Good morning from Nashville Superspeedway

08-12-2005  10:59 am

Good morning everybody and welcome to TrackSideLive! coverage of the Toyota Tundra 200 from the Nashville Superspeedway, presented by Team ASE. It is another hot and steamy day in Tennessee, reminiscent of the day we spent in Memphis. It is going to be in the mid-90s with high humidity today, so the drivers and teams will be out in heat that feels like it's 115-12- degrees. We have a couple of practice sessions on tap later in the afternoon, and we'll keep you abreast of all the activity in the garage leading up to both sessions throughout the day.

NCTS in Nashville dates back to 1996

08-12-2005  11:36 am

Prior to the opening of Nashville Superspeedway, the NCTS competed at what is now known as the Music City Motorplex, the 5/8ths-mile speedway at the Nashville Fairgrounds. With races there from 1996-2000, there were five winners in five races held there:

1996 - Dave Rezendes
1997 - Jack Sprague
1998 - Jimmy Hensley
1999 - Dennis Setzer
2000 - Randy Tolsma

Rezendes' win in 1996 was his short track win for the year. That season he also won on a superspeedway (Homestead) and a road course (Sears Point) to become the first driver to win on all three types of tracks in a season.

Setzer's 1999 win came in the only race in NCTS history to be run without being shown on television. The race was rain delayed and missed it's original time slot in CBS television. Without time to show it when it ran later that evening, the cameras were loaded up and sent to their next event, while the race went off without them.

Crew Chief Change on Craven's No. 99

08-12-2005  11:42 am

Roush Racing announced this week that there would be a crew chief change on the No. 99 Ford driven by Ricky Craven. John Monsam, who started the season teamed with Todd Kluever and moved over to pair with Ricky Craven several races ago at Kansas Speedway, has been released from the team. Replacing him is John Quinn, a longtime Roush Racing employee who recently served as the eyes and ears for the No. 99 team up on the spotter's stand.

A couple of new looks...

08-12-2005  12:11 pm

A couple of regular teams have new looks here this weekend. Bill Davis Racing has yet another new look for its No. 22 Toyota for Bill Lester, this time the black and red colors of Office Depot. Billy Ballew Motorsports has come to Nashville with a black No. 15 Chevrolet for driver John Andretti, replacing the team's usual orange look.

Tech line is busy

08-12-2005  12:47 pm

The line of trucks still waiting to get through the tech line stretches 10 deep, with teams working hard to get their sticker so they can make it on track when practice starts at 3:15 pm ET. For those that have already earned their sticker, they've retreated to their transporters in an effort to keep cool. It is warming up, as anticipated, and we look to have a high temperature of around 95 degrees. Don't forget, the hottest part of the day is around 3 in the afternoon, and that is when the teams and drivers will be at their busiest here this afternoon.

Audio on its way...

08-12-2005  1:28 pm

We tracked down Ricky Craven and asked him what it would mean to join the list of big names who've made racing history in the Nashville area as well as what the scoop was with the crew chief change on the No. 99 Ford...and we got with local racing star Chad Chaffin to ask him what it means to come back home and race in front of the hometown crowd...audio is being edited and will be posted to the Sights and Sounds box very soon. Keep an eye out for those, and we'll be all over the garage trying to find more drivers to chit chat with prior to and following practice.

ARCA Practice winding down...

08-12-2005  2:03 pm

The ARCA Re/MAX Series cars are winding up their practice session and very soon the track will go silent until the NCTS comes to life and takes to the concrete. Don't forget we'll have all the action for you as it happens right here at TruckSeries.com.

Huge turnout at BHR open house

08-12-2005  2:05 pm

Bobby Hamilton Racing hosted its annual open house last night at the team's shop in nearby Mt. Juliet, and to no one's surprise the turnout was massive. Team officials estimate that over 3,500 people walked through the doors throughout the night to have a chance to meet team drivers Bobby Hamilton, Timothy Peters, Chase Montgomery, and Deborah Renshaw. In addition, there was a pit stop simulator, radio controlled truck races, and team souvenir trailers on hand as well. Visitors to the shop had a chance to see the car that Hamilton drove to his first Cup Series win in 1996 at Phoenix, BHR's first winning truck - driven to victory by Joe Ruttman at Phoenix in 2000 - and the car Hamilton drove last week in the Brickyard 400.

Crafton responds to last week's penalty

08-12-2005  2:10 pm

Matt Crafton had a terrific run last week at IRP, but it unfortunately was tempered by an infraction found in post-race tech inspection. His team was found to have used a spring that did not meet NASCAR's specifications, and as a result he was penalized 25 points in the chase for the NCTS championship.

"That was a just out of our hands,” Crafton said. “We bought the part from an approved supplier and found out after the fact it didn’t meet the NASCAR rule as indicated and stamped on the part. We went through our inventory and found a few more that were like that. I hate that it comes at a time in the season when points are so critical. We had a great run last week at IRP, so we’ll take that momentum and hope it carries over to Nashville."

Titans Player Hopkins to Wave Green Flag

08-12-2005  2:17 pm

Image Courtesy Gary Glenn | Tennessee Titans

Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Anthony Hopkins will wave the green flag to get tomorrow's Toyota Tundra 200 underway.

Hopkins is a devoted NASCAR fan and a huge automobile enthusiast. “It’s something that is great to be a part of,” Hopkins said. “I love cars. I’ve always loved cars, and I like cars that go fast. I’ve never been to a truck series race, but I’m excited. I’ve done the NASCAR thing, been to some Busch races, but this right here, I’m excited about it. What better way to start the race than being out there with the green flag.”

Trucks Up Next

08-12-2005  2:42 pm

We're closing in on the top of the hour, and the Trucks are to take the track in just about 20 minutes.  The drivers are making their way to the garage area from the cool comfort of their motor coaches, the teams are busy with last minute preparations, the track crew has made a once-over following ARCA practice and we are good to go.  Keep it locked on to TrackSideLive! for continuous updates throughout the two one-hour sessions, coming up next!

Green Green Green!

08-12-2005  3:02 pm

The first trucks have rolled on to the Nashville Superspeedway, with Rick Crawford, Ricky Craven, John Andretti, Ted Musgrave, Steve Park, Ron Hornaday, Todd Kluever, and Bill Lester leading the charge.  We'll listen in to team communications and bring you some of that as well as rundowns and all of the other action throughout this next one hour practice, so keep it right here.

08-12-2005  3:05 pm

Ricky Craven , No. 99 Ford: "It's not chattering the nose, but it feels like a steering ratio that might be making it tight."

Dave McCarty , crew chief, No. 75 Chevrolet: "Everyone has been skating all over the track the first two or three laps, just like you. We need to get a couple of laps on these tires."

They Said It Prac 1 No. 2

08-12-2005  3:09 pm

Mike Wallace , No. 12 Toyota: "It slides the front end something horrible. You go down and turn the wheel and it just slides."

Clouds Billowing in the Distance

08-12-2005  3:41 pm

We've seen some ominous looking clouds in the distance since just before practice started, but a quick look at the weather radar shows no significant rainfall anywhere near the Nashville area. With temps nearing 100 degrees and significant humidity, there is a chance that some storms could pop but for now we are bathed in sun. We'll update the weather if anything looks like it's going to change.

Clean and Green so far

08-12-2005  3:59 pm

We've run the entire duration of the first practice to this point without interruption for debris or an on-track incident. The practice should be winding to a close in a matter of moments. Keep it here for a complete results report as soon as the session comes to a close and that information is made available.

Prac 1 Over

08-12-2005  4:01 pm

"That concludes this session for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series," said event director Tim Berman just moments ago. "We will start up again at 4:15 (central)." Click here for practice 1 results.

Musgrave Looks to Continue Top-5 Streak

08-12-2005  4:43 pm

If you look through the record books, one name is a fixture in the top-5 of every NCTS race run here at Nashville Superspeedway: Ted Musgrave. Musgrave has finished no worse than third in four previous, but has never cracked into the victory column here either. In fact, he rotates year to year from second to third, back to second and then to third on the results sheets. In odd years, Musgrave finishes second so if history indeed does repeat itself, look for the No. 1 Dodge to be running second when the checkered flag falls tomorrow evening.

Final Practice Underway

08-12-2005  5:03 pm

Bill Lester led the Truck Series brigade out on to the speedway for the second and final hour of practice for the Toyota Tundra 200. Keep it locked on right here for all the updates throughout the session.

They Said It, Prac 2 No. 1

08-12-2005  5:05 pm

David Reutimann , No. 17 Toyota: "It kind of reminds me of what was going on in Kentucky. It's better getting into the corner, but it just pushes up through the center."

Johnny Benson , No. 23 Toyota: "If I dive in hard I lose the nose.  If I go in semi soft, it's okay."

Steve Park , No. 62 Dodge: "We know we're not that far off."

Closing in on the end...

08-12-2005  6:00 pm

Closing in on the end of the second and final session. No incidents to report of in this session, and to no one's surprise Jack Sprague has leapfrogged back to the top of the charts after making his mock qualifying run. We'll have a complete report in a matter of moments once the red and black flags wave to end the session.

We're calling it a night

08-12-2005  7:23 pm

We're going to call it a night from the track. Check out the TrackSide Audio as we talked to Todd Kluever about how he's making a habit out of running good and his role in the Roush Racing Race for the Ride...we also caught up with David Reutimann and asked about the dramatic increase in performance from the first practice to the second... Rick Crawford talks about how comfortable he is racing here in Nashville... Chase Montgomery was near the top of the charts all day long and it couldn't have come in a better place for the driver from nearby Mt. Juliet... and of course we caught up with the speediest of then all - dare we call him Concrete Track Jack - Jack Sprague, who dominated both practice sessions today. We're going to head over to the old Nashville Fairgrounds Raceway (now called the Music City Motorplex) to see Todd Bodine run in the late model class. We'll tell you how he did and cover all of the pre-race activity from trackside here tomorrow. Until then, goodnight everybody!

Welcome to raceday!

08-13-2005  9:59 am

Good morning everybody and welcome to TrackSideLive! qualifying and pre-race coverage of the Toyota Tundra 200 from Nashville Superspeedway. We have a couple of hours before the Trucks roll for the pole and we set the 36-truck starting field, so we'll go through the garage and snap some pics and see if we can't grab a driver or two for a quick pre-qualifying interview. It is another steamy morning here in the Nashville area, and the chance of rain lingers throughout the morning and afternoon. Humidity levels are much higher today than they were yesterday, and when you mix the heat and humidity it always produces a chance for popup showers and storms. We will keep you on top of it all from the track, all you have to do is keep it locked right here on the Toughest Site on the Web for all the news you can use from Nashville Superspeedway.

Stout has an uphill climb

08-13-2005  10:03 am

J.C Stout is one of the eight drivers that needs to qualify in on speed, and his challenge may have gotten just a little harder after missing much of the second practice with a mechanical problem that kept the No. 91 in the garage and on jackstands. He only ran two laps in the second session, and in a situation where he could have used as many laps as he could get to learn a tricky new racetrack, that could seriously damage his hopes of making the field here today. We'll check in with the team shortly to see if they have their problems fixed and what their outlook is this afternoon.

Sprague a free agent for 2006?

08-13-2005  11:05 am

There are now some rumors floating through the garage area that Jack Sprague may be a free agent for 2006. Rather than perpetuate those rumors, we went to the man himself and let him address them in his own words.

"We have been waiting to get our deal with Chevrolet put together," Sprague said. "I am a Chevrolet man and have been for my entire career, and my loyalty is to them. I feel like I have a lot of wins and another championship in me, and if this deal doesn't work out, I'd like to put myself in a situation where I can accomplish those things."

We have a full audio clip with Sprague that will be posted to the Sights and Sounds box very soon, so stick around to listen to the full interview.

Pre-Qual Audio on Its Way

08-13-2005  11:11 am

We caught up with a couple of drivers before qualifying this morning, including three-time series champion Jack Sprague who addressed the rumors about his future and talked about the hot rod he has here this weekend, and we caught up with Steve Park, last year's fifth place finisher here at Nashville. Park talks about the challenge he has going out very early to qualify, and talks about coming back to a racetrack where he's run well in the past. Stay right here...the magicians are working their magic and those interviews will be going up very soon.

Live! Bud Pole Qualifying Coming Up Next!

08-13-2005  11:15 am

Don't forget everybody, your only home for Live! Bud Pole Qualifying for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will bring you live coverage of the roll for the pole for round 16 of the 2005 season from the Nashville Superspeedway at noon ET. The track crew is out blowing the overnight debris from the track, and we have about 30 minutes remaining before the first truck rolls. It should be an interesting session with some big names going out very early, but they will have a racetrack covered in Hoosier rubber that doesn't necessarily agree with the Goodyear skids everyone in the CTS is wearing. The battle for the six open positions is going to be tight again as well, if you look at yesterday's practice times as any indication. It's going to be fun, and we look forward to you being here with us. Stick around!

Post-qualifying audio

08-13-2005  1:24 pm

We just concluded Bud Pole Qualifying, and Mike Skinner picked up his fourth pole of 2005, so we tracked him down before he went to the drivers meeting to ask about his run and to see if his truck will be fast for 150 laps here this afternoon. We also caught up to Brandon Whitt to ask if he thinks he can get Elvis a guitar to play after his strong third-place qualifying effort. We also asked point leader Dennis Setzer, who's starting 16th here today, if starting up near the front is critical here in Nashville.  Check out the Sights and Sounds section to the right for this, and more.  We'll try to get you a few more interviews before we go green, and we'll do our statistical breakdown of previous races here in Nashville and tell you who you need to keep an eye on once the green flag drops on the Toyota Tundra 200.

Drivers Meeting Notes

08-13-2005  2:01 pm

Darrell Waltrip started the meeting by welcoming in the NCTS drivers, owners, and crew chiefs to the Nashville Superspeedway..."this is a great place to start your career, and we've seen it is a great place to end it. You all do a great job, and I can't wait to give the command "gentleman start your engines". Yeah, I know, there's some ladies here so I'll be good and say drivers start your engines," Waltrip joked...the pit road speed is 45 miles per hour, and again NASCAR cautioned the drivers to be careful of their speed the entire distance of pit road; NASCAR will be timing the drivers from cone to cone on the pit runway, and will be very strict on writing tickets again today...the pace truck will run 55 miles per hour...pit speed is in effect between the two orange cones, which are placed 210 feet before pit box 43 at the entrance to pit road and 150 feet past pit stall 1 at the exit of pit road...the restart point is the double red line on the outside wall at the exit of turn four...the minimum speed drivers must maintain is 33.75 seconds; the teams will have one opportunity to reach and maintain that speed if they do have problems here today...all drivers must use the pit exit lane when leaving pit road.

No repeat pole winner streak continues

08-13-2005  2:41 pm

With Mike Skinner's pole winning effort here this afternoon, that means that no driver has ever won more than one NCTS Bud Pole Award at Nashville Superspeedway. Will that also carry over to the race, giving us five winners in five races? Only 150 laps will answer that question, but the only guy in the field that can make that happen is Bobby Hamilton. Last year's winner is the only previous Nashville winner entered here this weekend.

Nashville Race Summary

08-13-2005  2:43 pm

Here are the Nashville Superspeedway race averages:

In four previous races, the average start position of the winner is 5.75. The pole winner has won twice (Riggs, 2001 and Bliss, 2002), sixth (Edwards, 2003) and 15th (Hamilton, 2004).

There are an average of 12 lead lap finishers, with a low of 3 in the inaugural race in 2001 and a high of 27 in 2004.

There are an average of 10.3 lead changes, with a low of 9 (2001 and 2003) and a high of 12 in 2002. An average of 6.5 drivers swap the lead, with a low of 5 in 2004 and a high of 7 in the other three races.

The caution flag only waves an average of 3.25 times, with 3 yellows slowing the races in 2001, 2002, and 2003 and a high of five yellows in 2004. With so few yellows, there is an average of just 15 caution flag laps here, with a high of 20 last year and a low of 10 back in 2001.

The cumulative average speed of the four previous races is 128.883 miles per hour. The record is 132.466, and the slowest race was last season at 124.068.

TrackSideLive! Race Preview: Toyota Tundra 200

08-13-2005  3:26 pm

Want to know what to look for later today? Well, we're here to help! We'll offer a little insight on what we think will happen once we go green later this afternoon...

Look for the Toyotas to be strong out of the gate, and for them to run hard all day long to the finish. If they push too hard, it is possible that the Fords might be strong enough to take the money and run.

Mike Skinner, Bill Lester, and Johnny Benson have been a formidable three-way punch for Bill Davis Racing all season long, especially in qualifying. But what is fast for one lap doesn't always make a truck fast for the long run, and we've seen that play against them several times this season. It could be time that Mike Skinner gets the monkey off his back and he rides into victory lane, but he's going to need to make sure he doesn't run the tires off of as has happened in the past. If any place owe's Bill Lester anything, it is Nashville Superspeedway. Lester had a top-5 finish in the bag last year until a punctured tire sent him on a ride into the wall late in the going. He has a fast truck, but the last time he started up front he went backwards in a big hurry. If his team has it figured out, look for Lester to be up front all day long and a contender for a top-5 finish again this season.

The Ford contingent has shown some power here this weekend as well. Todd Kluever has been on an amazing run of late, and looked good in practice. He is aching to make up for losing one last week, and after solid runs at Kentucky and Kansas, both tracks similar to Nashville, he could be considered a real threat. Terry Cook lines up 19th, but he too has been strong on the intermediate superspeedways this season. He's back in the truck that dominated Kentucky, and although it's been repaired after a heavy crash within sight of the checkered flag, Cook could be a contender here as well.

What about the Bow Tie Boys? Jack Sprague had his way with the field here all day long yesterday, in race trim he was at times three tenths better than the second place truck. Conditions appear to be the same, and Sprague is very hungry for a win here this weekend. Point leader Dennis Setzer starts back in the pack, but last year's winner came from 15th on the grid so a little patience and a strong truck will go a long way towards adding a fifth trophy to the case here this afternoon.

Finally, what about the Dodge Boys? Ted Musgrave has had more fun here than anybody, but has yet to go to victory lane. He has been as high as second, but no worse than third in all four NCTS races here. Could today be the day he picks up that first win? Even if he doesn't, it's a pretty solid bet he'll be in the mix late in the going and threatening for a top-5 finish. The Orleans Dodges were both strong in practice yesterday, but the best they could do was 14th for Steve Park and 28th for Brendan Gaughan. Park had a slide into the grass on his second timed lap in qualifying, and may have done some damage to the nose of his machine. If everything plays out as expected, both drivers should be among the top-10 when the checkered hits the breeze around 7 pm ET this evening.

We're packing up to head across the track...we'll be back to bring you race updates in just a few moments. It could be a momentous afternoon as Erin Crocker is very close to becoming the first female driver to win a nationally touring stock car race in the ARCA 200-miler. Flip on Speed Channel to see how she does, and we'll be back with you shortly.

Weather coming...hurry up mode

08-13-2005  4:46 pm

We have felt some light sprinkles here at NSS, and NASCAR has gone to the hurry-up mode. As of now, the plan is to fire the engines and go green about 10 minutes early.

To the back

08-13-2005  4:52 pm

Both Todd Bodine and Steve Park will head to the back for making unapproved adjustments following qualifying. The 30 team changed ignition boxes, while the 62 team changed tires following Park's slide through the grass off turn 4 in qualifying.

Broadcast delayed

08-13-2005  4:54 pm

It appears as though the Speed Channel broadcast has been delayed. We are guessing that since the NASCAR Busch Series race is going on at Watkins Glen in New York, the Truck Series race will be shown in its entirety once that race comes to a conclusion.

Toyota Tundra 200 Race Updates 1-10

08-13-2005  4:58 pm

10. Lap 16 - Bodine gets into the back of Wimmer coming off turn two. Everyone bottles up, but keeps their trucks pointed in the right direction. Wimmer comes to pit road. Skinner leads by 1.8 seconds. Setzer cracks the top 10 for the first time.

9. Lap 14 - Reutimann moves to second going into turn three. Lightning is seen over turn two. We are still dry and under green.

8. Lap 10 - Gaughan comes to the pits again as the field is forming for the restart down the backstretch. Gaughan is a half lap down as the field takes the green. Crawford makes a strong move on the restart to take over second. Reutimann follows to third, Whitt back to fourth but Lester is pressuring.

7. Lap 8 - Hattori and Sutton get tangled up in turn two. Second caution of the day is out. Hattori has some left side damage and is going behind the wall. Sutton has significant damage to the right side and the entire nose of her truck is crumpled. Gaughan, Pressley, Hamilton, and Renshaw are on pit road. Gaughan's team is working on the right front fender, the damage a result of the earlier incident coming off turn four.

6. Lap 6 - Restart. Skinner leads. Pack is very jumbled around position 15-25. Sutton nearly brushes wall coming out of turn four. Skinner leads Whitt, Crawford, Reutimann, Lester, Sprague, Cook, Kluever, Benson, and Musgrave.

5. Lap 3 - Crafton, Renshaw, Craven, Fedewa, and Hattori come to pit road for service. Crafton had slight damage to the right front fender after brushing the wall.

4. Lap 2 - Renshaw gets loose in the middle of a three wide battle for eighth. She pushes Crafton up into the turn four wall as she spins, and then once she clears the banking she slides back up into traffic narrowly missing a dozen other trucks. Gaughan takes evasive maneuvers to miss the spinning truck and brushes the wall.

3. Green flag - Skinner jumps out to an early lead as Whitt follows him up the inside to second. Lester is third with Crawford fourth and Sprague up to fifth.

2. Two pace laps in the books. We should go green in one lap.

1. Trucks are now rolling off the grid. Everyone has cleared the grid and the field is now forming into their 18 rows of two down the backstretch.

Toyota Tundra 200 Race Updates 11-20

08-13-2005  5:19 pm

20. Lap 50 - Unbelievable action off four with six trucks two rows deep three abreast. Musgave, Kluever, Spencer, Cook, Lester and Crawford are all mixing it up for sixth. Reutimann is starting to chase down Skinner for the lead.

19. Lap 47 - Restart. Skinner outdrags the field to lead by ten lengths going into turn 3.

18. Lap 45 - Keselowski stays out to lead a lap under caution. Skinner wins the race off pit road followed by reutimann, Benson, Sprague, Musgrave, Kluever, Spencer, Crawford, Lester, Starr, Peters, Cook, Craven, Hamilton, Crafton, Bodine, Whitt, Gaughan, Park, Hornaday, Andretti, Hines, Fedewa, Wallace, and Montgomery. Keselowski comes to pit road on lap 46 and gives the lead back to Skinner. Setzer says he ran over something coming off turn two and cut the tire down going down the backstretch.

17. Lap 43 - Caution is out and it is a huge break for Setzer. Setzer slows with a flat right front tire. He pits before pit road is opened and will be forced to restart from the tail of the longest line. Skinner leads the pack down pit road.

16. Lap 40 - Chaffin has fallen a lap down. Skinner has lapped up to 27th position. Keselowski, Wallace, Gaughan, and Fedewa are next to be put a lap down.

15. Lap 36 - Wimmer takes his truck behind the wall. Skinner still up by 3.5 seconds as he and Reutimann weave through some lapped traffic.

14. Lap 31 - Skinner now leads by 3.5 seconds over Reutimann. Sprague is third, with Benson and Musgrave the top-5. Kluever, Crawford, Lester, Setzer, and Spencer round out the top-10.

13. Lap 27 - Wimmer sits on pit road with the hood up. Spencer, Cook, Peters and Andretti are all dicing hard for the tenth spot.

12. Lap 24 - Sprague moves past Crawford for third, and Benson has moved to fifth. Skinner leads Reutimann by 2.2 seconds. Stout is the first driver to fall off the lead lap on the racetrack.

11. Lap 20 - Whitt has fallen from second back to 16th. Crafton has cracked the top-20 after restarting back in 32nd after the first caution. Park and Bodine are also up to the top-20.

Toyota Tundra 200 Race Updates 21-30

08-13-2005  5:40 pm

30. Lap 82 - Restart. Skinner leads Reutimann. Reutimann, Sprague, and Benson are all nose to tail.

29. Lap 79 - Hamilton comes to the pits with a shredded right front tire. Skinner leads Reutimann, Sprague, Benson, Kluever, Bodine, Crawford, Gaughan, Setzer, Craven, Hornaday, Starr, Montgomery, Renshaw, Whitt, Fedewa, Musgrave, Park, Chaffin, Keselowski, Wallace, Lester, Pressley, Hines, Crafton, Spencer, Andretti, Hamilton, and Stout.

28. Lap 75 - Halfway. We are now official. Reutimann leads on the restart. Cook is pressuring Benson for fifth. Skinner dips inside off four to retake the lead. Cook dives to the apron to go three wide for fifth. Big problems off four for Cook - he slides up and pounds the wall off turn four. In the stackup, Hamilton gets in the back of Bickle and sends him sliding thru the grass.

27. Lap 69 - Spencer drops off the pace. He has dropped from 10th to 17th in three laps. Cook goes to the outside to pass Lester for sixth and sucks the air off the spoiler and sends Lester on a ride down the backstretch. Lester slides through the grass but doesn't hit anything. He fires the truck and brings it back to the pack. The caution saves Musgrave from falling a lap off the pace. Hamilton leads Park, Starr, Lester, Whitt, Fedewa, Hines, Chaffin, Spencer, and Crafton to the pits.

26. Lap 67 - Sprague moves past Benson for third. Andretti cracks the top-10, with Hamilton just behind in 11th. Spencer has dropped to 12th.

25. Lap 64 - Reutimann sneaks under Skinner into three to take the lead.

24. Lap 62 - Musgrave is off the pace, running well behind the pack.

23. Lap 59 - Restart. Reutimann is really putting on the pressure for the lead. Benson has moved to third with Sprague fourth.

22. Lap 56 - Hornaday is on pit road with the crew working hard on the right rear. Skinner leads Reutimann, Sprague, Benson, Kluever, Lester, Cook, crawford, Spencer, Craven, Bodine, Hamilton, Andretti, Starr, Whitt, Park, Gaughan, Crafton, Setzer, Wallace, Hines, Montgomery, Musgrave, Fedewa, chaffin, Keselowski and Renshaw.

21. Lap 53 - Peters gets turned right coming off turn four and makes hard contact with the front of his machine into the frontstretch wall. Pressley got into the right rear corner of Peters to initiate the wreck. Peters is out of his crashed truck and walking to the ambulance for a ride to the care center. Peters walks to the passing trucks and gestures to Pressley before climbing into the back of the meat wagon.

Toyota Tundra 200 Race Updates 31-40

08-13-2005  6:07 pm

40. Lap 117 - Lester leads on the restart. Reutimann sweeps around teammate Wallace and blows past Crafton to take second bu turn three. Skinner catches him at the line to take the spot.

39. Lap 115 - Spencer wins race off pit road, in front of Skinner, Bodine, benson, Gaughan, Sprague, Kluever, Musgrave, Setzer, Park, Crawford, Craven, Hornaday, Hamilton, Andretti, Montgomery, Hines, Fedewa, and Starr. Spencer is nabbed for speeding exiting pit road and will fall to the tail of the longest line. Lester leads with Crafton second and Wallace third, with the teams that pitted falling in behind.

38. Lap 112 - Reutimann slides way up the track in turn three before slowing and entering the pits. Reutimann leaves his pit stall and makes it to the start finish line just before Keselowski makes contact with the turn four wall to bring out the caution. Reutimann stays on the lead lap and when the field cycles through yellow flag stops, it is likely he will be leading.

37. Lap 108 - Sprague is boxed behind Renshaw and loses the spot to Bodine. Bodine then moves to the outside and sweeps past Skinner to second. Bodine is now 3.3 seconds behind leader Reutimann.

36. Lap 105 - Bodine passes Kluever to take over fourth. Reutimann is in some fairly heavy lapped traffic, but still leads by 2.1 seconds. Skinner, Sprague, Bodine, and Kluever are all bundled up for second with lapped traffic in the mix.

35. Lap 102 - Musgrave makes an impressive three wide move at the line to move into 8th. Park is now ninth with Setzer tenth.

Hines loses axle cover

08-13-2005  8:08 pm

Tracy Hines' hard crash late in the race was caused by a lost axle cap which allowed the left rear axle to shoot out of the rear end of his No. 13 Chevrolet.

"The found the cap and the axle out on the track," he said. "That was a pretty hard hit. It wasn't a lot of fun to sit and see those guys coming at me that fast."

Hines will race four times in the off week in his USAC Midget and Silver Crown cars before heading to Bristol.

Want some interviews? We have some!

08-13-2005  8:12 pm

Boy oh boy do we have interviews! We tracked down Bill Lester who was running second on the white flag lap to find out what his thoughts were about the last lap scrum that sent him back to seventh at the finish. We also got with Brendan Gaughan whose season has really turned around, and he carried on the momentum here with a great sixth-place run. Todd Kluever has been knocking on the door lately and he was on the stoop again here this week, but found himself fifth at the end - was he happy or wasn't he? How about Todd Bodine, again a fixture in the top-5 - he talks about what his last lap strategy was and how much fun he's had in his brother Geoffrey's bobsled. It's been a while since we've seen Ted Musgrave in the mix for a win, a fact that has seemed to have placed some added weight on his shoulders of late. A strong second left Musgrave with a big grin on his face and he told us all about his up and down day. Finally, everybody remembers the winner, right? We surely didn't forget! We sat down with David Reutimann and spoke to him about his day today...think he was excited? And who better to ask than Darrell Waltrip, Reutimann's owner and NASCAR legend, what his young driver is feeling after pulling into victory lane for the first time. It's all going to be in that magical little box to the right side of the page!
