California Speedway. Despite his crew's valiant attempts to improve the handling on Peters' Dodge, he was unable to make up any significant ground and finished the event in the 24th position.

Bobby Hamilton Jr.'s Corky's BBQ and Ribs Dodge was the best in class during Friday night's Racetickets.com 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at California Speedway. Unfortunately for Hamilton Jr., best in class was only good enough for a 22nd place finish. Like a lot of NCTS competitors, Hamilton Jr.'s Dodge fought an extremely loose condition for most of the event. (BHR PR Photo)

Although Johnny Benson started towards the back of the pack in Friday night's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) at California Speedway, when the green flag waved he managed to work his way through the field. At the checkered flag, Benson just missed a top-five finish by one spot, registering a sixth-place finish in the No. 23 Toyota Certified Used Vehicles Tundra. (High Sierra Photo)

Brendan Gaughan considers southern California to be like a second home but Friday's homecoming was unlike any he had ever experienced before at the 2.0-mile speedway in Fontana, California. Gaughan came into California Speedway with a pole and a runner-up finish in three NCTS starts there and he had never finished worse than 21st. He was hoping to ride the wave of momentum off his top 25 finish at Daytona from coast to coast but unfortunately that wave petered out just after Friday's qualifying session for the second race of the season.

Mark (Martin), Todd (Bodine) and myself. A green, white, checker finish. The whole deal was the same thing. It was like deja vu. I thought about Daytona and thought here we are again. It's a good feeling to feel that. We'll take this finish and sooner or later things will switch around, and we'll be in the lead. That's two good races with a new team. It's just building blocks. We're working well together and so far we've had no mistakes and we keep running up near the front."
- Ted Musgrave

Pit stops, pit stops, pit stops. The Ford Power Stroke Diesel by International race team certainly earned their pay Friday night in the second race of the 2006 season. Driver Terry Cook made six trips to pit road and talked about his 10th NCTS race at California Speedway. "We had an aero issue this weekend with our truck," said Cook. "It's not a Ford issue and it's something internally that we need to work through with our race trucks." (Charles Krall/TruckSeries.com Photo)

Todd Bodine led twice for 11 laps to win the WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race in the racetickets.com 200 at California Speedway. Bodine took the award for the first time in 2006. Eric Darnell in the No. 99 Woolrich Ford was The Raybestos Rookie of the Race at California. Darnell finished 11th and took top rookie honors for the second consecutive race this season. “The truck was decent tonight. We were real good in the middle of the race and not as good at the end when we needed to be and I think it cost us. We got caught up a little bit there after our pit stop and we were pretty far back. It’s tough to pass out there."

"Man, I'm having a blast. I want to thank the fans; I just love you guys and thanks for all your support. Last year, I'm back one more year for you guys and Jack Roush and for all of these guys. It's a privilege to drive this F-150. It's just got great horsepower, and it was a great handling truck, and those guys out there are just fantastic. I love racing with Todd Bodine and Ted and Mike Skinner and all of these guys; they're really good drivers."

"We had a good truck out there tonight. We learned a lot. We made an adjustment before the race and I wish we wouldn't have done that. But our Xpress Silverado was fast tonight. We were loose and did get better during the race but I still wrecked quite a few times out there, we just didn't hit anything. It was a good finish for us, but we were hoping for more. We just go on to the next one with what we learned."

As Yogi Berra once said, "it's deja vu all over again" in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series as Mark Martin took his second consecutive victory in the Racetickets.com 200 at the California Speedway. To make it even more like last week, Martin beat fellow Daytona top-3 finishers Todd Bodine and Ted Musgrave to the stripe in a two-lap dash to the checkered after a late race caution sent the race into overtime. Martin didn't start from the pole, but it didn't take him long to show the No. 6 Scotts Ford was going to be a force to be reckoned with. He maintained a spot among the top five for the early stages of the race, and after a caution flag around the one-third mark, took the lead from Brad Keselowski. (High Sierra Photo)

David Reutimann qualified first turning a lap of 40.228 seconds (178.980 mph) in his No. 17 Team Tundra Racing Toyota for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at California Speedway today. “It feels good to break the track record,” said Reutimann. “I’m really glad we got another pole for Toyota. Hopefully, we’ll have just as good a ride for the race.”
"I am pretty happy with that lap. Our Silverado was good yesterday and we got a good lap out of it. This has always been one of my favorite tracks. It is a driver's track and you have to get a good setup under your truck to start the race so you can adjust on it during the race as the track changes the later it gets. I have a good starting spot for the race and I think our truck will continue to get better as the race unfolds." - Mike Bliss, No. 16 Chevrolet

David Reutimann picked up the Bud Pole for tonight's Racetickets.com 200 at California Speedway with a dominating run in his No. 17 Team Tundra Racing Toyota. Reutimann, who went out in the middle of the qualifying session, ran a quick lap of 40.228 seconds/178.980 miles per hour to lead a Toyota sweep of the first three positions. "We were fast in the heat of the day, and I hope we can carry that on to this evening," Reutimann said. "We were a little free on our qualifying run, so if the track tightens up like we expect, we should be just as good in race conditions." (High Sierra Photo)

"We made good progress from where we first started this morning. Both ThorSport teams are working really well together. Daytona didn't show what we are going to be able to do together I don't think. We have all the same guys together from last year except one and I have Bud Haefele as a full-time crew chief and Kerry (Earnhardt) has his Shane Tesch.

“We’re learning right now. The truck was real good on stickers but as soon as the newness wore off the thing was kind of all over the place. We’re just trying to figure it out right now. It’s more or less me learning the track is the big part of it, too.”
-Eric Darnell, No. 99 Ford
“We started off a little slow and we gained on it a lot. We were pretty good in that Raybestos Rookie practice. We kind of tuned ourself away that last practice a little bit and ran out of time." -
Erin Crocker, No. 98 Dodge

"It's great to be going home and race in front of many friends and family that still live out West, and to have the opportunity to see many of my friends I went to high school with. One thing I miss now living in Mooresville, N.C., is the In-N-Out Burger we have out West; you just can't beat a good burger. This is my favorite truck, Wally's favorite truck, and will be Chris Rice's favorite truck once we get out to California. The truck is just really fast and we've been trying to match all the KHI trucks to this one."

"California has been a good track for our team over the past few years. The track has lots of grip and is super-wide for passing. Its a fun track to drive and gives a driver high visibility at night. You have to set your truck up here to get off turn two without being tight, but you also don't want to be too loose getting into (turn) three. If you can find the right balance between those two, you'll be in good shape at California Speedway. Last year our team had a shot at a top-five finish late in the race, but we got caught up in a wreck that cut our tire down."
