Almirola Shines at Indianapolis Raceway Park 08-09-2005 11:55 am
Almirola Shines at Indianapolis Raceway Park When hours of rain cancelled scheduled practice and qualifying for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park, there was a look of apprehension on the face of 21-year old Aric Almirola. The second-year driver from Joe Gibbs Racing’s diversity racing team prepared to make his second attempt at qualifying the No. 47 Home Depot Silverado fielded by Morgan-Dollar Motorsports, but the only laps Almirola had around the very tricky short track were from a one-day test session the previous week that was also interrupted by rain. Renshaw Tested at IRP 08-09-2005 12:12 am
Deborah Renshaw knew that the Craftsman Truck Series race on Friday night at the Indianapolis Raceway Park would be a tough short track battle and it lived up to her expectations. Renshaw was tested all night as she drove her No. 8 EasyCare DODGE to a 27th place finish in the running of the Power Stroke Diesel 200.

Despite Spin, Hamilton Brings it Home 13th at IRP 08-08-2005 4:01 pm
Defending NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Bobby Hamilton overcame a tight chassis condition on his No. 04 Bailey’s Dodge and an early scrape with the turn four wall to post a solid 13th place finish in the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Friday night. Hamilton maintained his third place position in the race for the 2005 NCTS championship and closed to within two scant points of 2nd place Ted Musgrave.

Peters, No. 4 Dodge IRP Review 08-08-2005 3:58 pm
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie of the year candidate Timothy Peters was left singing the familiar refrain, “If it weren’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all,” after Friday night’s Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Peters cut a tire on his No. 4 Bailey’s Dodge just 13 laps into the event forcing him to come down pit road for left side tires and placing three laps down to the leaders.

Montgomery, No. 18 Dodge IRP Review 08-08-2005 2:49 pm
BHR Driver Chase Montgomery went to school Friday night during the running of the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Montgomery started the event in 30th place after qualifying was washed out due to rain and the field was set by NASCAR Camping World Truck Series owner’s points. He overcame a tight condition and became more accustomed to the many grooves of the short track to bring the No. 18 Dodge home in 21st position. It is Montgomery’s ninth top 25 finish of the season.

Fedewa Finishes 20th in Truck Series Debut at IRP 08-08-2005 2:03 pm
Tim Fedewa made an impressive debut behind the wheel of the No. 65 Glynn Motorsports Dodge during the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park this past Friday night. Fedewa, a veteran of the NASCAR Busch Series, was making only his second career NCTS start. The Holt, MI native ran as high as third during the race, eventually finishing 20th in the event.

Chaffin, No. 60 Toyota IRP Review 08-08-2005 1:11 pm
Chad Chaffin and his Wyler Racing team left Indianapolis Raceway Park pleased with their performance on Friday night despite not achieving the desired finish. While Chaffin piloted his No. 60 Toyota Tundra out to the lead for various laps late, a green flag pit stop put Chad back into the field and he came home with a 21st place finish in the running of the Power Stroke Diesel 200.

Skinner, No. 5 Toyota IRP Review 08-08-2005 1:09 pm
The No. 5 team headed to IRP with a boost of confidence. The team knew driver Mike Skinner knew how to get his Tundra around the short track. In his first two events at the .686-mile track Mike Skinner went to Victory Lane leading every lap. The No. 5 Bill Davis Racing team has been working overtime on its short-track program and knew this would be a gauge of how they were doing.

Lester, No. 22 Toyota IRP Review 08-08-2005 1:06 pm
Friday night at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP), Bill Lester and his No. 22 Crown Royal Toyota Tundra team took a gamble and it paid off, coming away from IRP with a top-20 finish still holding on to their top-20 position in the championship standings.

Benson, No. 23 Toyota IRP Review 08-08-2005 1:01 pm
The No. 23 Toyota Certified Used Vehicles team headed to Indianapolis Raceway Park under the guidance of new crew chief, Rick Ren. The team unloaded their Tundra, but did not see track time for over six hours due to weather.

Power Stroke Diesel 200 - Official Results 08-08-2005 11:53 am
Dennis Setzer in Victory Lane Dennis Setzer put on a performance reminiscent of his win earlier this season at Milwaukee and dominated to pick up fourth win of the 2005 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season in the Power Stroke Diesel 200 Friday night at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Setzer led from the pole and only gave up the lead during a mid-race round of green flag pit stop to pick up his 16th career NCTS win.

Setzer led the majority of the laps, but he was forced to race first Jimmy Spencer and then Todd Kluever in a heated stretch of green flag racing between the fourth and fifth caution flags of the evening. Spencer stayed out trying to stretch his tires to the end, but Setzer quickly caught and passed Spencer with new rubber on with 20 laps to go. But that was not all she wrote for Setzer, and he then had to fight off a hard challenge from leading rookie contender Kluever.

Kluever dipped to the inside several times and ran alongside Setzer, and was even with Setzer going down the backstretch when the final caution of the night waved when Kelly Sutton spun down the backstretch with 13 laps remaining..

Ron Hornaday and Spencer had a hard battle for third that resulted in Hornaday taking the spot and Spencer sliding into the turn one wall. The two had a discussion on pit road following the race, but Spencer left with a smile after recording his third top-5 finish of the season. Spencer did drop back to fifth late in the going after Matt Crafton swept past to take over fourth to record his best finish of the season.

Setzer continues to put a stranglehold on the championship as several of his main contenders in the standings had a frustrating night. Ted Musgrave had a long evening fighting handling difficulties and finished 14th, while Bobby Hamilton was also off the pace tonight and came home just one spot better in 13th.

Rick Crawford finish sixth, with Robert Pressley fighting Brendan Gaughan to the line for seventh. Jack Sprague recovered from two pit road speeding violations under the green flag pit stop sequence to finish ninth, and rookie Aric Almirola rounded out the top-10. (High Sierra Photo)

Pressley Races to Season Best Finish at IRP 08-08-2005 10:39 am
Pressley Races to Season Best Finish at IRP The Power Stroke Diesel 200 event at Indianapolis Raceway Park marked the final Edy's Ice Cream sponsored ride in 2005 for HT Motorsports, of which spanned a six-race stretch this summer. Driver Robert Pressley finished a season-best seventh place to send them out in style. It was the second top-ten of the season for the team, with the first coming at Gateway International Raceway back in May. "This was a real good night for us and for the Edy's folks," said Pressley, after climbing from his truck. (High Sierra Photo)

Gaughan Finishes 8th at IRP 08-08-2005 10:14 am
Gaughan Finishes 8th at IRP Brendan Gaughan’s eighth place finish at Indianapolis Raceway Park will look pretty good in the year end summary but if he could have done one thing different, he would have made his green flag pit stop just one lap sooner. If he had, he may just have celebrated his first victory of the season. Rain earlier in the day cancelled the first two practice sessions and forced NASCAR to set the starting grid according to the rulebook and that meant an 19th place starting position for his No. 77 Jasper Engines Dodge. (High Sierra Photo)

Bodine Finishes 15th at IRP 08-08-2005 10:09 am
Late race contact ended Todd Bodine’s chances of a top-10 finish Friday night in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the Indianapolis Raceway Park.  The Germain Racing Toyota Tundra truck struggled from the start of the 200 lap event after rain played havoc with practice and qualifying schedules for the one-day NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event.

Crawford Muscles to a Top 10 Finish at IRP 08-08-2005 10:01 am
Crawford Muscles to a Top 10 Finish at IRP A light rain washed out qualifying for the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP) and relegated a fast Circle Bar Truck Corral F-150 to a 17th starting position.  A short practice session gave crew chief Kevin "Cowboy" Starland and driver Rick Crawford enough time to dial in their Ford and to know they had a good race truck.  From the drop of the green flag Crawford picked his way through traffic working into the top 10. (Team PR Photo)

Night Ends Early for Andretti at Indy 08-08-2005 9:51 am
John Andretti would probably rather forget his most recent trip back home to Indianapolis.  Andretti made his third start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP) in the Billy Ballew Motorsports-entry Friday night.  Contact with the turn three wall on lap 23 ended the night for Andretti and the No. 15 Stoops Freightliner/Pedigo Chevrolet/Associated Builders and Contractors team which resulted in a 36th place finish.

Crafton Scores Second Top-5 of 2005 at IRP 08-08-2005 9:40 am
Crafton Scores Second Top-5 of 2005 at IRP Matt Crafton raced the ThorSport Racing No. 88 Menards Chevrolet to fourth place in the Power Stroke Diesel 200 NASCAR Truck Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Friday night.  Crafton, who lined up tenth for the race after qualifying was washed out and the field was set by the series’ rulebook, stayed in the top-10 all night long and used a lightning fast green flag pit stop to jump into the top-5. When a late-race caution fell with less than 30 laps to go, Crafton picked up the free pass to rejoin the lead lap and locked himself into his second top-5 finish of 2005. (High Sierra Photo)

Kluever Finishes Second at Indianapolis 08-08-2005 9:22 am
Kluever Finishes Second at IRP Todd Kluever came within 0.418 seconds of winning his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race Friday night at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Kluever challenged Dennis Setzer for the lead in the final laps of the race, but came up just a little short and finished second. Kluever started the race in 16th place based on owner’s points since qualifying was rained out earlier in the day. The No. 50 Shell Rotella® T Ford F150 was pretty good all night and it did not take Kluever long to work his way to the front of the field. He cracked the top 10 by lap 46, and was up to fifth place by lap 82. (High Sierra Photo)

Veteran Edges Rookie for IRP Victory 08-08-2005 7:53 am
Veteran Edges Rookie for IRP Victory Dennis Setzer posted his fourth victory of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season Friday night as he held off a determined Todd Kluever at the finish of the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Setzer, who started on the pole by virtue of leading the series point standings after inclement weather washed away qualifying, led three times for 177 laps around the .686-mile paved oval. Setzer, driving the Chevrolet Silverado Chevrolet, held a nine-second lead when the race’s fourth caution closed the field on the 171st lap. The 45-year-old Newton, N.C. driver pitted for fresh tires and gave up track position to Jimmy Spencer but regained the lead at lap 182. (Ronda Greer Photo)

Park, No. 62 Dodge Race Recap: Indianapolis 08-06-2005 5:00 pm
Attempting to make a pit stop under green flag conditions, Park’s truck slowed at the entrance to pit road and then stalled outright. With no caution flag to help his plight, Park lost 11 laps awaiting rescue. When the checkers flew Park was given credit for a 30th place finish.

Trouble Ends Hines' Strong Run Early at Indianapolis 08-06-2005 4:56 pm
“We pitted and started at the tail and we knew we had to go. The truck went anywhere I needed it to go and we just started picking them off. With about 80 laps to go they told me we were starting to push some smoke out of the pipes and it started to lay down a little. We came in and looked at it and there was some sort of oil leak. It was a shame because we had a truck that could have raced into the top-10.”

Whitt Fights Back from Early Problems to 24th at IRP 08-06-2005 4:53 pm
“We didn’t really get a chance to figure out how our truck was going to be for the night before we had some contact that hurt the right front. The guys worked hard to reset the tow and get the truck handling, but that’s pretty hard to do when you beat up the front end of a truck up as bad as we did ours. We were all hoping we’d get to put on a better show tonight, but instead we got to face some situations and work them out as a team, and we did great.”

Hard Driving, Pit Strategy Bring Spencer Home Fifth at Indy 08-06-2005 3:29 pm
Hard Driving, Pit Strategy Bring Spencer Home Fifth at Indy Jimmy Spencer wheeled the No. 2 Team ASE/Ultra Wheels Dodge to a hard-fought fifth-place finish in Friday night’s Power Stroke Diesel 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park.  Spencer started the event from the sixth position after rain washed out qualifying – setting the starting field by Owner points.  Spencer would keep his truck among the Top-5 all night long. (Ronda Greer Photo)

Toyota Race Notes: IRP 08-06-2005 1:39 am
“It was a real long night.  We just weren’t any good at all -- all night long.  The guys just kept plugging away, never giving up, and we made the truck better.  I think we got to the point where we just couldn’t adjust it any more.  We didn’t give up and we just kept going at it.  We decided that we’d only lose a couple positions if we pitted near the end (lap 189) and put on new tires and we moved back up there and finished 11th. We salvaged a pretty decent finish out of a night that was looking horrible. -David Reutimann

Ford Race Notes: IRP 08-06-2005 12:20 am
“Starting 17th, where we started, the Circle Bar guys worked hard and it was a fun truck to drive tonight.  Mr. Mitchell told me Monday in our meeting that this week in IRP - he’s fond of this place because he raced over at The Brickyard with his Indy car - and he told me that this weekend in Indy needs to be a confidence builder for the team.  We brought one of our finest trucks here and worked hard on it that hour of practice we had for racing only.  For it to be able to race different places on the race track to pass, it did its job all night long." -Rick Crawford

Chevy Race Notes: IRP 08-06-2005 12:11 am
“Our Chevrolet Silverado was really good all night but my guys helped me win this thing with some awesome pit stops.  My hat is off to Eric (Phillips, crew chief) and the guys.  If I was losing a little on the track, they gave it back to me on pit stops.  I just had a great truck under me all night.  We worked really hard tonight in that short one-hour practice we had late this afternoon. I am just so proud of this entire Team Silverado effort. “I am kind of nervous about the championship thing right now, I am not sure what to do.  We have to keep focusing on each race as they come. -Dennis Setzer

Rookie Race Notes: IRP 08-05-2005 11:59 pm
“It was a really good day for the Shell Rotella T Ford.  Mike Beam and the crew have been with me for four weeks and we’ve been running in the top-five.  That last caution killed us.  I was trying really hard.  I thought we were going to have it there.  That last caution was really the death of us.  I was a little bit too tight there at the end.  I thought tonight was going to be the night.  I’m pretty disappointed it’s not.  We’ve been running pretty well so hopefully it will come soon. “I think the 46 probably got his tires real hot trying to pass the 2 and I just kind of came flying through there so it didn’t take me as long.” -Todd Kluever

Park's Ties to IRP are a Decade Deep in History Many folks might not realize it but Indianapolis Raceway Park is one of the cornerstones to Steve Park’s illustrious NASCAR career. Not only is IRP a place where Park got to shine before a ravenous race crowd but it is also a link to commonality to the Orleans Racing team when he made a start here in 1995 with Walker Evans Racing. Of course the Evans Family and the Gaughan family have shared many war stories together in off-road racing, and is the team that gave teammate Brendan Gaughan his start on his well-known career. Benson, No. 23 Toyota Preview: Indianapolis 08-02-2005 6:34 pm
“I’ve run at IRP a couple of times. I ran there back in 1995 with Kurt Roehrig in his truck and finished second, and we had a couple of good runs there in the Busch car. We struggled a bit last year in the truck. Hopefully, when we go back there, we’ve learned enough to be a positive, and we can have a good run.

“I am looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the #32 WINFUEL Chevy this weekend, especially since we are racing at IRP. The WINFUEL team has given me fast, competitive cars each of the three times that I’ve driven for them this season, but we seem to have had our share of bad luck. Hopefully this weekend we can put it all together and take the WINFUEL Chevy to Victory Lane.”

The schedule does not allow us much free time so you must be on top of your game. I expect us to be fast off the trailer." -Chase Montgomery

Chevy Preview: Indianapolis 08-02-2005 1:07 pm
Chevy Preview: Indianapolis The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park (IRP) has produced some of the most exciting races with thrilling finishes in the series 10-year history. The 0.686-mile virtually flat oval just east of Indianapolis has been on the NCTS since the inaugural 1995 season. IRP is a challenging track that plays favorably to veteran drivers. It is a difficult to pass and if a driver gets out of the preferred line, they can lose several positions in one set of corners. Having a truck that handles and gets good drive off the corners is critical. (Ronda Greer Photo)

Hamilton Attempting Double Duty at Indianapolis 08-02-2005 12:46 am
Hamilton Attempting Double Duty at Indianapolis “We have been working on some chassis stuff for my trucks and ended up building a cup car. We tested it in Indy and ran pretty fast with it.  When I got it back home, I had the guys tear it down to see why we were so fast.  It surprised me, but made me aware that my teams can compete.  It’s our first in-house car. We built it ourselves; we bought the chassis from PPI (Motorsports) and then put on our front and rear clips.  We have a very good truck organization, but I’m smart enough to know that experience is what counts, and running a Cup team week in and week out is huge." -Bobby Hamilton (Ronda Greer Photo)

Skinner Aims to Regain Form at IRP 08-01-2005 7:30 pm
Skinner Aims to Regain Form at IRP Mike Skinner (No. 5 Toyota Tundra Toyota) personified the word “domination” at Indianapolis Raceway Park in 1995 and ‘96. Skinner led all 350 laps in winning the first two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events held at the .686-mile oval. But memories, no matter how sweet, are exactly that. Skinner, among five former IRP winners entered in Friday night’s Power Stroke Diesel 200, hasn’t scored a victory in the season-and-a-half he’s spent at Bill Davis Racing. Maybe this will be the week; maybe not. “I think IRP fits my driving style. I love short tracks,” said Skinner. “I feel like I am a better short-track racer I do not think our program is where it needs to be to capitalize on them.” (Ronda Greer Photo)

Chaffin, No. 60 Toyota Preview: Indy 08-01-2005 5:10 pm
“IRP is my type of race track and our strong runs there in the past show that. It reminds me of my days of racing at the old Nashville Fairgrounds where I really cut my teeth and learned so much about this sport. Last year the win at IRP on the last lap was a dramatic and big win for me. We had an awesome truck there all day as we were strong in practice and qualifying as well as there at the end of the race."

Kluever, No. 50 Ford Preview: Indianapolis 08-01-2005 10:20 am
"I think this will be a great race for us.  We're taking the same truck that ran really well at Memphis two weeks ago.  We came back from two laps down to finish 10th at Memphis, so imagine what we could have done if we hadn't pitted under green and lost those two laps." -Todd Kluever

Craven Makes First Truck Series Start at Indianapolis 08-01-2005 9:51 am
Craven Makes First Truck Series Start at Indianapolis "IRP is a tough little track. I haven't raced there since 1994, but I'm sure it has not changed too much. I've run three races there in a Busch car and finished in the top 10 twice. I've always enjoyed racing there and it's a great race for the fans. We're taking chassis 27 which is a truck we haven't raced yet this year. We had hoped to be able to take our Memphis truck to IRP as well, but that truck didn't fare too well at Memphis. -Ricky Craven (Ronda Greer Photo)
