Good Morning from Texas!
11-03-2005 9:45 am
Good morning from the second-largest sports stadium in the world, Texas Motor Speedway. We are here for the Silverado 350, round No. 23 of the 2005 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and it is also the first time in series history that we are at TMS in conjunction with the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series and the NASCAR Busch Series.
It is bright, sunny and crisp here this morning, but temperatures are expected to reach into the low 80s by mid afternoon. Rain should not be an issue at all here this weekend, in fact, it is so dry there is a ban on all burning here in Texas for fear of striking up wildfires.
We'll have all the action through the two practice sessions this afternoon and we'll stick with it all the way through Live! Bud Pole Qualifying at 8 P.M. Eastern, so keep it locked on to TruckSeries.com for all the news and notes from TMS.
NCTS Garage is bustling
11-03-2005 10:13 am
The NCTS garage area here at TMS is teeming with activity. The amazing thing about it is, at 8 pm last night the garage area technically didn't exitst. The transporters were pulled in and parked in the huge parking lot inside turn one, and NASCAR officials and TMS officials started placing temporary fencing around the area transforming it from a parking lot to a hot pit area almost instantly.
Once things calm down, we'll wander over with the TruckShots! lens and collect some images of the morning's activity.

Look for Pre-Practice Audio
11-03-2005 1:46 pm
The TrackSideLive! microphones have just returned from the NCTS garage area at Texas Motor Speedway, and we have some great audio for you to listen to. We caught up with two of the players in
last week's spectacular first lap crash
and got the full story on what happened to get Steve Park and Mike Bliss tied up in the hardest hit of 2005 and followed up to make sure both of them are at one-hundred percent here this weekend. We tracked down Joey Miller and heard what his plan of attack is here this weekend, and we also found Todd Kluever and got his side of the story after finding himself involved in the middle of some controversy after last week's last lap crash coming to the line.
Stick around, that audio will be posted to the Sights and Sounds Box and we'll have much, much more to follow throughout the rest of the day.
We are green!
11-03-2005 1:53 pm
The engines have roared to life and we are green for an hour of practice for tomorrow's Silverado 350. Stick around for all the updates as they happen right here on TrackSideLive!
They Said It Prac 1 No 1
11-03-2005 1:57 pm
Mike Skinner, No. 5 Toyota: "It's pretty confortable. It is just a skosh tight coming off the corner. It feels like it might be an aero thing. I noticed it just as much off two as I did off four."
Gene Nead, crew chief, No. 1 Dodge: "Crank another inch into the right side. We know we are going to be cooler than this tomorrow night."
Ted Musgrave, No. 1 Dodge: "I want to see what this (shock) rebound does for us."
Debris Slows Us Early
11-03-2005 2:01 pm
With a stout crosswind blowing across the speedway, NASCAR has waved the red flag as drivers and spotters have reported some debris being blown onto the racing surface. We should be back to green momentarily.

Still Clean and Green
11-03-2005 2:35 pm
Still clean and green after 42 minutes of the first one hour session.
Reutimann leads Benson and Skinner. Bodine is fourth with Musgrave in fifth. Bliss is sixth, with Busch, Whitt, Cook, and Montgomery rounding out the top ten. Setzer has fallen back to 18th.
Bobby Hamilton reports his truck is way too loose and he will not be making any more laps this session as his team works on getting a different setup under his truck.
Collision in the pits leads to changes
11-03-2005 2:37 pm
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series director Wayne Auton has instructed all drivers and teams to push their trucks into the garage area after their practice runs after a collision left two trucks with some damage. Jimmy Spencer was backing out of his stall just as Rick Crawford entered the garage area driving to his stall. Crawford impacted Spencer's truck with the right front corner, doing moderate damage to the nose of his machine and leaving the bumper on Spencer's Dodge looking like he went 500 miles bumpdrafting at Talladega. With the crew members working in such close proximity to the trucks entering and exiting the garage area, NASCAR has definitely acted in the best interests of everyone involved to ensure no further incidents.
Rundown coming soon
11-03-2005 2:52 pm
We apologize for the lack of a 45-minute rundown, but we were in the garage area chasing the Crawford/Spencer story. The red and black flags are waving over the speedway right now, so look for Practice 1 results to be posted both here and to the event box on the main page momentarily. Quickly, there are no changes among the top ten as the final sands slide through the hourglass.

MRN's Bagley Runs Afowl of Local Boys in Blue
11-03-2005 3:20 pm
Mike Bagley got a rude awakening from the local boys in blue here this morning. Always one of the fastest with a colorful phrase on the air, Bagman was also a little quick behind the wheel on the way in this morning, blazing through the traps in a 55 mph zone at just a tick over 70 miles per hour. Bagley took it all in good humor, asking for some help from the local Texas residents to put in a good word, and possibly even asking for some donations to help defray the $165 bite.
"Unfortunately speeding tickets are not an expense item and they can't be deducted," Bagley said with a chuckle.

Best Wishes to JKD

Another familiar face among the NCTS community is absent this weekend. Judy Kouba Dominick, who provides media information for Chevrolet, is not here in Texas while she is at home tending to family business. Everyone in the NCTS garage here at Texas and everyone in the media center wishest Judy the best, and everyone looks forward to having her back as soon as she can get everything on the home front settled.
TMS Now Holds Record for Most NCTS Races
11-03-2005 4:23 pm
Tomorrow's Silverado 350 will be the 16th NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the mile-and-a-half Texas Motor Speedway, making it the track that has now hosted the most Truck Series races in history. TMS takes over that distinction from Phoenix International Raceway, which will be running its 15th NCTS race next week.
Phoenix has been a member of the series since its inception in 1995, hosting two races a season in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998. TMS has hosted two races a season since 1999.

Post-Practice Audio Coming
11-03-2005 6:37 pm
We've been wandering through the NCTS garage and we tracked down several drivers to get their thoughts on what went down during practice. We spoke to Rick Crawford and asked him what happened to his ride in practice and how that will affect his chances in the race. We also talked to him about the ups and downs of his 2005 season, and what he has on tap for the final three. Terry Cook talked about the problems enountered when we practice during the day and qualify and race at night. Cook also discussed the highs and lows of his season and the frustrations of riding the roller coaster in 2005. Aric Almirola talked about his first ever laps at Texas Motor Speedway, as did United Kingdom resident John Mickel. Finally, we tracked down Justin Hobgood who, while he is making his first ever start here at Texas Motor Speedway, has actually earned a win here in the past serving as a spotter for last fall's winner Todd Bodine. Keep an eye on the Sights and Sounds Box and that audio will be there shortly...

Countdown to the green flag...
11-04-2005 8:36 pm
The fans are pouring in to Texas Motor Speedway and the drivers are about to walk across the stage prior to their ride around the track in the back of a new Chevrolet Silverado.
The championship battle has heated to a boil and Texas could be a pivotal race in determining the champion. Dennis Setzer has gone to victory lane here twice, and this race could be the one that gets the late-season monkey off his back. Ted Musgrave has run very well here in the past, coming close to winning here several times but late problems have ended dominant runs without the trophy going home on the Ultra Motorsports transporter.
Mike Skinner rolls from his series leading seventh pole and figures to be a factor here. Bill Lester is outside the front row and wants to make up for a dismal finish here in the spring and of course last year's extremely frightening crash coming off turn four. Kyle Busch went back-to-back at Charlotte and Dover in the spring, and he'd like to repeat that performance here as well after winning at Atlanta last weekend. Terry Cook went two months without a top-10 finish, but a solid run last week in Atlanta and a strong qualifying run here in Texas has Cook filled with optimism.
Any one of the 36 drivers in the field could be a factor for a top-10 finish here this evening, and we'll have all the action as it happens, so keep it locked to TrackSideLive! throughout the race and keep it here for the post-race breakdown once the checkered flag falls.
To the back...
11-04-2005 8:51 pm
Matt Crafton will drop to the rear of the field after an engine change on the No. 88 Menards/SealBest Chevrolet.
Mike Skinner has not been confirmed as a driver that will drop to the back, but we have heard information that he may have a tire issue on the No. 5 Toyota Tundra Toyota that may cause him to move to the back.
Let's Go Racin'!!!
11-04-2005 9:08 pm
The National Anthem has just concluded and two F-18s with the afterburners lit just buzzed the crowd. There are nearly 100,000 people in the stands ready to rock and roll with 146 of the hardest fought laps of the 2005 season. Are you ready? We sure are! Grab a snack, kick back with TrackSideLive! and we'll bring you all of the action of the Silverado 350, coming your way NEXT!

A few post-race remarks...
11-05-2005 12:18 am
Ted Musgrave, No. 1 Dodge: "We didn't do good at all. It was probably the worst we've done here. We had things a little different, and I think we shot ourselves in the foot pretty good tonight. We've always run a lot better than that, so we've got to go back and look at the setup we had in the spring here when we were really good."
Terry Cook, No. 10 Ford: "We were up and down. We fought handling problems all night long and we could never get a handle on it. And the end we came in and put a new set of tires on it and went from 20th to 12th. We had a decent day but no where near the day we wanted."
David Starr, No. 75 Chevrolet: "I tell you what, racing with my teammate Ron Hornaday, we just didn't have anything for those Toyotas. They were putting on a show. When the cautions came out and they guys would go to work giving me good pit stops, we'd be right there behind them. We just couldn't keep up."
Audio!!!
11-05-2005 12:24 am
We just got back from the garage area with the TruckSeries.com microphones and we have more audio than you can shake a stick at! We met up with Todd Bodine and talked about his third win of 2005, and found out he is wishing the 2006 season started the week after Homestead. We also spoke with third-place Kyle Busch and talked about the brush with the wall that ended his shot at the victory. We talked to a disappointed Johnny Benson and met up with Matt Crafton who drove from the back to battle for a top-10 finish late in the going. We also talked to Terry Cook and discussed the handling issues with his ride that cost him a possible top-five finish. Rick Crawford fought back from a practice incident in the garage area to bring home a top ten finish for Mr. Mitchell in his homestate, and David Reutimann picked up a solid top-five to build momentum in his fight for a top-10 points position. Dennis Setzer talked about his long night, and we caught Jack Sprague with a smile on his face after a great top-10 run with his new Jeff Wyler Racing team. We also caught up with Brandon Whitt and talked about the unique pit strategy that put him up front late in the going, but ultimately cost him a shot at the win.
That's going to do it from here at Texas Motor Speedway. Thanks to everyone - Stephanie, Gary and the whole staff - for their help here at the Speedway and thanks to you for checking us out. See you next week from Phoenix! Good night everybody!
