Cook Claims First Top-5 of 2005 at Lowe's 05-25-2005 4:34 pm
Cook Claims First Top-5 of 2005 at Lowe's Terry Cook made a hard charge from the back of the pack to record a second-place finish in the Quaker Steak and Lube 200 last Friday night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.  Cook started 29th in the 36-truck field and used pit strategy and a fast truck to gain track position during a mid-race caution period.  Once among the leaders, Cook managed to stay there the remainder of the race, leading several laps and challenging eventual winner Kyle Busch for the lead on a two-lap dash to the checkered flag. It was Cook’s first top-5 finish since a third-place effort last year at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. (Streeter Lecka/Geddy Images for NASCAR Photo)

Whitt Denied Career Best Finish at Charlotte 05-24-2005 5:56 pm
Whitt Denied Career Best Finish at Charlotte After a heart-breaking end to an excellent run at Mansfield, Brandon Whitt and the McMillin Homes/Cure Autism Now Toyota team headed to Charlotte looking to put the bad luck of Mansfield behind them and return to doing the one thing they have done all season… run fast. After qualifying 23rd on Thursday evening Whitt had his work cut out for him on Friday night. But, the Jamie Jones-led crew was confident heading into the race and rightfully so. Whitt may have started 23rd but he didn’t stay there long, quickly maneuvering his way into the top 15. (High Sierra Photo)

Lester, No.22 Toyota Revire: Charlotte Bill Lester and the No.22 Checkers Toyota Tundra team had a career night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.  Lester posted his best finish in his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series career, which also propelled him into the top 15 in points.  After three consecutive top-20 runs, the team is gaining momentum entering one of the longest stretches of the Craftsman Truck Series season. The No. 22 Checkers Toyota Tundra team tested the newly-resurfaced speedway two weeks ago in preparation for Friday night’s event.  The team had a strong test and looked forward to returning to the location of Lester’s first career pole position. Skinner, No. 5 Toyota Review: Charlotte 05-24-2005 12:24 am
Skinner, No. 5 Toyota Review: Charlotte It was two nights of impressive performances by all three Bill Davis Racing teammates at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, which included Mike Skinner grabbing the pole Thursday night with his No. 5 Toyota Tundra and leading the second-most laps of the 136-lap Friday night competition.  The pole sitter was well on his way to claiming his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory for Bill Davis Racing, when contact with another truck sent him into the wall and ended his run prematurely on lap 115 with a 26th-place finish. Quaker Steak and Lube 250 - Official Results 05-23-2005 2:28 pm
Busch Holds Off Veterans to Become Series' Youngest Winner Kyle Busch, following in the footsteps of older brother and NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series champion Kurt Busch, earned his victory in Friday’s night’s Quaker Steak & Lube 200 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Busch, who celebrated his 20th birthday 18 days earlier, chased down the leaders following a mid-race fuel stop that left his ditech.com Chevrolet 156h on the field.

He took the lead for good on the 115th lap when Bud Pole starter Mike Skinner tangled with the lapped truck of Brad Keselowski between turns three and four of the 1.5-mile speedway.

Crafton Takes Second Top-10 of 2005 at Charlotte 05-23-2005 1:13 pm
Crafton Takes Second Top-10 of 2005 at Charlotte “I’m happy to bring this thing home in one piece,” Crafton said after the race. “There was a lot of stuff going on out there and a lot of guys that you don’t expect to get wrecked ended up in the garage with crashed trucks. It would have been easy to get caught up in one of those deals but we got lucky and avoided all the trouble.” While Crafton was happy to avoid all of the carnage on a night that saw 10 caution flags, but he wasn’t totally satisfied with the ninth-place finish. Montgomery has Best Finish of Season at Charlotte 05-23-2005 11:09 am
Montgomery has Best Finish of Season at Charlotte Chase Montgomery charged through the field from his 31st starting position to finish 13th in Friday night’s Quaker Steak and Lube 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. The top 15 finish was Montgomery’s best finish of the year, but more importantly his strong performance moved him up two crucial spots in the NCTS points race. “I feel like we just got the monkey off our back,” Montgomery said. “Now hopefully we can breathe a little easier these next few weeks." NASCAR Race Review: Charlotte 05-23-2005 9:22 am
Unlike many transplanted NASCAR competitors, Bill Lester doesn’t call the Charlotte area home. But Lester, a Californian currently residing in Atlanta, would be pleased to be called a Tarheel. Lester has a habit of showing his best stuff at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, which on Friday night hosted at least the second-highest profile race of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season. Lester, who won the inaugural Bud Pole for the Quaker Steak & Lube 200, battled for the lead late in the event before settling for a solid, sixth-place finish aboard the No. 22 Checkers Toyota out of the Bill Davis Racing stable.

Kyle Busch Puts Ballew Chevy in Victory Lane at Charlotte 05-22-2005 4:37 am
Kyle Busch became the youngest driver in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series history to take a trip to victory lane. Driving the No. 15 ditech.com Silverado fielded by Billy Ballew Motorsports, the 20 year-old Las Vegas, NV native led 77 of the 136-lap race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, race seven of the 25-race 2005 NCTS schedule.

Park Moves Up in Point Standings with Strong Finish at Charlotte 05-22-2005 4:24 am
Steve Park and the Orleans Racing team are finally getting the results they deserve and the proof was in a strong fifth place finish in the Quaker Steak & Lube 200 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Park qualified 20th for the fourth night race of the season but that wasn’t at all indicative of how fast the No. 62 Dodge would be under race conditions. After the green flag dropped, Park made steady progress through the field and by Lap 76 he was running as high as second.

Top-10 at Lowe's Gets Gaughan Going in the Right Direction 05-22-2005 4:21 am
Brendan Gaughan and the Jasper Engines & Transmissions team started to gather momentum at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway with a season best 15th place performance and they rode that wave all the way to Lowe's Motor Speedway where they upped the ante with an eighth-place finish.

Toyota Race Notes: Charlotte 05-21-2005 12:07 am
“I’m really happy for the Checkers Toyota. We were good from the word go. The test here two weeks ago really paid off. We had a good qualifying run and then when the green flag came out -- it was good. We fell back a little bit -- my truck was tight -- but the guys made the right adjustments. It was good after that. I’m really mad at myself because I tried to take down the fence in Turn 4. But, we made a decision whether to come in or stay out -- and we decided to stay out. It was the right call. It’s a good run for the 22 team. I’m really proud. It was pretty much a good night. We had to make some slight adjustments. Once we did that it was pretty much just click off laps and try to stay away from the mess. We came through unscathed, so I think our luck is changing. We definitely have the momentum going and everyone at Bill Davis Racing is pumped up. I’m excited.” - Bill Lester

Ford Race Notes: Charlotte 05-21-2005 12:02 am
“The guys told me at Fontana, the Roush-Yates guys, that when we get to Charlotte that we’re going to have something for them, and we sure did. This is the first brand new truck and everything we’ve had until this date is stuff we built from last year. This is our first brand new truck, so I just can’t wait to get into the next truck in the next race.” - Terry Cook

Raybestos Rookie Notes: Charlotte 05-20-2005 11:58 pm
“I learned a lot tonight. I definitely know that I can overdrive this thing in the corner as far as not knowing what it’s going to do. But after I went to school for a little bit and kind of understood the deal with these things I figured it out just a little bit. I was trying to get some experience and respect from these guys. I almost made it to lap 134 but not quite .” - Timothy Peters

Chevrolet Race Notes: Charlotte 05-20-2005 11:54 pm
“Our Chevrolet Z-71 Silverado was pretty bad off tonight. –We just didn’t have a good night. We salvaged a 7th place finish out of it out of attrition right there. We missed our set up pretty bad tonight. We had a brand new shiny truck out there but unfortunately it didn’t drive the way we wanted it to all night. We made some really good adjustments and pit stops, which bought us some positions. This team keeps pulling it off – we don’t start well in the race but make a couple pit stops and get right out there – I’m awful proud of them. We just need to just get a little better in the starts of the race.“ - Dennis Setzer

Dodge Race Notes: Charlotte 05-20-2005 11:48 pm
“Terry (Cook) is pretty hungry, and he’s got an awful big mirror in that thing. We had a really good truck. The Mopar Dodge came from way back and I’m proud of the guys the way they worked here. Coming out of here (first) in the points, that’s big-picture racing. It’s always fun to win here. Third is not what we’re looking for, but it’s pretty decent. The truck was good at the end. We made some adjustments on it. In the middle we weren’t very good. It’s always fun here, especially when you’ve got three grooves. Any time you’re in the front in the points is fun. We’re running good, and we’re getting better and better. We’ve just got to keep working hard and keep the luck on our side.” - Ted Musgrave

Busch Wins at Charlotte 05-20-2005 11:08 pm
Busch Wins at Charlotte Kyle Busch became the youngest NASCAR Camping World Truck Series winner when he drove to victory in the Quaker Steak and Lube 200 at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway on Friday night. Busch held off a hard charge by Terry Cook and Ted Musgrave in a two-lap dash to the checkered on a night punctuated by numerous cautions for incidents that eliminated several top contenders. Busch took over the lead when Mike Skinner crashed with Brad Keselowski in turn four within sight of the checkered flag. Skinner had dominated the event in the late stages after starting from the pole, but was relegated to a 26th-place finish at the end. (TruckSeries.com Photo)

Chevrolet Qualifying Notes: Charlotte 05-20-2005 10:58 am
KYLE BUSCH: “I was wishing we could have gotten the pole because I think that would have made us the youngest driver in history to win a pole in all three of NASCAR’s major touring series. It was a good lap for us, it is a shame we couldn’t get the pole but the truck is awesome. This Chevrolet Silverado has been really really good all day. Ritchie (Wauters, crew chief) and the guys have done a tremendous job with it. We have made a lot of changes on it but everything seems to be coming together. We qualified third, the thing stuck really good.

Ford Qualifying Notes: Charlotte 05-19-2005 8:57 pm
RICK CRAWFORD: “I got everything we had out of it, but it was a really good ride.   I was expecting to maybe bring a surprise souvenir, it was little twitchy out there, but we’ve got powerful Roush/Yates engines under the hood.   These guys bounced back from that first hour of almost disaster and really went to work hard.  Kevin Starland heads up this team and we’re Built Ford Tough.  This second hour really worked for the Circle Bar Truck Corral Ford.  This is home.  This is the next best thing from Atlanta and Daytona.  We really want to win here and I hope the pole holds out, but I know it’s an early draw.”

Toyota Qualifying Notes: Charlotte 05-19-2005 8:47 pm
MIKE SKINNER: “We knew if we could ever hold our Tundra wide-open all the way around this place it would run a lot faster than we ran earlier today.  Jeff Hensley (crew chief) and the guys at Bill Davis Racing put it back together like we rolled off the truck – and changed a few things.  We felt like our Atlanta ‘package’ would be pretty good here.  I just hope it races good.  The thing turned a pretty good lap.  We’re a Charlotte -- so the guys that go late always go faster.  But, that’s all we had and we’ll have to see if that lap will hold up or not.”

Raybestos Rookie Quotes: Todd Kluever and Regan Smith 05-19-2005 8:22 pm
Raybestos Rookie Todd Kluever posted his second top-five finish of the 2005 season last week at Mansfield.  He is the only first-year driver to score a top-five finish this season and holds a 24-point lead over Sean Murphy (71-47) in the Raybestos Rookie standings entering Friday night’s race. “It’s been an up-and-down season for us.  We had a miserable Daytona and a good California." Raybestos Rookie Regan Smith took time after practice Thursday afternoon to discuss his new opportunity with Glynn Motorsports. "So far I’m real happy, real pleased with the team.  Lance [Hooper, crew chief] and I have good communication."

Skinner Speeds to Second Pole of Season at Lowe’s 05-19-2005 8:22 pm
Skinner Speeds to Second Pole of Season at Lowe’s Mike Skinner smashed the track record on the new Lowe’s Motor Speedway pavement to claim his second pole of the 2005 season for the Quaker Steak and Lube 200 on Thursday evening. Skinner’s lap of 29.500 seconds is 183.051 miles per hour around the 1.5-mile quad-oval, and the speed makes the Charlotte track the second fastest on the series schedule. With Skinner’s 19th career pole position in his hip pocket, it knocked Rick Crawford to the outside of the front row. Crawford, the pole winner in Atlanta earlier in the season, ran a quick lap of 29.654 seconds/182.100 miles per hour and will line up outside the front row in Friday night’s race.

Chevrolet Practice 2 Notes: Charlotte 05-19-2005 8:11 pm
RON HORNADAY: "We still have some work to do to get the GM Goodwrench truck how we want it. I am not sure how well we will qualify but we will have this thing ready to race. Wally and the guys are not worried." DAVID STARR: "Man our Silverado's been all over the place today in practice. It seems we're chasing the racetrack with it being so hot outside. The surface keeps changing. We go from tight to loose - then loose to tight -turns 1 & 2 we are one way -turns 3 & 4 another way - then they switch after we adjust for it."

Chevrolet Practice Notes: Charlotte 05-19-2005 5:24 pm
JACK SPRAGUE: “Our Chevy Trucks Silverado is pretty darn good. We chased the handling a little bit in the first practice but got a handle on it pretty quick. During the second practice we threw a few things at it to see what it would do before we made a qualifying run. I am really happy with what we ended up with." DENNIS SETZER: “Our Chevrolet Silverado is much better than when we started the first practice. We chased the handling going back and forth from tight to loose then loose to tight. But Eric (Phillips, crew chief) and the guys kept making adjustments and we were able to bring it back to a pretty neutral spot we are happy with."

Cook, No. 10 Ford Preview: Charlotte 05-19-2005 4:11 pm

Keselowski, No. 29 Ford Preview: Charlotte 05-19-2005 10:35 am
Brad Keselowski and the K Automotive team have been on the move in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points for the past three events.  Following his 13th place finish at the short track of Mansfield Motorsports Speedway this past week, Keselowski moved into the 20th position giving him that extra boost of momentum as the team makes the transition from short track to speedway to compete at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte.

Gaughan, No. 77 Dodge Preview: Charlotte 05-19-2005 10:25 am
It’s a Craftsman Truck race --- its just go like hell. Craftsman Truck races aren’t like Nextel Cup races, they’re not 500 mile or 600 mile races, it’s a 200 or 250 mile race. You want to get to the front and stay there as long as possible. Yeah there are times you come from the back. I mean Lonestar, the truck we have here, we proved it at Texas Motor Speedway. We went from the back quite a few times. But with the luck of the Jasper Engines team of late I’d like to see clear air all day. That wouldn’t be bad.

Chaffin, No. 30 Toyota Preview: Charlotte 05-19-2005 8:57 am
Chad is coming off his worst finish of the season with a 32nd place finish on Sunday at the Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. “To say that we need a strong run after our last race would be an understatement. We have had a roller coaster season so far and we need to get rid of these peaks and valleys. I cannot think of a better place to have a good run at than Lowe’s.

Renshaw, No. 8 Dodge Preview, Charlotte 05-19-2005 8:47 am
Deborah is coming off a disappointing 34th place finish on Sunday at the Mansfield Motorsports Speedway. “We have had a rough time the last three races and I need to get a good run in this week- and I can’t think of a better place to do that than right in Charlotte. We went and tested there a few weeks ago and even though the test session was cut short due to rain I learned a lot during those few hours.

Huffman Enters Lowe's with Winning Attitude 05-18-2005 4:46 pm
Four of Robert Huffman’s 42 NASCAR Goody’s Dash Series victories occurred at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Huffman’s looking to add to his collection of wins as he drives the No. 12 Toyota Tundra in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Quaker Steak and Lube 200 Friday night.

Reutimann Determined to Capitalize at Lowe's 05-18-2005 4:41 pm
David Reutimann returns to Lowe’s Motor Speedway in his No. 17 NTN Bearings Toyota determined to leave with a top-five finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Quaker Steak and Lube 200 Friday evening.

Crawford Rides Momemtum into Charlotte 05-18-2005 4:02 pm
Rick Crawford and the Circle Bar Truck Corral Racing team head to Lowe's Motor Speedway with momentum on their side.  In the past two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races, Crawford has a fifth and sixth place finish respectively.

Miller Backed by Construction Industry at Charlotte 05-18-2005 3:36 pm
Veteran driver Butch Miller will enter the Quaker Steak & Lube 200 at Lowes Motor Speedway on May 20th.  Miller will pilot the #08 ASILIMITED/TSG Industries/ SECO Architectural Chevrolet Silverado.  The #08 SS Racing/Green Light alliance is coming off a solid top ten finish at Mansfield Speedway last weekend.  “We have some great momentum going into this race and hope to have another great run at Lowes.  I’m excited to be racing and always love driving this track!”  Said Miller.

Craven on Charlotte, "Find Speed Quickly" 05-18-2005 3:25 pm
Ricky Craven, driver of the No. 99 Ford F-150, is looking to add his name to the list of 13 drivers that have won in all three of NASCAR's major touring series.  Craven, who has five top-10 finishes in six races this year including a second-place finish at Martinsville, is currently third in the point standings heading into Friday night's Quaker Steak and Lube 200 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. What will be the major difference between piloting a truck and car around the mile-and-a-half track? "I think that the biggest difference will be having to find speed quickly."

Musgrave Looks for Success at Lowe's Motor Speedway 05-18-2005 3:22 pm
Ted Musgrave and the No. 1 Ultra Motorsports team may have hit a stumbling block in last weekend's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event, but with the roll the team's been on, last week was just a bump in the road. When the green flag drops on the Quaker Steak & Lube 200 at Lowe's Motor Speedway this Friday night, Musgrave is set to take the No. 1 Mopar Dodge Ram straight to the front of the field. "We knew going into a short track race like Mansfield that anything could happen," Musgrave said. "In races like those, you simply want to just survive until the finish."

Hattori, No. 9 Toyota Preview: Charlotte 05-18-2005 3:16 pm
“We had a good test at Lowe’s Motor Speedway but unfortunately it rained so we only had a few laps of test time.  I went to watch the Cup practice and it seemed that the middle groove looks to be the fastest.  The track is very similar to Texas Motor Speedway where I’ve lead there in the IRL a few times.  Almost won the race but on our last stop our air jack didn’t work and we ended up finishing sixth.”

NASCAR Preview: Charlotte 05-18-2005 2:02 pm
Todd Bodine (No. 66 Fiddle Back Racing Toyota) is skeptical that the grinding of the race surface has significantly altered the personality of Lowe’s Motor Speedway. “It’s definitely different, but it’s the same old Lowe’s; just a lot faster and a lot smoother,” said Bodine, seventh in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings entering Friday’s Quaker Steak & Lube 200 presented by Click It or Ticket at the Charlotte-area facility.

Jimmy Kite Looks To Lowe’s To Finish What He Started 05-18-2005 10:22 am
Jimmy Kite led his first laps in an IndyCar as a rookie at Lowe’s Motor Speedway (Lowe’s) in 1997. On that hand the Charlotte-area track holds a special place in the heart of the Stockbridge, Georgia-resident. On the other hand, a punctured tire ended that race, his second career IndyCar start, after he held the top-spot for 11 laps. That left Kite with some business he hopes to finish on May 20th when he return to Lowe’s for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event. The Quaker Steak & Lube 200 presented by Click It or Ticket will be Kite’s third NASCAR Craftsman Truck weekend in the Dave Malcolmson-owned No. 06 MRD Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado.

Skinner, No. 5 Toyota Preview: Charlotte 05-18-2005 10:18 am
“I am looking forward to going to Lowe’s Motor Speedway.  We are going to have the opportunity to run the NASCAR Nextel Cup car there for the History Channel in the Coca-Cola 600 next week and are going to run our Toyota Tundra there on Friday.  We have run really well on the 1.5-mile tracks with our Tundra, and it is an opportunity to get some laps, which will hopefully help us in the Cup race."

Benson No. 23 Toyota Preview: Charlotte 05-18-2005 10:13 am
“Charlotte is always fun to race at because it is my home track.  It is good to be home and be able to sleep in my own bed.  The track has changed a little bit.  They have ground the surface, which has caused the groove to move a little bit.  I have not tested there, but I watched the Busch Series test, and the track looks fast."

Lester, No. 22 Toyota Preview: Charlotte 05-18-2005 10:11 am
“I am really looking forward to going to Lowe’s Motor Speedway because we tested there and did extremely well.  The ‘Humpy Bump’ is gone, and it is going to be two-wide racing, which I am really looking forward to.  When we went there to test, we were extremely good especially on long runs, which is something that really encourages me."

Chevrolet Team Silverado Head “Home” for Charlotte Race 05-18-2005 9:57 am
Home field advantage is an important element in any professional sport. This week Chevrolet Team Silverado will be at “Home” for the Quaker Steak and Lube 200 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway just outside the Charlotte, NC city limits. All four Chevrolet Team Silverado teams are headquartered within a few miles of the famed 1.5-mile superspeedway. Winning at race at Charlotte gives a team and driver a chance to showcase their talent and skills in front of a huge crowd with local ties as well as the worldwide television stage.

Setzer, No. 46 Chevrolet Preview: Charlotte 05-18-2005 9:20 am
"Last year this was a great win for us.  It pretty much propelled us into a championship battle to the end of the season.  It’s always great for a team to win here in Charlotte because you have hometown bragging rights for the next year.  That win was the first for Morgan-Dollar Motorsports at a superspeedway.  Our program at the bigger tracks continued to get better and better and I feel like we have just as good of a shot to win as we did last year."

Sprague, No. 16 Chevrolet Preview: Charlotte 05-18-2005 9:09 am
“The track is smooth and has a lot of grip.  But the old bump gave it character, now there’s no bump. It’s got huge grip, wide open like Texas, Atlanta and California; I like a little slip in it. Now it’s got a lot of grip, and you can run wide open. If the bottom grip stays as it is right now it will be faster than the second lane. I think there’s a lot of grip up top also.

Montgomery Glad to be A Part of All Star Weekend 05-18-2005 9:05 am
“Lowe’s is a really fast track and Charlotte is such a great town. I love going there. I think the man to beat during the race this weekend will be the one who can stay wide open and take care of his tires. It is the same story every week with the new Goodyear tire.  They have a great tire with a lot of grip, and it is a matter of taking care of them. The key is balancing speed with comfort when setting up the truck."

“The first time out on the racetrack it was just like, wow! But the more you run on it the more you like it. Going that fast is a lot of fun; there is a lot of history at Charlotte. They say it is hard to figure out but once you figure it out you are on your game there. That is what I want to do is be one of the ones that figures it out the quickest.
