Forget the Blues, it's Time Memphis Pay its Dues
Memphis is a town known best for its savory BBQ and soulful blues. But when NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competitor Andy Houston visits this steamy southern city later this week, he'll be seeking racing redemption rather than culinary enjoyment or musical enlightenment .

Steve Park's Crew Chief Promoted to Fulltime
Charlie Wilson has been named crew chief of the No. 62 Orleans Dodge. Wilson served as the interim crew chief at Charlotte, Dover and Texas before being promoted to the position on a permanent basis June 15. He previously served as crew chief for Orleans Racing’s NASCAR Grand National West Series Dodge driven by Scott Lynch. Wilson, of Bakersfield, Calif., led the West team to a championship in 2003. That same year, he served as crew chief for Lynch’s only Craftsman Truck Series starts, Las Vegas and Homestead. Lynch finished 12th in both events. The team has not named a replacement for Wilson on the West team.

NASCAR Trucks Bring Race No. 225 to the Bluff City
NASCAR and its Craftsman Truck Series commemorated their 200th race last year in Memphis. And as the O’Reilly 200 readies to take its place again on Memphis’s paved oval this week, the circuit will roll out race No. 225 for Mid-South race fans.

Experience is Key to Success at Memphis
Ted Musgrave, Memphis 2003

Ted Musgrave does a burnout after winning Memphis in 2003.

Memphis Motorsports Park has proven time and again that the .75-mile short track in Millington, Tenn., rewards the most elite drivers in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Four of six previous winners of Saturday's O'Reilly 200 - Ron Hornaday Jr., Greg Biffle, Jack Sprague (No. 16 Chevy Trucks Chevrolet) and Travis Kvapil (No. 24 Line-X Toyota) have won a combined seven series championships. The other two - Dennis Setzer (No. 46 Chevrolet Silverado Chevrolet) and defending winner Ted Musgrave (No. 1 Mopar Dodge) - list runnerup points finishes on their resumes. (High Sierra Photo)

Setzer, No. 46 Chevrolet Preview: MEMPHIS
Memphis can be difficult for drivers who are not familiar with the track.  It takes a lot of braking getting into the corners, but then your truck must rotate just right in the middle of the corner to get the forward bite coming off.  That can be a hard set up for a driver to relay to his crew chief.

Hamilton Makes Chicken Salad
“It’s not too often that you take a race like we had in Texas and have the finish we ended up with. I get disappointed when my truck runs around in 10th because I know our team is capable of so much more than that. We made chicken salad out of chicken scratch last weekend and that is how you capitalize on bad races. "

GM/Silverado Driver Preview: MEMPHIS
Is Memphis one of the toughest tracks? “It’s not a tough track in my opinion. We go there with high hopes that we will run well. Our team has been fortunate over the past three years to have some good finishes, so if we don't finish in the top five, its going to be a great disappointment to us. We hope that everyone else thinks its a tough track, but this is the site of Morgan-Dollar Motorsports first win and now that the forty-six team is having some success at some of the other venues, we look to continue to have a good run at Memphis.” - Dennis Setzer, No. 46 Chevrolet

Skinner Hopes First Times a Charm in Memphis
Skinner is more than comfortable on inaugural tracks. Since his career began in the truck series in 1995, he’s accumulated five wins, 10 top-five’s and 11 top-10’s on short tracks that he’s never seen before in the truck series. “I’d never seen the race at Colorado when I raced there, and I won,” he said. “I never ran Phoenix, and I won there as well. I’ve also won twice in Japan…another new track. When I go to places for the first time, I seem to adapt to them really well, so I’m not really apprehensive about that at all. In fact, I think that will play in our favor.”

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Notes: MEMPHIS
ON THE RIGHT TRACK  Trio looks to extend ‘hot streak’ in Memphis … Three competitors – Setzer, Kvapil and Musgrave – hope to extend their streaks of top-five finishes at Memphis Motorsports Park. Setzer’s string is the longest, five races beginning in 1999, while Kvapil and Musgrave are working on two straight appearances among the top five. Crawford, on the other hand, has failed to complete just three laps – 2.25 of 1,200 miles – at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Sprague Shakes, Rattles, and Rolls to Memphis Pole
Jack Sprague at Bud Pole Board Jack Sprague went out early and withstood all challengers to take the Bud Pole Award during qualifying for tomorrow's O'Reilly 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Memphis Motorsports Park. Sprague's fast lap of 22.705 translated into 118.917 miles per hour around the 0.75-mile tri-oval. The only real challenge Sprague had to face during the session was from last year's race winner Ted Musgrave, who went out just after Sprague's attempt. Musgrave's lap was just 0.022 seconds slower than Sprague's pole-winning run. (Michelle Mecha/High Sierra Photo)

Veterans Sprague and Musgrave Dominate Memphis Qualifying
Jack Sprague and Ted Musgrave will start Saturday’s O’Reilly 200 race from the front row as veterans continued to show the way in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition at Memphis Motorsports Park.  Three-time series champion Sprague, winner of the 2000 event at Memphis, drove his Chevy Trucks Chevrolet Silverado around the .75-mile oval at an average speed of 118.917 mph. Friday’s pole was the 22nd of Sprague’s career – he leads the series in the category – and second at the track.

Veteran Hamilton Holds Off Hmiel for O'Reilly 200 Win
Veteran Hamilton Holds Off Hmiel for O'Reilly 200 Win Bobby Hamilton held off a surprising Shane Hmiel to win the O'Reilly Auto Parts 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Memphis Motorsports Park on Saturday. Hamilton took over the lead after a stirring late race battle between two of the many caution flags late in the race, and stretched the lead over the final four laps to claim the win. Hard Charging Bobby Hamilton Beats the Memphis Blues
Bobby Hamilton took the lead with high-groove pass with eight laps remaining to win Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series O’Reilly 200 race at Memphis Motorsports Park.  Hamilton victimized Shane Hmiel, a first-time series starter at the .75-mile track, who saw a half-second lead erased by caution on the 187th of 200 laps by Rick Crawford’s Turn 3 spin.  The 23-year-old Hmiel couldn’t block Hamilton’s late charge off Turn 4, which came a lap after the restart and a split-second ahead of the race’s ninth and final yellow flag. Hmiel, driving a Chevrolet, wound up .423 second – about two truck lengths - off the bumper of the winner’s Dodge.

It simply was not Andy Houston's Day. The end result was a less than satisfying 20th place finish.

Setzer Sizzles with Sixth Straight Top-Five Finish in Memphis
Memphis Motorsports Park brings back fond memories of one of the team’s earliest successes in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Memphis was the site of MDM’s first win in the series in 2001. Since then, Dennis and his Silverado crew have been very consistent at the .75-mile track, but a repeat trip to victory lane has eluded them. Setzer had not finished outside the top-five in five straight races dating back to 1999.

The One That Got Away
Every fisherman has a story about the "Big One" that somehow got away. For NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Shane Hmiel Saturday's O'Reilly 200 was securely on the hook at Memphis Motorsports Park and he was just laps away from his first-ever major NASCAR touring series win. But a cruel twist of fate allowed victory to slip away in the waning moments. A miscue during a late race radio transmission denied Hmiel and his Billy Ballew Motorsports teammates a trip to Victory Lane.

Hamilton Rock & Rolls to Memphis Gold
Hamilton Rock & Rolls to Memphis Gold Hamilton scored his second win this season in the Square D Dodge with a gutsy move on Shane Hmiel by passing on the outside at Memphis Motorsports Park with only eight laps left in the O’Reilly 200. The win moved Hamilton up one position in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points race to third. “Son (talking of Bobby Hamilton Jr., who was racing in Kentucky), this one is for you,” Hamilton said with a tearful eye and mention of Father’s Day after the race was over. “We are on our way to do a big appearance this week for Square D, so the timing is right for that too. It was a big day for us, and for Dodge. We are trying to win this championship. We just want to win so much and we try so hard that sometimes I think we mess ourselves up. This was a sweet victory.” (High Sierra Photo)

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Race Notes: MEMPHIS
At best, Shane Hmiel and Billy Ballew Motorsports were long shot contenders when the 2004 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season began.  No longer.  Hmiel, who muscled his No. 15 Spondivits/Alpharetta Self Storage Chevrolet into the lead for the second consecutive week, lost Saturday’s O’Reilly 200 by an eyelash. Late caution erased a solid lead and Bobby Hamilton – a quick-thinking veteran – took advantage of Hmiel’s hesitation to pass the 23-year-old for the win at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Musgrave Jumps Three Spots In Point Standings
Ted Musgrave grabbed another solid-as-concrete finish behind the wheel of his No. 1 Mopar Dodge Ram at Memphis Motorsports Park on Saturday, finishing in the top-three for the second straight race. Musgrave, the defending race winner at Memphis, finished third after starting the race on the outside pole, and he led more laps than anyone else. Recently the Ultra Motorsports team made some changes to the Mopar team and they seem to be working together well.
