Welcome to The Milwaukee Mile for round 11 of the 2005 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, the Toyota Tundra 200. There is a chance that we could have some showers/thunderstorms pop up, but we should be good to go for practice, qualifying, and the race. We'll keep you updated throughout the morning and afternoon, so keep it locked on to TrackSideLive! right here at TruckSeries.com.

06-24-2005  11:54 am

The first practice is underway with Todd Kluever, Robert Huffman, Terry Cook and Tracy Hines among the first on the speedway. We'll keep you updated...

Crossover dirt causing some nervousness

06-24-2005  11:56 am

The backstretch crossover has some dirt scattered across the speedway, just as the drivers are getting set to enter turn three. It is making for some nervous moments in the early moments of practice as several drivers have reported feeling a little skittish coming across the sand.

They Said It, Prac 1 No 1

06-24-2005  11:57 am

Terry Cook, No. 10 Ford: "It's really tight through the center and really good off."

Todd Kluever, No. 50 Ford: "It's trying to pick up the left front corner of the truck. We must have a lot of rebound in those shocks."

Steve Park, No. 62 Dodge: "It's chattering the tires through the middle and I am a little tight up off the corner."

They Said It Prac 1 No 2

06-24-2005  12:01 pm

David Reutimann, No. 17 Toyota: "It's tight coming off the corner under throttle."

Tony "Rambo" Liberati, crew chief, No. 77 Dodge: "Warm those rotors up and get some heat in those tires and then we'll let you get after it."

Matt Crafton, No. 88 Chevrolet: "I would try adding some wedge to help it rotate in the corner."

06-24-2005  12:10 pm

Bobby Hamilton is shaking down the No. 8 Dodge for Deborah Renshaw and had problems on the speedway coming out of turn four. He locked the truck down and slid on to pit road, nearly clipping the pit wall and coming to a stop in the middle of pit road. NASCAR has thrown the red flag to assist the crew in moving the truck out of the way.

Still Clean and Green

06-24-2005  12:43 pm

After Hamitlon's problems in the No. 8 Dodge earlier in the session, we have gone uninterrupted throughout the rest of the session. There are about 8 minutes remaining in the first practice, and we will have a rundown posted for you as soon as the trucks come to a stop in the garage.

Bodine still leads

06-24-2005  12:45 pm

Bodine is still atop the charts, with Chaffin second and Hamilton now third. Reutimann and Hornaday round out the top-5, with the top-15 remaining the same.

That concludes this session...

06-24-2005  12:53 pm

The call has come over the NASCAR radio channels..."Okay, that concludes this practice session for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, we will get back at it in one hour." Stay tuned for a complete rundown, which should be available momentarily.

No No. 43; No. 89 Needs to Practice

06-24-2005  1:04 pm

It looks like the No. 43 Curb-Agajanian Racing Chevrolet scheduled to be piloted by Johnny Sauter has been withdrawn.

The only truck not to make a practice run in the first session was the No. 89 Chevrolet driven by Tom Powers.  Powers needs to make an appearance on the track in the second session to be eligible to make a qualifying attempt later this evening.

With the 66 out, the 38 moves in

06-24-2005  1:10 pm

Now that the No. 66 Fiddleback Racing team is officially closed down and not here this weekend, that moves the No. 38 Red Horse Racing team into the top-30 teams that are eligible to be locked in to tonight's event.  NASCAR rules allow for teams outside of the top-30 in owner points to be eligible if one of the top-30 teams do not show up, as is the case here.

A little irony, anyone?

06-24-2005  1:31 pm

How ironic is it that the two drivers involved in the week's ride swapping find themselves first and second after the first practice session?  Anyone ese out there want to see Todd Bodine and Chad Chaffin line up next to one another on the front row for tonight's race and see who comes out first exiting turn 2?

Most laps

06-24-2005  1:33 pm

Who turned the most laps in the first session?

Stout, 41
Fontaine, 39
Yontz, 38
Sutton, 31
Kluever, 30
Sprague, 26
Starr, 25
Tucker, 25
Huffman, 22
Crawford, 22
Pressley, 22

Final Practice Up Next

06-24-2005  1:42 pm

The teams are buttoning up the adjustments on their trucks and getting ready for the final hour of practice for the Toyota Tundra 200.  Stay right here for continuing updates as the action unfolds, right here at TrackSideLive! presented by Team ASE.

On the Bubble...

06-24-2005  1:47 pm

With 40 trucks now entered, who would be on the bubble among the 10 teams that need to qualify based upon their time trial speed?

Chad Chaffin is well ahead of the pack, coming in second in Practice 1.  The next driver that needs to qualify in was Nick Tucker in the Brevak Racing Dodge in 23rd position. Shige Hattori was third and would be locked in, sitting 29h overall in Practice 1.  Then it starts getting tight.  Kelly Sutton was fourth, Justin Allgaier fifth, and the last driver in on speed would be Regan Smith in the No. 65 Dodge.  Sutton is 33rd, Allgaier 34th, and Smith 35th.  Missing the field would be Stout, Yontz, Bendele, and Powers.

Stout was 0.156 seconds behind Smith.

Final Practice is underway

06-24-2005  1:53 pm

The first trucks have rolled onto the famed Milwaukee Mile, led by Tracy Hines, David Starr, Jack Sprague, Dennis Setzer, and Regan Smith.  We'll have all the news and notes as it happens, keep your browser locked here!

Lots of Traffic Early On

06-24-2005  1:56 pm

The track is very busy in the early moments of practice.  Most teams were fighting tight conditions in the first practice, and with the heat of the day usually making the track loose, they expect the trucks to get even tighter during race conditions this evening.  We should see lots of long runs and lots of chassis adjustments in this second session.

Chaffin's Situation

06-24-2005  2:01 pm

Chad Chaffin finds himself in the unenviable position of needing to race his way into the race here this evening.  Due to the late acquisition of equipment, Chaffin is listed here as a post-entry and is not eligible for owner points or driver points.  That situation may change as the team makes their case with NASCAR officials in Daytona Beach at a later date.  They plan to discuss with NASCAR officials the possibility of carrying over Fiddleback Racing's owner points to the "new" team as well as the possibility of earning points based upon their finish here tonight.  The team may try to make a comparison between the situation Mike Skinner had last season as his team moved from the now-defunct Bang! Racing organization to Bill Davis Racing.  It is doubtful any resolution to this situation will be reached here this week.

UPDATE: Now hearing that the situation has been resolved and the team will start fresh with no owner points. Also, they will remain as a post-entry and not receive points for competing here this weekend.

Heat causing handling issues

06-24-2005  2:21 pm

Many drivers are fighting slippery track conditions as they try to find the setup that will take them to the front here this evening. "No one looks comfortable out there from what I am sitting," said Todd Kluever over his team radio. "Looks to me like a lot of guys are pushing. It is really slick out there because of all of this heat."

Powers Withdrawn

06-24-2005  2:26 pm

The No. 89 Lafferty Motorsports Chevrolet driven by Tommy Powers has been withdrawn. That leaves 39 trucks fighting for the 36 starting positions.

Mock Qualifying Runs going on now

06-24-2005  2:48 pm

It's always fun to watch the teams make their mock qualifying runs and see how it changes the speed charts.  Just in the past few moments, Jack Sprague, Mike Skinner, Matt Crafton and Brendan Gaughan all jumped into the top-4 positions.  Look for more changes as we still have a few more moments in the session.  We have a red flag on the track now for debris in turn one, and if we go back green look for more changes at the top.

Renshaw Wrecks Late in Session

06-24-2005  2:52 pm

With just a couple of moments remaining in the session, Deborah Reshaw had a problem in turn four and made contact with the outside wall.  Renshaw climbed into the ambulance and is being taken to the infield care center for evaluation.  We will follow up on her condition as soon as that information is available.

Renshaw Taken for Evaluation

06-24-2005  3:13 pm

The Milwaukee Mile's public relations director Jim Tretow has announced to the media in attendance that Deborah Renshaw, who was involved in an accident in turn four near the conclusion of the final practice here today, has been taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.  No word what, if any, her injuries may be.  If we receive any further updates, we will bring them to you as soon as we receive them.

Renshaw Update

06-24-2005  4:41 pm

Deborah Renshaw is still at a local hospital being evaluated for precautionary measures after a crash in the final practice.  Renshaw had just left the pits with new tires when she got up out of the groove and impacted the wall with the right side of the truck.  Still no word on what, if any, her injuries may be although she did get out of the truck under her own power.

If Renshaw cannot make it back for the race this evening, Timothy Peters will suit up and take the reins of the No. 8 Easy Care Dodge.

Post Practice Audio

06-24-2005  4:49 pm

It's a hot day and the drivers are seeking refuge in their transporters or even their motorcoaches, but the TrackSideLive! microphones are everywhere!  We tracked down several of the drivers we expect to be a factor here, and some of the pleasant surprises of the two early practice sessions, and you can hear their comments by checking out the Sights and Sounds box to the right.

Renshaw Back at Track; Decision to Race Made Soon

06-24-2005  5:09 pm

Deborah Renshaw is back at the track following some precautionary X-rays at a local hospital following a crash in the final practice.

"I am okay," she said.  "I got my foot knocked around the pedals when it hit and it hurts really bad.  They said I have some torn ligaments.  They told me not to race, but I am going to get in the truck and see how bad it is.  If it hurts too much, we'll put Timothy (Peters) in the truck."

6. Lap 8 - Kluever moves to fifth as Hornaday and Musgrave spend five laps side by side for sixth before Musgrave takes the spot. Truex is up to 27th.

5. Lap 5 - Kluever and Musgrave are hard at it for fifth, with Hornaday making it three wide off turn two.

Toyota Tundra 200 Race Updates 11-20

06-24-2005  9:29 pm

20 - Lap 100 - We are official should it rain. Clean and green to this point. Setzer leads Sprague, Musgrave, Hornaday and Gaughan, the only trucks on the lead lap.

19. Lap 90 - Setzer leads Sprague, Huffman, Musgrave, Hornaday, Gaughan, Smith, Kluever, and Reutimann. Craven nabbed for speeding, but he misses the commitment line as he comes to the pits for his pass thru penalty.

18. Lap 82 - Setzer pits and Reutimann leads as he stays out. Craven runs dry coming to pit road and loses valuable time as his crew pushes him down pit road. Hines has the hood up as he is stopped on pit road.

17. Lap 75 - Both Skinner and Bodine tagged for speeding and have to come back to pit road as most of the field is making its way to the pits for service.

16. Lap 68 - Setzer leads by more than two seconds as Skinner comes to pit road for the first of what could be a round of green flag pit stops. 32 laps to go before we are "official".

15. Lap 60 - Rundown by number: 46, 16, 30, 6, 1, 77, 50, 17, 75, 14, 59, 04, 62, 88, 60, 99, 10, 5, 12, 22, 23, 13, 2, 38, 4, 15, 29, 07, 63, 8, 91

14. Lap 55 - Musgrave passes Gaughan for fifth. Setzer leads Sprague, Bodine, and Hornaday.

13. Lap 51 - Musgrave passes Kluever on the outside through three and four to take sixth. Mongtomery is off the pace, on and off pit road several times. Yontz has also pitted several times and has falled well off the lead lap.

12. Lap 50 - Halfway to an "official" race with weather on the way. Truex is now 24th, one lap down.

11. Lap 43 - Setzer catches Sprague in traffic and moves around the outside in turns one and two to take the lead.

Toyota Tundra 200 Updates 21-30

06-24-2005  10:04 pm

28. Lap 180 - Setzer still leads Sprague as we have just 20 laps to go.

27. Lap 155 - Setzer again leads off the restart as Reutimann falls off the pace and runs at the tail of the pack.

26. Lap 145 - Sezter and Sprague pit alone as Hornaday and Musgrave stay out. Musgrave comes to pit road for service on lap 146 leaving Hornaday to stay out and lead a lap before pitting for his service. There is still heavy lightning off in the distance over turns three and four.

25. Lap 142 - Benson does a half spin in turn one and brings out the first caution of the night. Reutimann will receive the free pass and rejoin the lead lap, giving us five trucks to battle for the win.

24. Lap 141 - Huffman behind the wall.

23. Lap 125 - 46, 16, 1, 6, 17, 77, 62, 75, 50, 04, 30, 10, 65, 23, 59, 14, 88, 38, 2, 5, 22, 60, 07, 15, 12 8, 99, 63, 29, 4, 31, 08, 91, 61, 13, 18

22. Lap 112 - Setzer and Sprague run just a few truck lengths apart and are in a class of their own. Musgrave is third a full half lap back, while Hornaday is fourth, two thirds of a lap down.

21. Lap 108 - Lightning again off in the distance over three and four as Setzer pressures Gaughan to put the fifth place driver a lap down.

Unofficial Owners Points, Who's In and Who's Not

06-25-2005  12:31 am

A quick look at the owner's points to see who is locked in at Kansas and who needs to race their way in:

26. Darrell Waltrip Motorsports No. 12, 1019
27. Green Light Racing No. 08, 1017
28. ThorSport Racing No. 13, 974
29. Red Horse Racing No. 38, 968
30. Bobby Hamilton Racing No. 18, 965

31. BHR2 No. 8, 950*
32. Sutton Motorsports No. 02, 878
35. Mighty Motorsports No. 24, 633

Teams in 33rd (Morgan-Dollar Motorsports No. 47) and 34th (Germain-Arnold Racing No. 9) are not eligible due to not entering all of the events in 2005.

While the BHR2 No. 8 is 31st in owner points, they will be locked into the field this coming week in Kansas. The series rules call for the top-30 ELIGIBLE owners to be locked in to the field, and with the demise of the Fiddleback Racing No. 66 team earlier in the week, that means the next highest team in the standings now becomes eligible.

Let's Put a Period on It

06-25-2005  12:44 am

Dennis Setzer became the 10th different NASCAR Camping World Truck Series winner at The Milwaukee Mile with his victory in Friday night's Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200. Setzer passed pole starter Jack Sprague on the 44th of 200 laps around the one-mile oval - a position he abdicated only twice during pit stops. He beat Sprague by 3.993 seconds to record his 14th win on the series and second in succession. He averaged a race record 109.907 mph as a single caution consumed five laps. Ted Musgrave finished third in a Dodge, followed by Ron Hornaday Jr. and Brendan Gaughan. Setzer took an unofficial championship lead of 35 points over Bobby Hamilton, who finished sixth. There were five lead changes among four drivers.

With that, we're going to call it a night. Much thanks to all of the staff at The Milwaukee Mile for their hospitality, and we look forward to getting back after it in Kansas City this Friday when the NCTS is back in action with practice and qualifying for the O'Reilly 250. Keep it locked on to TruckSeries.com for all the news throughout the week and lock your browsers on to TrackSideLive! presented by Team ASE for all the action from Kansas. Until next weekend, good night everybody!
