Bikes to Bristol and Back
Bikes to Bristol and Back A motorcycle ride for NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers, crew, family and friends!  Join NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers, crew members, family and friends for two (2) - Day-long rides to Bristol and back, both days featuring tours of the scenic mountain roads of North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and the Blue Ridge Parkway on August 24th and August 26th, 2004.

Event Schedule: Bristol Motor Speedway

No Formula to Bristol According to Bobby Hamilton
“There isn’t a formula that makes you win at short tracks. So there isn’t a reason why we’ve had 10 different short-track winners, but that gives the fans another thing to pull for in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. It’s hard to win at a short track and being there at the end usually pays off for drivers."

Reutimann Lined Up To Tackle Bristol
With Darrell Waltrip Motorsports garnering a second-place finish fielding the No. 17 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series entry in 1997 at Bristol Motor Speedway, David Reutimann wants to pick up where they left off in hopes of joining the 44 drivers listed as first time winners since the divisions inception in 1995.

Chaffin Content to Keep on Truckin'
Strategy, Not Here: “There is not much strategy at Bristol. We don't have happy hour there because it is a one-day show, so we'll have two hours of practice and that's it. If you aren't fast off the trailer, there's not a lot of chance you're going to get it fixed. It's not a very long race, because at 16 seconds per lap, 200 laps go by pretty quick. The biggest thing for me is to make sure I am mentally prepared. Things happen so fast there you don't have a lot of time to think about it, you have to rely on instinct.”

Montgomery Picks Up Sponsor for Bristol
Montgomery Picks Up Sponsor for Bristol BHR2 and driver Chase Montgomery announce the signing of Herbalife International, Inc. as the primary sponsor for the August 25th NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at the Bristol Motor Speedway.  The Herbalife colors and logo will adorn the #8 DODGE truck of the Mt. Juliet, TN native for the O’Reilly 200 under the lights at the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile”.

Sutton Set for Strong Start in Season’s Sixteenth Race

Dennis Setzer Fast Facts: Bristol
“Bristol is a fun track. I have always run well there, but we need to get some wins. Bristol would be a great place for us to get back on track.   This is a very fast track and things happen quickly. You have to keep your momentum up at all times, so you have to handle good, have a good motor and drive hard. You just can’t give up anything to anyone there.”

Kvapil Looking for Victorious Repeat at Bristol
"Bristol’s a very unique race track. It’s high banked and one of the smallest tracks we go to, so it’s super, super fast. It’s a one groove track. The bottom groove is where everyone wants to be since it’s the fastest way around. I had a lot of confidence going into the race last year and was just excited to finally have the chance to run there. It’s one of those tracks that I’d always wanted to race – it’s cool and has such a neat atmosphere. I just really like the race track and have had a lot of fun there. Bristol’s definitely a challenging place, because things can happen there so quickly. "

Skinner Ready for the Bristol Bull Ring
"Bristol is one of my favorite race tracks. I have always run well at Bristol. I have been on the pole there in the Truck Series and in the Busch Series, and I was on the outside of the front row a couple of times in the Cup Series. Bristol is a place where a driver can just get up on the wheel and drive hard, and I like that because that is the way I enjoy driving. It’s a racer’s race track. The Truck Series races are a lot of fun at Bristol, because our series is aggressive driving from the start to the wave of the checkered flag at every track. The race at Bristol won’t be any different. The track is just a lot of fun, and I cannot wait to get there."

Jack Sprague Fast Facts: Bristol
“Bristol is just a great place to race. Luck is the major equalizer there. You can have the best truck on the track but if you don’t have luck with you to stay out of trouble, you won’t be there at the end. I think it is a track where experience gives a driver a little edge. You know how quickly things can happen out there and stay heads-ups from the drop of the green. Even then, you can be leading and then in the garage in a blink of an eye. It is really a fast track, faster than you would think for the size. If you have the right setup under you, you get great exit speed off two and four and really fly down the short straights."

Next Stop for Silverado All-Stars; Robby Gordon at Bristol
Next Stop for Silverado All-Stars; Robby Gordon at Bristol Robby Gordon will return to NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCTS) competition on August 25, 2004 at Bristol Motor Speedway in the No. 47 Acxiom Morgan Dollar Motorsports Silverado with a special paint scheme showcasing George Thorogood and the 30-year anniversary of his Bad to the Bone tour. Gordon’s three previous NCTS starts were North Wilkesboro and Las Vegas in 1996 and October 1997 at California Speedway.

Musgrave Looks for Bristol Redemption
Ted Musgrave, driver of the No. 1 Mopar Dodge Ram, is ready to attack one of NASCAR's demanding tracks - Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway - on Wednesday.

HT Motorsports Names Randy LaJoie to Drive at Bristol
Randy LaJoie will be behind the wheel of the #59 Harris Trucking Dodge for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Bristol on Wednesday, August 25th.  The August event at Bristol Motor Speedway has always been a fan favorite. The sights and sounds of the stadium-like race track create an atmosphere of excitement that pushes the limits on competitor and machine.

News And Notes From The Raybestos® Rookie Contenders
Robert Huffman was the Raybestos® Rookie of the Race in the Toyota Tundra 200 at Nashville Superspeedway. Huffman finished ninth, his third top-10 finish of the 2004 season. He took Raybestos® Rookie of the Race honors for the fourth time this season.

Brandon Whitt Preview: Bristol
Brandon Whitt and the #38 Werner Ladder/Cure Autism Now Ford F-150 team head to the .533-mile, high-banked Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway this week for a rare Wednesday night race, 16th race of the 2004 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season.

Toyota Truck Series Preview: Bristol
This will be the seventh visit to Bristol Motor Speedway for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCTS). The NCTS visited Bristol from 1995 to 1999, before returning to the Tennessee short track last year. Seven Toyotas are scheduled to compete in the O’Reilly 200 at Bristol.

Carl Edwards Bristol Fast Facts
Carl Edwards on Bristol:
"I could almost taste victory last year. We had such a good truck through the first half of the race, and then it got really loose after the last pit stop. We never imagined there wouldn't be another caution so we never got the chance to make any adjustments to tighten it up.

Jon Wood Bristol Fast Facts
Jon Wood on Bristol:
"It's tough to hold your breath for 200 laps, but that is pretty much what you do at Bristol. We made it out of there with an eighth-place finish last year and I'd sure take that again this year. This race is kind of a toss-up since anything can happen. There is a lot of racing going on in a very small space. We've raced at IRP and Martinsville already this year, but they are different because they are flat. Bristol has so much more banking that it really makes it a lot faster. There isn't much time or space to react when something happens in front of you.

GM Racing/Chevy Silverado Bristol Race Notes

Both Harvick and Crafton to run GM Goodwrench brand at Bristol
The longest running sponsorship in NASCAR history, GM Goodwrench, is looking to add another page to their history books Wednesday, August 25, under the lights for the running of the O'Reilly 200 presented by Valvoline Maxlife at Bristol Motor Speedway. The "World's Fastest Half-Mile" and NASCAR fans alike, will witness this when the GM Goodwrench brand will be donning the hood of Matt Crafton, driver of the No. 6 Chevrolet Silverado as well as NEXTEL Cup star and team owner, Kevin Harvick's #92 Chevrolet Silverado.

Bristol Experience a Plus for Huffman and Fellow Rookies
Bristol Experience a Plus for Huffman and Fellow Rookies The television camera doesn’t do justice to the steep 36-degree banked concrete turns of Bristol Motor Speedway. Few are prepared for the enormity of what they see. Imagine, then, what passes through the mind of a rookie competitor gazing upon the .533-mile track for the very first time. Robert Huffman (No. 12 Toyota Tundra Toyota) recalls his first visit to the unique east Tennessee track.  “I remember walking through the gate and across the track and thinking, ‘This is the most intimidating place I’ve ever been to,’” said Huffman, a former NASCAR Dash Series champion who made his Bristol debut in that series in 1995.  “I drove around the place for 100 laps and I’m beat. I remember thinking after the race, ‘How do the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup guys do this for 500 laps?’ I was worn out – and pretty sore for days after that.” (High Sierra Photo)

NASCAR Notes: Bristol
NEXTEL Cup Series drivers enter O’Reilly 200 … Three NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series veterans have entered the O’Reilly 200 presented by Valvoline MaxLife, including Kevin Harvick (No. 92 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet), who lost the race lead to tire failure with slightly more than a lap remaining in last year’s event. Robby Gordon (No. 47 ACXIOM Chevrolet) will make his first series appearance since 1997 as will Ken Schrader (No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet).

Steve Park Bristol Notes
Park will test Aug. 23, his 37th birthday, at Winchester Speedway in Indiana to prepare for the O’Reilly 200. Winchester is a half-mile, high-banked oval.
This will be Park’s 14th start at Bristol Motor Speedway. He has four starts in the NASCAR Busch Series and 10 starts in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series.

White Prepared for High-Bank Challenge at Bristol
Few race tracks carry the type of reputation as the half-mile, high-banked Bristol Motor Speedway. The track is known for very high speeds and action that happens faster than the driver or the spotter can react. Wednesday night’s O’Reilly 200 will mark the first visit to the Bristol Motor Speedway for the No. 13 Sta-Max Chevrolet Silverado and rookie driver, Paul White. White, who has been working to gain experience in his first five NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events spent a day last week testing for the race at Bristol by turning laps around the half-mile track of Toledo Speedway in Ohio.

Hines Set for Bristol Debut
Tracy Hines may be attempting to make his first-ever start at Bristol Motor Speedway, but he comes into the 200-lap race on the 36-degree banks with more experience on high-banked half-miles than most of the field. The driver of ThorSport Racing’s No. 88 Menards Chevrolet is a veteran of USAC open wheel racing, meaning Hines has dozens of starts at two of the most demanding tracks in the country: Salem Speedway with its 35 degree banking and Winchester Speedway with its 33 degree banks.

Starr Aims to do the Bristol Stomp
Just like the popular 1961 song says, David Starr and the Spears Motorsports crew plan to be sharp as a pistol when they do the Bristol Stomp at Round 16 of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Wednesday, August 25 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Huffman Looking for Good Finish in Bristol
Robert Huffman’s success in NASCAR’s Dash Series at Bristol Motor Speedway includes a win, and a second place finish in 2003.  He is hoping to carry his experience from Dash over to the NCTS Wednesday night in Bristol.

Sieg Eyes Up Bristol Challenge
With 36-degree banking looming and 16-second laps the norm, Shane Sieg looks forward to his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at Bristol Motor Speedway. The driver of the Green Light Racing No. 07 Auto-Air Colors/Lucas Oil Products Chevrolet sees the race as a chance to grab his second top-10 finish of the season and gain points in both the NCTS championship standings and the race for the 2004 NCTS Raybestos Rookie of the Year Award.

Deborah Renshaw Preview: Bristol
What are your thoughts in general on the Bristol Motor Speedway? Bristol is an amazing place to race at and I have looked forward to racing there as long as I can remember. And now my dream is becoming a reality. It's a racer's race track where experience definitely will pay off for the veterans, but makes it exciting for the rookies like me who will have to learn the feel of this track during the limited practice time.

Schrader Gets First NCTS Bud Pole at Bristol
Ken Schrader at pole board after setting track record Ken Schrader, driver of the No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet, earned his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Bud Pole Award on Wednesday at Bristol Motor Speedway.  Schrader's fast lap of 15.118 seconds translated to 126.922 miles per hour on the 0.533-mile high-banked concrete oval.  Schrader bettered his best career series start, which came in the first ever NCTS race in February 1995 at Phoenix when he lined up outside row one. Edwards Storms From Back To Take Bristol Gold
Edwards Storms From Back To Take Bristol Gold Carl Edwards recovered from a spin on his second qualifying lap and starting the race at the back of the pack and charged through the field to pick up his third win of the 2004 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season in the O'Reilly 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Wednesday.  Edwards, who finished 10th in his NASCAR Nextel Cup Series debut last week at Michigan, charged into the lead with 20 laps to go and held of a hungry Shane Hmiel for the victory. Solid Finish for Setzer Goes Up in Smoke
Dennis Setzer and the #46 Morgan-Dollar Motorsports race team had yet another good finish snatched out of their hands in the final laps.  Setzer, who had a solid top-five run going was involved in a spin with less than five laps to go while battling for third position.  It was the fourth race in a row where Setzer looked to have a decent finish in hand only to see it evaporate in the final laps.

Top-Five at Bristol Slips Away from Crawford
In typical Bristol fashion, sparks were flying as the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series invaded the Bristol Motor Speedway for an old fashioned under the lights short track race. Rick Crawford, driver of the #14 Circle Bar Motel & RV Park Ford F-150, was looking to the Wednesday night showdown as an opportunity to reclaim a spot at the front of the field.

Late-Race Bristol Charge Brings Reutimann Home 11th
After running as high as third in the O’Reilly 200 presented by Valvoline Maxlife at Bristol Motor Speedway, David Reutimann finished 11th in the No. 17 NTN Bearings Toyota Tundra Wednesday night. “We made some changes to free up the truck early on and we were able to run in the Top-5,” said Reutimann. “We got behind near the end of the race, but rooted our way through the field with fresher tires. Bristol’s a tough place to pass, but we were able to pass a few guys. We were trying to make up as much ground as we could. We were trying our best not to make any evasive moves.”

Houston Finishes 19th at Bristol
Poor track position, a cut tire and an overall lack of good fortune beset Andy Houston and his Team ASE/CARQUEST Dodge at the O'Reilly 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Wednesday Night. Houston brought home his Ultra Motorsports entry home in the 19th position after battling a series of setbacks early in the event.

Whitt has Early Problem, Long Night at Bristol
An early problem with another truck led to a crash and a long night for Brandon Whitt and the #38 Werner Ladder/Cure Autism Now Ford F-150 team Wednesday night at Bristol, Tenn. The team finished 31st in the O’Reilly 300 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the .533-mile high-banked oval, finally retiring after completing 86 of the event’s 200 laps.

Hamilton Extends Point Lead After Wild Night in Bristol
Characteristic to Bristol Motor Speedway races, Square D driver Bobby Hamilton barely scraped by several close calls and even pushed one truck sideways down the front straightaway in the O’Reilly 200 and still managed to finish the 200-lap event in the 12th position. Hamilton extended the gap in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points race by 99 over second place Dennis Setzer.

Robby Gordon Brings All Star Chevy Home 4th

Rookie Survives For Top 20 Finish
In the world of motorsports there are many superstitions about what brings you bad luck – and one of them is having a green race car or truck. However, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series rookie Chase Montgomery enjoyed having his truck decorated in green as he piloted his #8 Herbalife DODGE to a 20th place finish on Wednesday night in the running of the O’Reilly 200 at the Bristol Motor Speedway.

Five Toyota Teams In Top-15 at Bristol
Although veteran Mike Skinner dominated Wednesday night's O'Reilly 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway, he was not among the five Toyota Tundra drivers to record a top-15 finish in the 200-lap test at the Tennessee short track.

From Zero to Hero, Edwards Soars at Bristol
From Zero to Hero, Edwards Soars at Bristol Don’t tell Carl Edwards that the handicap of a tail-end start at Bristol Motor Speedway is insurmountable. Or anywhere else on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, thank you. Edwards, who spun his Super Chips Ford on his second qualifying lap, forfeited his No. 5 starting spot for Wednesday night’s race after crew chief Kevin “Cowboy” Starland elected to make major adjustments in violation of the no-final-practice format. No sweat as the Columbia, Mo. competitor methodically worked his way to the front, passing Mike Skinner’s Toyota for the lead on the 180th lap around the .533-mile high-banked concrete speedway. Edwards wound up edging Shane Hmiel by .306-second – about two lengths – in a green-white-checker finish that extended the 200-lap distance by six laps. (High Sierra Photo)

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Review: Bristol
By winning the Bud Pole, Ken Schrader became just the fourth competitor to win a race and a pole on all three of NASCAR’s national touring series. The other members of the elite group are Spencer, Greg Biffle and Terry Labonte.  Schrader’s failure to win from the pole increases Craftsman’s bonus to $16,000 at Richmond.

Hines 21st at Bristol
Tracy Hines finished 21st in Wednesday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway after trouble on a mid-race pit stop brought him back down pit road as the field came to the green for a restart.  The unscheduled stop pinned the No. 88 Menards Chevrolet two laps down and forced him to play catch-up the rest of the night.

Sieg Finishes 26th in Bristol Rumble
Shane Sieg started deep in the 36-truck starting field in Wednesday night’s 200-lap NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway and fought to a 26th-place finish.  Sieg struggled with track position all evening and a slide down the front stretch to bring the Green light Racing No. 07 Auto-Air Colors/Lucas Oil Products Chevrolet home in one piece.

Bad Luck Continues for Sprague at Bristol
Jack Sprague and the Chevy Trucks Silverado team can’t seem to shake the cloud of bad luck that has shrouded the team this season. The driver and team that boast a total of 5 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championships, an extraordinarily impressive record considering the series is only in its 10th season, were struck once again by mechanical failure while running fourth at Bristol Motor Speedway.  With just 24 laps remaining in the 200-lap O’Reilly 200 presented by Valvoline Maxlife, Sprague came over the radio and said, “We just blew up again.”

Crafton a Career-Best Third at “The World’s Fastest Half-Mile"
In Wednesday nights running of the O’Reilly 200 presented by Valvoline Maxlife, Team GM Goodwrench continued to prove their championship contending presence by battling an ill-handling truck and putting themselves in position to be there at the end to benefit from a late race accident. Matt Crafton, driver of the No. 6 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet Silverado, crossed the finish line in the third position. This is Crafton’s career-best finish and puts him back to fourth in the points race, 175 markers back from leader Bobby Hamilton.

Skinner’s Dominating Run at Bristol Ends with Disappointing Finish

Mike Skinner dominated the O’Reilly 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway leading 126 of 200 laps, but a combination of old tires and a late race altercation with Dennis Setzer relegated him to a 23rd place finish.  “My Tundra ran really, really good, but we probably should have pitted again and put on new tires,” said Skinner. “I really felt like we had the truck to beat, but we just asked for a little too much from the tires.”
