Chaffin, No. 30 Toyota Recap: Dover 06-07-2005 4:40 pm
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Chad Chaffin had high hopes entering Dover this past week as he returned to the site of his first career series win.  But the misfortunes continued for the veteran racer as a front end failure led to a broken wheel on his No. 30 Toyota Tundra.  The result at the end of the day was a disappointing 23rd place finish in the running of the MBNA RacePoints 200 at the one-mile oval of the Dover International Speedway.

Momentum on Cook’s Side as He Takes Second Top-3 in a Row 06-07-2005 11:32 am
Momentum on Cook’s Side as He Takes Second Top-3 in a Row In a sport that is all about momentum both on and off the race track, Terry Cook has it all on his side leaving Dover International Speedway. Cook led the first 13 laps of the rain-delayed MBNA Race Points 200 after starting from the front row, and ran in the top-5 the majority of the day before coming home a “best in class” third behind NASCAR Nextel Cup Series regulars Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart. After finishing second in the last series race in Charlotte, Cook leaps from eleventh to eighth in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings. (Ronda Greer Photo)

Skinner Handles Loose Truck to Top Ten at Dover 06-07-2005 10:02 am
Skinner Handles Loose Truck to Top Ten at Dover This past weekend of NASCAR Camping World Truck Series racing was interrupted by Mother Nature on Friday, as  rain pounded the Dover, Del., area all day.  Luckily, the truck teams got all of their on-track race preparation completed on Thursday before the rain arrived, which gave Skinner and his No. 5 Toyota Tundra team just enough time to lock in a sixth-place starting position and to get in a good amount of practice before taking the green flag late Saturday afternoon. Renshaw Rebounds with Monster Performance at Dover 06-06-2005 11:24 pm
Renshaw Rebounds with Monster Performance at Dover When the green flag fell on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race in Charlotte two weeks ago, it dropped on a field of 36 trucks and drivers looking for victory in one of the biggest races of the season.  Unfortunately for Deborah Renshaw, she didn’t see the green flag fall from the driver’s seat.  A disappointing qualifying run left her and the No. 8 BHR2  Dodge on the sidelines while the race went off without her.  Never one to let hurdles stand in her way, Renshaw and her team went to work.  A strong test at Dover and some advice from NASCAR Nextel Cup Series star Kevin Harvick gave her a needed boost in confidence.  But a strong test doesn’t always equate to a strong race. Lester's Monster Finish Foiled at Dover 06-06-2005 6:15 pm
Lester's Monster Finish Foiled at Dover The rain at Dover International Speedway could not put out the fire that the No. 22 team had coming into the MBNA RacePoints 200.  Coming off a career-best finish at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Bill Lester and the entire No. 22 Levi Strauss Signature Brand Toyota Tundra had a truckload of momentum on their side.  The team knew a solid run at the Monster Mile would hopefully get them closer to the top-10 in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship points. MBNA Race Points 200 - Official Results 06-06-2005 11:56 am
Kyle Busch gets the Checkered Flag at Dover Kyle Busch picked up his second consecutive NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory in the MBNA Race Points 200 at Dover International Speedway on Saturday.

Busch picked up the lead on a restart with 19 laps remaining and led the rest of the way, holding off Tony Stewart through several late race cautions to pick up the victory. Terry Cook was the highest finishing Truck Series regular coming home third, holding off a resurgent Ron Hornaday who finished fourth.

Hornaday dominated the field all day long before dropping back to fifteenth after a loose wheel on a pit stop with 50 laps remaining. At times, Hornaday led by nearly five seconds before the troubles dropped him into the pack.

Kluever, No. 50 Ford Recap: Dover 06-06-2005 12:48 am
Most rookies learn something at every new track they compete on throughout the season. Todd Kluever learned in Dover that where you finish is not always a good indication of how you raced. The No. 50 World Financial Group Ford F-150 was capable of a top-10 finish, but an extra green-flag pit stop resulted in a 20th-place finish.

Park Parked Early at Dover 06-06-2005 12:46 am
A voracious appetite for racecars earned Dover International Raceway its nickname “The Monster Mile”. Unfortunately for the Orleans Racing team, Steve Park and the No. 62 Dodge served as the appetizer in Saturday's MBNA RacePoints 200.

Whitt, No. 38 Toyota Review: Dover 06-06-2005 12:43 am
Once Mother Nature decided to stop pacing the field, the Craftsman Truck Series’ MBNA Race Points 200 finally got underway on Saturday evening. The race was initially scheduled for Friday evening, then, once rained out, was rescheduled for Saturday morning. But, rain still fell on Saturday morning and caused the race to be moved to after Saturday’s Busch Series race later in the day.

Peters Impressive in Dover Debut NASCAR Newcomer Timothy Peters certainly didn’t act like a rookie in his first race at Dover International Raceway on Saturday afternoon. Peters qualified fourth for the MBNA NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race and ran in the top-ten all day, running as high as the second position late in the event before his tires faded and he settled for an impressive sixth place finish. “To come in here having never seen the place before and qualify in the top-five and finish sixth in only my fourth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race is a great feeling,” Peters said. Two out of the last three what might have beens for Ron Hornaday Jr. Busch, coming off his May 20 victory at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, withstood the charge of former NASCAR NEXTEL Cup champion Tony Stewart to win Saturday’s weather-delayed MBNA RacePoints 200 at Dover International Speedway. Reutimann Nails Top-5 Finish at Dover David Reutimann finished in fifth-place after leading 33 (149-181) laps with his No. 17 NTN Bearings Toyota Tundra in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series MBNA 200 at Dover International Speedway. “We made a call to win the race and if the elements would have fell another way we might have,” said Reutimann, who had the top finishing Tundra. “We just had old tires and the guys that had fresh tires that got by me were fast anyway. I’m just real proud of our guys. I’ve got to thank them, NTN and Toyota for sticking by me because we’ve had a rotten year. It’s only going to get better.” (High Sierra Photo)

Gaughan Pleased with Strong Run at Dover 06-05-2005 9:34 pm
Gaughan Pleased with Top-10 at Dover Energized by an eighth place finish at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Brendan Gaughan headed to Dover International Speedway determined to tame ‘The Monster Mile’. In fact, Gaughan was so confident going into the eighth race of the season that he decided to make a fashion statement as well and arrived trackside with his long, dark hair braided in cornrows. "You don't show up with hair like this and expect not to run well," Gaughan noted. And run well he definitely did. (High Sierra Photo)

NASCAR Race Notes: Dover 06-05-2005 9:18 pm
Matt Crafton is quietly giving longtime series owner Duke Thorson reason to smile. Crafton’s ninth-place finish in Thorson’s Menards Chevrolet was Crafton’s third top 10 of the season allowing the Tulare, Calif. native to maintain a seventh-place ranking in the championship standings – higher than many rivals with resources far greater than those of Thorsport Racing. Crafton will be after his 50th career top-10 finish at Texas Motor Speedway.

'The Monster' Lives Up to its Name for Craven 06-05-2005 4:00 pm
Dover International Speedway did not get the nickname “The Monster Mile” for no reason. Ricky Craven and the No. 99 Superchips Ford team fought the “Monster” all weekend, bringing home another Top-10 finish for their efforts in a backup truck.

Loose Wheel Hobbles Hamilton at Dover 06-05-2005 3:40 pm
Bobby Hamilton raced his way into the top 10 where he held tight for most of the MBNA Racepoints 200 at Dover International Raceway until his left rear tire wiggled loose and started vibrating. Hamilton was forced to pit under green flag conditions on the Monster Mile, but still managed to bring his TECH-NET Professional Auto Service/Law Enforcement Torch Run Dodge home in the 21st position.

Chevrolet Race Notes: Dover 06-04-2005 8:41 pm
“Randy Goss and everyone on this No. 47 Chevrolet Makita All Star truck did a great job. We had a big problem all weekend at Charlotte that held us up and this team is too good for that so I told them if they didn’t have anyone in it at Dover, I would like to come back and give it another ride. These guys did an awesome job putting it back together and bringing a good truck here. We had an awesome day today. We just couldn’t get the track position we needed at the end." - Tony Stewart, No. 47 Chevrolet

Ford Race Notes: Dover 06-04-2005 8:31 pm
“We had a great race last week in Charlotte and brought the same truck to Dover. I can’t say enough about the Power Stroke Diesel by Int’l race crew. They put a great race truck together and we made the right adjustments throughout the whole race to keep it up there. We ran in the top five all day and to come home with a third place finish, we’re pretty happy with that.” - Terry Cook, No. 10 Ford

Toyota Race Notes: Dover 06-04-2005 8:24 pm
“Kyle Busch and I raced together at Nemco for a little while, and he’s on ‘kill’ whenever he leaves pit road. He’s not racing for points -- and I don’t think he would have wrecked me – but I didn’t want to take any chances and mess around and let everone else catch me. And, then Tony (Stewart) went by too – and I guess I’m not the first guy that Stewart’s passed. We’ll take this and we’ve got a good truck to take to Texas next week, and we’ll see what we can get.” - David Reutimann, No. 17 Toyota

Dodge Race Notes: Dover 06-04-2005 8:12 pm
“It’s an awesome racetrack. You’re really on the wheel a lot. Qualifying and this sixth-place finish gives me a lot of confidence headed to Texas. This was my fourth truck race, and it felt great out there today. I’m really happy with it. The pit crew did an awesome job, and everybody on the team was great today. I was just glad to be behind the wheel of that truck. It was an awesome day for Bailey’s. I’d like to thank Bailey’s and Bobby Hamilton for giving me this opportunity. Hopefully we’ve got more top 10 finishes to come. We had a good truck on old tires, and we were just trying to keep track position. We’ll load it up and go to Texas and see what we can do down there.” - Timothy Peters, No. 4 Bailey's Dodge

Chevrolet Qualifying: Dover 06-03-2005 4:43 pm
“First of all I have to thank Ron Hornaday and his crew chief Wally (Rogers) for helping us. We trade notes, Ron Hornaday, Jack Sprague, Dennis Setzer and our Spears team are all part of the Chevrolet Team Silverado, we work close together.  Talking to Ron earlier helped us a little bit. I had the right truck to qualify; my Chevy Silverado was pretty awesome during qualifying.  It is quite an honor to be on the pole here at Dover.  I have been watching racing here for a long time. - David Starr, No. 75 Spears Manufacturing Silverado.

Rain Only Winner at Dover International 06-03-2005 4:41 pm
Rain at Dover The MBNA Race Points 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Dover International Speedway, originally scheduled for 4:45 P.M. Eastern this afternoon, has been postponed by rain. The race is now rescheduled for 9:00 A.M. Eastern on Saturday, now scheduled to be the opening act of a doubleheader. The NASCAR Busch Series is also scheduled to race at Dover on Saturday afternoon.  Clouds hovered overhead throughout yesterday’s practice and qualifying sessions, but the weather never took a turn for the worse. All on-track activities were completed yesterday without interruption, however the inclement weather moved in overnight and brought all activity at the track to halt.  All on-track activity set for Friday at Dover was canceled, including two NASCAR Nextel Cup Series practice sessions, NASCAR Busch Series qualifying, and NASCAR Nextel Cup Series qualifying. Toyota Qualifying: Dover 06-02-2005 6:43 pm
“We were a little bit ‘free’ on both our qualifying laps. But, all in all it wasn’t a bad qualifying effort -- we’re starting in the top-10. I think this is one of those places where track-position is really important -- and being up front at the start will be an advanatge. I think we have a decent spot to start the race -- and Robert (Huffman) and I are starting close to each other.” - David Reutimann, No. 17 Darrell Waltrip Racing Toyota

Ford Qualifying: Dover 06-02-2005 6:33 pm
“It’s a long day tomorrow.  Me and Cowboy (Kevin Starland., crew chief) just talked about it and we’ve got a chance to work on the truck because we know now were we can get better.  We changed a dozen things on the Ford F-150 after the two hours of practice, so the setup that we qualified with we really didn’t practice.  We know what’s wrong with it.  It was a lot better and a lot faster than we practiced and they know what to do with it in final adjustments to make it a good race piece and then we’ve got most of the day to work on it.  Any time you qualify ant you go faster than you practiced it’s a step in the right direction, so I’m looking at it as a positive.” - Terry Cook, No. 10 ppc Racing Ford

Starr Bright in Dover Qualifying 06-02-2005 6:13 pm
Starr Bright in Dover Qualifying David Starr went out 34th of the 35 drivers that took qualifying runs for the MBNA Race Points 200, and the late draw was to his benefit as he knocked Terry Cook off the top spot to claim his first pole of the 2005 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season at Dover International Speedway. Starr’s lap of 22.846 seconds/157.577 miles per hour smashed the previous record set last season by Carl Edwards by almost seven-tenths of a second. Cook, who was fastest in the final pre-qualifying practice, backed up his runner-up finish at Charlotte with an outside front row starting position for Dover. Cook’s lap of 22.862 seconds/157.467 miles per hour was just sixteen-thousands of a second off Starr’s record pace. (Nate Mecha/High Sierra Photo)

Setzer, No. 46 Chevrolet Preview: Dover "Dover is a very fast, high-banked track that really isn't like any other track that we race on. You can unload off the truck fast, but by the time the race starts the track has changed tremendously. We have our final practice at one-thirty pm on Thursday and qualify at five-o'clock pm. Then we don't race until almost five on Friday. In between, all the Cup and Busch cars will practice and qualify and will lay down a lot of rubber and the track will get a lot tighter. So it is so hard to get your truck set up just right for the race." (High Sierra Photo)

Peters Gets the Wheel of the No. 4 Dodge at the Dover Thoughts on Dover: “It is a tough race track and it has a great reputation but right now my biggest plus is that my confidence is built up from the run we had at Charlotte last week. We had a great truck at Charlotte and it helped prove to me that we could run upfront in the top five and be competitive on a high speed racetrack. That was a big step for me and this team. I was disappointed in our finish; we got crashed about two thirds of the way through, but at least we got crashed while we were running up front as opposed to running back in the pack. Defending Dover Champ Chad Chaffin Looking for a Little Luck 06-01-2005 9:12 am
Defending Dover Champ Chad Chaffin Looking for a Little Luck There’s no sure way to turn around a season hamstrung by bad luck, but returning to the scene of a driver’s first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory certainly can’t hurt. That’s what Chad Chaffin (No. 30 Germain/Arnold Toyota) looks forward to this week – competing on Friday at Dover International Speedway, where the Tennessee native captured the 2004 race. Dover’s Monster Mile is a challenge to every series competitor. To Chaffin, however, it’s a friendly ribbon of concrete. “Dover is appropriately named the Monster Mile,” he said. “But I like to race on challenging tracks and I think that frame of mind has helped me with some solid runs at Dover.” (Nate Mecha/High Sierra Photo)

Stewart, No. 47 Chevy Preview: Dover 05-31-2005 8:16 pm
Stewart has unfinished business after a crowd-pleasing run at Charlotte from his back-of-the-field starting position to the top-10 ended with mechanical problems on lap 65 of the scheduled 134-lap race. The Indiana native was forced to start from the back after an engine change negated his 19th place qualifying effort.  The mechanical issue surfaced during practice and qualifying and, despite the best efforts of the Randy Goss-led team, they resurfaced during the race sidelining Stewart.

“This will be my first Craftsman Truck Series race at Dover, but I feel pretty good about going there,” explains Todd Bodine.  “Tony (Furr, crew chief) and I have plenty of experience at Dover, which will be beneficial even though we’ve never run a truck there.  I think when we get to the track, between Tony and myself, we’ll have a pretty good starting point, as far as the springs and shocks we want to run.  And, we’ll rely on the TRD engineers -- who ran here a year ago -- to help us, too.”

I am obviously looking forward to returning to the track as the defending race winner and being a contender again this year with our Toyota Tundra." -- Chad Chaffin on Dover

The second-year driver from El Cajon, CA, Whitt and the #38 Toyota team have been closer than ever to breaking through in the win column, only misfortune has prevented them from scoring back-to-back top ten finishes. First at Mansfield three weeks ago, Whitt was running in second place before a right front tire shredded just 20 laps from the finish. Two weeks ago in Charlotte, Whitt was running sixth with five laps remaining when a right rear tire erupted and sent Whitt hard into the third turn wall, again spoiling his efforts. Dover Hosts Craftsman Truck Series Milestone - 250th Race 05-30-2005 5:22 pm
In February 1994, four grizzled veterans of off-road racing in the Baja and Nevada deserts — Dick Landfield, Jimmy Smith, Jim Venable and Frank “Scoop” Vessels — sat in a Daytona Beach office waiting to see NASCAR President Bill France. In the parking lot sat their creation, a prototype racing truck. Their goal: Convince France to add a NASCAR sanction for truck racing.
