Chris Wimmer's first trip to Atlanta Motor Speedway turned out to be an exciting one. After narrowing avoiding two major wrecks on lap 3, when the 67 of Steve Park and the 16 of Mike Bliss got together bringing out the red flag for 30 minutes, and on the final lap when a hugh crash erupts as the leaders cross the start finish line, he brought his # 08 Chevy Silverado home in the 17th place.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race from Atlanta scored a Nielsen rating of 1.09 (697,000 households), making it the fourth most watched NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race on SPEED since the series moved to the network in 2003.

Heading to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series' Easy Care Vehicle Service Contract 200 on Saturday, Kyle Busch knew he had a goal. That was to bring home the victory for Billy Ballew Motorsports and team owner Billy Ballew, who hails from nearby Blairsville, Ga., as well as the numerous sponsors Ballew had lined up, all locally-owned and operated businesses from the surrounding area. "Those guys got crazy there at the end of that race," Hamilton said after he crossed the finish line in the grass. "When you only have three laps left on a final restart, you have to go for it. One thing they need to learn though is to slow down when the caution comes out. We could have all been badly hurt because some people plowed into others not ever slowing down; thank goodness we were not." (Charles Krall/TruckSeries.com Photo)

Ted Musgrave posted a gritty performance in the EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday, overcoming two blown tires to notch a 14th-place finish and maintained a 51-point lead in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship race over second place Dennis Setzer.

|
"I knew when Kyle and Bobby got up there on new tires that it was going to be interesting but I did not quite think it would be that interesting at the end. I saw both Jack and Johnny both go sideways getting off of turn-four right in front of every body and than they started wrecking. I went for the middle of the track and I got lucky."

It was a premature conclusion to the race weekend for Steve Park and his No. 67 South Padre Island Toyota Tundra team late Saturday afternoon when a hit from another truck on the first circuit of the 130-lap competition sent Park’s truck spinning and then slamming into the outside wall. Other competitors worked to avoid the wreckage. While many succeeded, others ran out of room to run and hit the No. 67 truck, causing one of the trucks to burst into flames.

The No. 5 team has been the team to beat on the mile-and-a-half race tracks during the 2005 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series campaign. The team had a dominant truck at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the spring race, but a cut right-front tire put them out of the race. The team was determined to redeem themselves this weekend.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is a very special place to Bill Davis Racing driver Bill Lester. Not only does he call Atlanta home, but also Saturday was the 100th time Lester climbed behind the wheel of a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series machine.

A last-lap mishap that collected multiple trucks during the conclusion of Saturday's NASCAR Craftsman truck race at Atlanta Motor Speedway left Johnny Benson and his Allstar Financial Toyota race team waiting a good bit after the race was over to find out where they had finished. Luckily, Benson, retreated to the grass down the front stretch to avoid getting caught up in the late-race mayhem and not only kept his truck clean, but found out he had managed to hold on for a third-place finish, as well. In only his second start with Wyler Racing and Toyota, Jack Sprague was poised and in position to bring home his 26th career win in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. However, a dramatic finish on the last turn of the last lap relegated the three-time series champion to a fourth place finish in the running of the Easy Care Vehicle Service Contracts 200 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Deborah Renshaw, in the No. 8 Heritage Dodge, expanded her record of the number of laps lead by a female in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Saturday afternoon at the Atlanta Motor Speedway during the running of the EasyCare 200. While leading lap 46 Renshaw became the 37th different leader this year extending the all-time number of lead changes in the Series. (Ronda Greer Photo)

Since May, Brandon Whitt has found a groove that's helping him and the team meet their goal of consistency, as well as their goal of finishing in the top five and top 10. This weekend's trip to Atlanta was another smooth success with the No. 38 Tundra finishing eighth, their third straight top-10 finish, making them one of the hottest current front-running teams in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Robert Pressley, driving the No. 59 Harris Trucking Dodge, managed a 27th place finish in the Easy Care 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon. The team's struggles continued on the 1.5-mile tracks, though they did bring a brand new chassis to the race.

|
|
Matt Crafton started a career worst 35th, but major adjustments to the No. 88 Menards/SealBest Chevrolet put him in a position to win the EasyCare 200 NASCAR Truck series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway before contact with another truck damaged the nose of his truck, changing the aerodynamic balance and relegating him to 22nd-place at the finish.

|
|
Tracy Hines fought a loose truck in race traffic and drove the ThorSport Racing No. 13 David Zoriki Inc. Chevrolet to 26th in the EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Hines was able to stay out of trouble all afternoon and miss the several incidents throughout the day and picked up several positions late as problems struck several others.

Billy Ballew might seem an unlikely choice to raise Chevrolet's flag to the top of the pole but the Atlanta-area native's Silverado, driven to victory by Kyle Busch Saturday at Atlanta Motor Speedway, clinched a sixth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series manufacturer championship for GM. David Reutimann finished in 33rd-place after his engine expired on Lap 8 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Atlanta Motor Speedway. "Something broke in the engine," said Reutimann. "I can't say anything negative about Toyota. We've been doing this for two years and this is only the second one I've broke. Toyota gives us great horsepower all the time. (High Sierra Photo)

Life imitated art Saturday as Kyle Busch passed Jack Sprague in the last turn of the final lap to capture the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The finish - which saw Busch pit for tires and go from ninth to Sprague's tailgate in two-plus laps - was something right off the silver screen. Days of Thunder to be exact, according to Busch, who kept his National Land Acquisition/Krud Kutter Chevrolet moving forward despite being crowded into the outside wall by Sprague's unsuccessful squeeze play. "That was more or less like Rowdy Burns from Days of Thunder," said Busch, who won for the third time aboard Atlanta native Billy Ballew's largely unsponsored truck that. Ironically, it gave Chevrolet its sixth series manufacturer championship. "He ran me up into the fence and I just had to keep my foot in it." (Teresa Kirkendall/High Sierra Photo)

After two consecutive finishes of 24th or worse, a race on a fast, mile-and-a-half speedway was exactly what the doctor ordered for Brendan Gaughan and the Jasper Engines & Transmissions team.

|
Scott Lynch went to school at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Saturday’s EasyCare 200 and when the checkers flew he had earned a 25th place finish and a solid “A” for effort. Competing in just his sixth Craftsman Truck Series race, Lynch turned his first laps at the 1.54-mile speedway during Friday’s morning practice session and he quickly found out how tricky AMS can be with so many racing grooves to choose from.

|
What should have been a good finish for Todd Kluever took a frightening turn as the race ended. Kluever was coming out of turn four on the final lap as several trucks spun in front of him. Although he finished sixth, he took several hard hits while crossing the finish line. Kluever started his No. 50 Shell Rotella® T Ford F-150 in fourth place. 30-minute red flag delayed the race after only two laps for a three-truck accident that happened behind Kluever. The momentum Ricky Craven gained with his win at Martinsville last weekend carried over to the race at Atlanta with another top-10 finish. He made it through an accident on the final lap to come away with a ninth-place finish. Craven started the race from 20th place. He did not get a chance to get a feel for the truck before the race was delayed for 30 minutes after an accident on the second lap of the race. (Charles Krall/TruckSeries.com Photo)

In only his second NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start, Joey Miller avoided a last lap multi-truck accident on the frontstretch to collect his first top-10 finish of his career in the No. 12 Toyota Tundra at Atlanta Motor Speedway. "We had a truck capable of running in the top-10 and we finished tenth," said Miller. "It shows you how good this team really is." (Charles Krall/TruckSeries.com Photo)

When Saturday’s EasyCare 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race had concluded at the Atlanta Motor Speedway many of the race trucks in the garage area looked more like they had just run a half-mile short track rather than a mile-and-a-half speedway due to a major accident as the field came to the checkered flag.

With Kyle Busch's victory today in the EasyCare Vehicle Service Contracts 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Chevrolet Silverado clinched their sixth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Manufacturers Championship. The title makes a clean sweep for the Bowtie Brand in 2005 NASCAR competition. The win is Busch's third NCTS victory in 2005 in just eight starts. (High Sierra Photo)

"I've heard I've been from fifth to seventh so far. It was a pretty good day for us with our Shell Rotella T truck. We were as high as third, and for the first part of the race we really had a good truck. We just really couldn't get it do exactly what I needed it to do to run better than that. That ending there, I came off of four and I saw the 60 truck sideways going across the start-finish line."

Todd Kluever in The No. 50 Shell Rotella T Ford was the Raybestos Rookie of the Race at Atlanta. Kluever finished sixth, his 10tth top-10 finish in 2005. He took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the 16th time in 22 races. "The first run we were good and everybody just got a little better."

What happened on the last lap?
"I'm not real sure. I knew some of them guys got tires and it was going to be big. The last three laps I run wide open through Turns One and Two. I knew he was going to go high, so I tried to go to the middle of the race track. He went outside of me and got me loose -- and I just stayed in. There was nothing I could do.

Randy Seals:
“Basically, the rule is that we cannot do anything, we can’t go to the racetrack at all unless we are at least minimum Goodyear recommended on the right front and right front only.”
Mike Beam:
“We knew about it last week. We tried to adjust for it a little bit, through spring rates and shocks and sway bars."

Mike Skinner did his best General Sherman impression and stormed through the field to pick up the Bud Pole Award for today's Easy Care Vehicle Services Contracts 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Skinner ran a lap of 30.363 seconds/182.591 miles per hour to pick up his series leading sixth pole of 2005. Skinner started third here in Atlanta in the spring, but had the dominant truck early on before a punctured right front tire sent him into the turn four wall and out of contention. Skinner knocked off series points leader Ted Musgrave, who will fire off from outside the front row after a lap of 30.458 seconds/182.021 miles per hour. Brandon Whitt matched his qualifying performance at Martinsville and will line up third, which is his best career start on a 1.5-mile track. Todd Kluever has been strong all season long on the mile-and-a-half speedways and continued his streak of performances with a fourth-place run, while two-time 2005 winner Kyle Busch will round out the top five starters in Atlanta native Billy Ballew's Chevrolet. Talk about Atlanta, you're practice today, qualifying tomorrow, and your strategy for the race. Musgrave:
"The mockup runs kind of mean something here at Atlanta but then they don't. If you don't have a fast truck, you are kind of in trouble here at Atlanta."
Setzer:
" Most anyone who has a decent truck can go out there and hold it wide open for a couple of qualifying laps here at Atlanta." (High Sierra Photo)

|
|
"Practice was a little up and down. We searched really hard with our Silverado mostly on race runs. We put stickers on there and turned a respectable lap so if we can start there in the top 10, we will be pretty happy about that and then go race."
-Dennis Setzer

|
"This is my first time in a Tundra. It runs pretty good. I'm just enjoying it. We'll try to get in the field, and then go racing." "I think there's more of an adjustment going from one team to another team, rather than going from one manufacturer to another. This team is a new bunch of people -- some I know and some I don't know."

The Silly Season moves that used to be reserved for the off-season have made their way to the middle of the season these days, and it is certainly in evidence in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series here at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The first shoe to drop was the release of Jack Sprague from the No. 16 Chevrolet by Xpress Motorsports. Sprague then replaced Chad Chaffin, who was a part of the musical chairs in June when he and Todd Bodine basically swapped rides. Steve Park was the next driver to make waves, as he departed the Orleans Racing No. 62 Dodge and was replaced by West coast rookie Scott Lynch. Park didn't stay in the unemployment line long, as he showed up here in Atlanta driving a fourth Toyota truck for Bill Davis Racing. (Ronda Greer Photo)

The first practice session was good. That's a brand new truck for us. We tested it at Chicago and I've been really, really happy with it.
-Todd Kluever
"The truck's not bad, just a little loose right now. They're working on it trying to get us better. I think we'll be all right when we roll out for the next practice and hopefully we'll be good for tomorrow's race.
-Timothy Peters

As hard as it might be to believe Brendan Gaughan has never raced a Craftsman Truck at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The fast Atlanta track was added to the Craftsman Truck Series schedule in 2004 when the tour made just one early season appearance. Gaughan was shut out for this event earlier this year when his No. 77 lacked the owner’s history needed under NASCAR’s new for 2005 starting rules.
