Breakthrough Victory Keeps Toyota Moving Forward 08-15-2005 8:47 am
Breakthrough Victory Keeps Toyota Moving Forward Two into Turn 3 wasn’t going to go and everybody – even race leader Mike Skinner – knew it. But Skinner, hung in the outside groove by a charging David Reutimann, gave his Toyota the gas anyway as he attempted to win his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race since 1996. Of course, it didn’t work. With the white flag in sight, Skinner slipped up the concrete banking of Nashville Superspeedway and instead of winning wound up fourth behind Reutimann, Ted Musgrave and Todd Bodine. The victory, worth $52,110, was the first on the series for the 35-year-old Reutimann, the 2004 Raybestos Rookie of the Year. It also rewarded team owner and Nashville resident Darrell Waltrip, who coincidentally was Grand Marshal of the Toyota Tundra 200. (Ronda Greer Photo)

NASCAR Race Review: Nashville Superspeedway 08-15-2005 12:29 am
With Darrell Waltrip Motorsports’ victory, four different Toyota teams have shared in the manufacturer’s seven series wins – four last year and three in 2005. Bill Davis Racing is one of two current teams pitching a goose egg but that may be about to change. Skinner finished fourth at Nashville with teammates Bill Lester and Johnny Benson seventh and eighth, respectively. That’s the first time that Bill Davis Racing has put all three entries into the top 10. Lester also was a major victim of the lap 149 shuffle, going from third to seventh in the space of a few hundred yards. Todd Kluever and Brendan Gaughan advanced to fifth and sixth.

With just over 30 laps remaining, the penalty proved costly for "Mr. Excitement" – saddling the NASCAR veteran with a 16th-place finish.

Chevrolet Race Notes: Nashville Superspeedway 08-14-2005 11:03 pm
"What can I say. This was just one of those races where we couldn't get it the way we needed it. It was a frustrating afternoon for the GM Goodwrench team, but we made the best out of a tough situation. I thought that we would have run a little better, but that is just what happens sometimes. About halfway through we made some adjustments and got it going, but something caught on fire and smoked up the inside of my truck. I couldn't see and trucks started passing me on the bottom. That was end of our chances. We now have to start thinking about our next race and getting this No. 6 team back into victory lane." - Ron Hornaday

Reutimann Reels In First Win at Nashville 08-14-2005 1:43 pm
Reutimann Reels In First Win at Nashville “The Lord was smiling on us and this was meant to happen,” said Reutimann. “We went from having a great truck to having a right front flat tire. We pitted under green for two right side tires and then the yellow came out. It saved us. It’s just a thrill to be able to deliver a victory for our sponsors NTN and Toyota. It’s hard for me to believe. I have to keep reminding myself it’s not a dream. I’m so happy for Bobby Kennedy, Jason Overstreet and all the guys at Darrell Waltrip Motorsports. This is really special.” -David Reutimann (High Sierra Photo)

Toyota Race Notes: Nashville Superspeedway 08-14-2005 4:15 am
“It’s a phenomenal day. I have to thank this guy right here (Darrell Waltrip) for hiring me, and giving me a chance -- even when I was making mistakes, and he was pulling his hair out. We’re here today because of that. It’s been a long time coming and hopefully, we’ll be able to get some more wins now that we have one under our belt.” “This is by far the biggest thing that has ever happened to me in my life -- other than getting called at home by Darrell Waltrip one night and being asked to drive his truck. Although, this ranks right up there with that. The timing was right.  DW being here and it being Toyota’s race.  You can’t ask for anything more.  I’m not going to ask for any more.  I’m blessed to be sitting here." -David Reutimann

Ford Race Notes: Nashville 08-13-2005 7:33 pm
“It’s definitely a confidence booster to run in the top five everywhere we go now.  What’s enabling me to do it is Mike Beam, and Hal Ralston (engineer) and Steve McCain (truck chief) just giving me really good trucks off the trailer that drive awesome.  It helps me speed my learning curve up so much because I don’t have to worry about learning how to drive a track with an ill-handling truck.  I have to thank those guys for that; they’re making me look really good right now.  Hopefully I’m doing my part to make them look really good right now, and we’re just having a lot of fun.” - Todd Kluever

Reutimann Makes Last Lap Move to Win at Nashville 08-13-2005 7:09 pm
David Reutimann holding Nashville Guitar David Reutimann dove inside leader Mike Skinner coming to the white flag and held off several drivers fighting a furious battle for second to pick up his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win in the Toyota Tundra 200 at Nashville Superspeedway. Reutimann and Skinner narrowly avoided disaster late in the race when Tracy Hines dropped oil through turn three, and when Skinner got in the fluid and brushed the wall it slowed his truck just enough on the last green flag run to give Reutimann the advantage to pull off to his initial series win. Reutimann was coming to the pits with a soft tire on lap 110 when Brad Keselowski got into the wall in turn four to bring out the caution. Reutimann's crew aborted a planned four tire stop and went with two tires when the caution waved and Reutimann narrowly beat Skinner to the start finish line to maintain his lead lap status. When the leaders pitted, Reutimann ended up fourth on the track and that track position helped propel him to victory. (High Sierra Photo)

Chevy Qualifying Notes: Nashville Superspeedway 08-13-2005 4:16 pm
“We are happy with our qualifying effort.  Starting near the front is important at every track and Nashville Superspeedway is no exception.  We have a great race setup under our Chevy Trucks Silverado. We had a chance to make some changes during practice yesterday just to see what they would do; which isn’t always the case.  I feel really good about today’s race. I think we will have a strong truck and get a good finish.” - Jack Sprague

Hamilton Glad to Be Back in Hometown 08-09-2005 11:37 pm
Hamilton Glad to Be Back in Hometown “I’m glad to stay at home this weekend. We’ve were gone most of last week doing a race with Ken Schrader in Pevely, then on to Indy for the Craftsman Truck and Nextel Cup race. So it is good to be back home and have what seems like a normal week. I can go to the shop everyday and get some work done to get caught up. Nashville is one of my favorite places to race. I don’t know if that is because I finally won a guitar last year or just because of the speed of the track. The guitar is definitely one of my favorite trophies I own." -Bobby Hamilton (Ronda Greer Photo)

Kluever Ready for First Truck Start at Nashville 08-09-2005 11:17 pm
Kluever Ready for First Truck Start Nashville "This will be my first race at Nashville, and I'm looking forward to it.  I've really enjoyed the races at the intermediate tracks so I have high expectations for this race as well.  We had planned a test there, but decided to cancel it since we had run so well at some of the other intermediate tracks.  We decided it would be best to save our tests for places where we think we might need the extra help.  We are going to Bristol this week for a one-day test since that track will really be a new experience for me." -Todd Kluever (Ronda Greer Photo)

Victory: Priority No. 1 For Musgrave 08-09-2005 5:55 pm
Victory: Priority No. 1 For Musgrave For Ted Musgrave (No. 1 Mopar Dodge), Nashville Superspeedway has been a case of close but no guitar. Musgrave has done everything except win Saturday’s Toyota Tundra 200 and the traditional – and much sought-after – Gibson guitar trophy. Ranked second in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points standings, Musgrave is four-for-four in top-three finishes on the 1.333-mile banked concrete oval. He finished second in 2001 and 2003. Maybe this will be the year the 49-year-old competitor sheds the bridesmaid role. It wouldn’t be a bad time, either, to re-energize Musgrave’s championship bid. “We need a couple of wins,” said Musgrave, whose only victory came April 30 at Gateway International Raceway. “That’s No. 1 on my list.” (High Sierra Photo)

Craven, No. 99 Ford Nashville Preview 08-09-2005 1:15 pm
"I'm really happy to have chassis 41 back for the Nashville race. We had some very good runs with that truck before and now hopefully it will be even better. We had a strong run going at Michigan before the accident. "I've not raced at Nashville before but I have tested there. It is a great race track and I anticipate that we will be able to find some speed there. I've never been there in a Craftsman Truck, but I've tested there in the past in a Cup car. -Ricky Craven

Pressley Headed to Nashville with "Proven Truck" 08-09-2005 12:56 am
“I’m really looking forward to Nashville because we’re bringing the same truck we used last weekend at IRP. In every race we’ve been in with that chassis, we’ve run in the top-10 and both our best finishes have come with it. It’s a proven truck for us now. Nashville will be a lot of fun to figure out this weekend and hopefully we can keep some momentum going from last weekend.” -Robert Pressley
